Ever since I read the story and did a 12 page paper on it for college back in 2014, this story has arguably been my favorite one by Shakespeare

I've thought for a long time Iago's hate runs much deeper than the offense of being passed over. Even the cuckholding charge is suspect and it seems Iago doesn't believe it I think Iago hated Othello naturally, the whole time he was associated with him and once he was passed over he had no reason left to redirect it. He may have turned on Othello anyway, even if he had been promoted because it was he end of the line. And the rumors of Othello cuckholding him is likely a reflection of how sycophantic to Othello Iago had appeared throughout his career.
