A Leading Light | The Mysterious Garden by Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh
Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh was one of the key figures in the emergence of the 'Glasgow Style' in the 1890s. In her work, The Mysterious Garden, 1911 we see an ethereal figure, adrift in slumber. Margaret's otherworldly aesthetic was shared with her sister Frances, and their respective husbands Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Herbert MacNair, earning them the nickname the 'Spook School' in the British Press.
In this series devoted to Scottish Art, we look at paintings by some of the nation's finest artists. We examine them to uncover what makes each work so special and reveal some of the stories behind them.
This series is part of the Scottish National Gallery Project. The project will completely transform the way Scottish art is shown at the Gallery. A new suite of exhibition spaces will be created, which will be directly accessible from the adjoining Princes Street Gardens, and provide a light-filled, new home for the our unrivalled collection of Scottish art, raising its profile for visitors from all over the world.

Fantastic thanks for producing such wonderful segments Keep sending!
wonderful video, thank you!
LOVE IT! You've brought out work back to life, so to speak :) I always laugh when I see that old photo of us, Frances impersonating a cross between a puppeteer & an aircraft LOL! "Spook School" was an appropriate nickname; My 3rd Granddaughter b.1926/7 to our Daughter Kathleen Frances Mackintosh (b.1900, W.Ham) was the FBI Consultant Psychic-to-be, Noreen Renier. In 1955, having lived & died 1935-53 as a boy/man I was reborn as Evelyn Renier whose family came to Scotland from France. Sadly I died young in Aberdeen in 1961 Age 6 but was reborn 1963; Where? Quelle Coincidence! In Aberdeen. There's nothing ficticious about Serial Reincarnation. I'm still trying to recognise/realise who my sister is today because I remember where I hid all her Art c.1902. She might like it back : )
This is amazingly informative!
