"A las Barricadas" ("To the Barricades") was one of the most popular songs of the Spanish anarchists during the Spanish Civil War. "A las Barricadas" is sung to the tune of the famous Polish revolutionary song "Whirlwinds of Danger" ("Warszawianka"), composed by Józef Pławiński.

The lyrics written by Valeriano Orobón Fernández in 1936 were partly based on the original Polish lyrics by Wacław Święcicki. "The Confederation" referred to in the final stanza is the anarcho-syndicalist CNT (Spanish: Confederación Nacional del Trabajo - "National Confederation of Labor"), which at the time was the largest labour union, the main anarchist organisation in Spain, and from 1936 to 1939 were a major force opposing Francisco Franco's military coup against the Spanish Republic.
Its Russian version with altered lyrics, the "Varshavianka" (Варшавянка), once experienced considerable popularity in the USSR. Gleb Krzhizhanovsky is usually reported as the author of the Russian version and the moment of writing the text is thought to be 1897, when Krzhizhanovsky was imprisoned by Tsarist forces. The song was also popular among American and British labor organizers, particularly after a version was sung by the famed American vocalist Paul Robeson.

Im Spanish, from Catalonia, thank you for publishing this. This is very necessary in modern times where we are at the border of a new civil war or a military coup. Elections gonna be made early and fascists probably will rule together with the reactionaries. I hope someday we get our freedom and become a Republic again.
