A Level Chemistry Revision "The Structure and Properties of Alkanes"

You can find all my A Level Chemistry videos fully indexed at www.freesciencelessons.co.uk/...
In this video, we look at the structure and properties of alkanes. First we look at the structure of alkanes. We explore the type of bonding in alkane molecules and why alkanes are non-polar. We then explore the properties of alkanes including their insolubility in water, their reactivity and how the boiling point depend on the length of the carbon chain.
This video is aimed at the UK A Level Chemistry specifications. Students studying International A Level Chemistry will need to check their specification.

please could you do videos on A level OCR biology and the chapter on genetics. I cannot find any videos where I clearly understand everything the way I understand your videos. You are amazing and extremely helpful so thank you.

Heya! Love your videos! For the purpose of AQA exams, can "London forces" and "Van Der Waals forces" be used interchangeably in answers? Or are they distinct things with distinct applications?

Hi freesciencelessons, thank you so much for your videos they are a massive help! Just wondering, I am a bit confused about the London Forces, are these the same as Van Der Waals forces? Just with a different name?

  • @Freesciencelessons

Hi. I'm glad that my videos are helping you. Van Der Waals forces is quite a broad terms including several types of intermolecular forces, including London Forces. London Forces are specifically induced dipole-dipole interactions. I don't use the term Van Der Waals forces as it's not specific enough.
