A Level Chemistry Revision "The Structure and Properties of Alkanes"
You can find all my A Level Chemistry videos fully indexed at www.freesciencelessons.co.uk/...
In this video, we look at the structure and properties of alkanes. First we look at the structure of alkanes. We explore the type of bonding in alkane molecules and why alkanes are non-polar. We then explore the properties of alkanes including their insolubility in water, their reactivity and how the boiling point depend on the length of the carbon chain.
This video is aimed at the UK A Level Chemistry specifications. Students studying International A Level Chemistry will need to check their specification.

You're an indisputable legend, the holy grail of revision, your lessons inform, inspire and guide countless students. Thank you!
omg this is amazing!!!! you were and will forever be a part of my gcse-childhood memories. you're absolutely the best, fantastic editing skills I love it!!!!
Hi FreeScienceLessons. I’m commenting on here to say that you structure your videos so well and you make topics so much easier and better to understand . Your videos are a great revision material and many people should appreciate this channel
WOAH.. HES ANIMATED
Thank you for this video! It helps me grasp Organic Chemistry concepts better.
you sir are a legend thank you! when will you roughly be done with year one content?
This legend still uploads to this day , what a 🐐
I miss whe you did these with a person and not the animated one. (Which isn't that long ago, but that's beside the point)

@@OGMandala Dr Donelly would prefer not to do that anymore as it's very tiring and this is easier for him and more efficient, but I miss it too.
please could you do videos on A level OCR biology and the chapter on genetics. I cannot find any videos where I clearly understand everything the way I understand your videos. You are amazing and extremely helpful so thank you.
loving the vids 😍😍

Hey thanks for your help
Heya! Love your videos! For the purpose of AQA exams, can "London forces" and "Van Der Waals forces" be used interchangeably in answers? Or are they distinct things with distinct applications?
Hi freesciencelessons, thank you so much for your videos they are a massive help! Just wondering, I am a bit confused about the London Forces, are these the same as Van Der Waals forces? Just with a different name?
@Freesciencelessons

Hi. I'm glad that my videos are helping you. Van Der Waals forces is quite a broad terms including several types of intermolecular forces, including London Forces. London Forces are specifically induced dipole-dipole interactions. I don't use the term Van Der Waals forces as it's not specific enough.

@@Freesciencelessons cool thank you very much, I understand now!
are these lessons applicable to the CAIE curriculum?
Sir, can u plz make videos on A-level physics plz? Like motions of heavenly bodies and equations
@yujirohanma203

Dr Donelly doesn't do A level physics, however he has said he might do it after finishing everything on A level biology and chemistry.
Hello sir does current increase with voltage?
@yujirohanma203

Yes, they're directly proportional.
Hello sir what exam boards do you do for A level biology and chemistry
@Freesciencelessons

I try to cover AQA, OCR and Edexcel. If something is very specific to one exam board, then I'll flag that up in the title.

Hi. I'm currently finishing the organic chemistry topic and then I'll start the immunity topic and cover those points.
I prefer this milky white background instead of the usual blue background in the video, because my eyes get more tired quickly with the blue background
