I saw this band when Duane and Barry were alive in Boone, N.C. at the Appalachian State University Gymnasium in 1971. They played for over 3 hours until some moron turned the stadium lights on. I believe that was the best concert I have had the opportunity to attend. I just turned 73 and I thank God I was alive to hear such great music from what is probably the best band ever.

Just a suggestion in case you don’t have it Marshall Tucker, Where we all belong, double album, one studio, one live. On the live side 24 hours at a time and Everyday (I have the blues) shouldn’t be missed if you like long jams like the Allman Bros. I was a farm kid, around 14 and installed a cassette player on our tractor. My cousin made me a bunch of tapes of Allmans, Marshall Trucker, Grateful Dead, Commander Cody, Flying Burrito Bros. Really helped pass the time on long days out in the field. I lost count how many times the player ate the tapes and I would stop and patiently rewind them back into the case with a pencil. I still have copies (now streaming) that I still enjoy today 50 ish years later. Good music never goes out of style.

Saw them in sept. 1971 at stony brook college on long island NY. With Wet Wille. There was an early and late show - had tics for early show and after show friend and I went in the bathroom and hid with feet up in a stall - all they did was open door and look in to see if empty before letting in late show people - they did not see us and after late show people started coming into bathroom we just walked out and saw the late show for free - both shows were wonderfull - a couple of Duane's last shows as he died not too long after the stony brook shows. Very lucky to see Duane live!

I have this on vinyl. It's actually my Dad's. Purchased new in July or August of 1971. Yep. Pink label, first pressing. I just found it last week. I had no idea he even had one. He knew, though lol. And never mentioned it. I ran in there and showed him, as if he had never seen it before 🤣 I'll treasure it and every one of his other, original Allman Brothers Band albums until I'm gone. He gave me Howard Duane Allman's middle name as my middle name, as well. That's a fact I couldn't be prouder of 😁. You can tell who my Dad's favorite guitar player is, huh? His vinyl collection has been in, storage for almost 20 years so I was worried they were all warped. Nope. Not a single warped record among the 87 that he owns. Now I'm looking for a good, vintage turntable to pick up so, I can set up his old Yamaha CR-620 stereo like it used to be back then and jam! He had a Yamaha YP211? turntable, too. But it seems to have disappeared in the last 20 years. They go for 3-500+ today. 😖 Makes me really wish it were still around. It was a dang good turntable.

Blackberry Smoke, The Marcus King Band, Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown, Gary Clarke Jr to name but a few. There's still great music being made.. And btw.. The same way you talk about rap and modern music is the same way old folks in the 50' talked about Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard. Don't get me wrong, i'm 52 years old and i'm not into rap nor modern music at all but to dismiss it as trash is kinda stupid and short sighted. But if you choose to live in the past, be my guest..

They created a sound nobody was doing at the time. I know because I was there listening to everything I can get my hands on. When I got to see the original Allman Brothers live opening for Johnny Winter in 1971, remember it being a WTF moment. They opened with Statesboro blues and Duane's slide just hooked you from the first note. Other people were playing slide at the time but Duane figured out how to put jet engines on his. 😂 It wasn't too long into the concert that you realize that this band is tight as f***. Fifty-plus years later and this album sounds just as fresh when it came out in the summer of 71.

When they finished, half the Fillmore East of 2nd Ave, NYC , was empty and we figured they All went out smoking, drinking...when the Bear starts singing the joint is still half empty... After a couple of songs, very repetitious at that, we understood why those people never came back: within a few minutes we also left Canned Heat behind with the theater two third empty ! That is so awesome! I turned my parents onto Van Morrison when I was 14. Dad was a musician and had a band in WW2. He would have been 108 last month.
the original - the greatest - today at 71 - turned this up and danced!

That's awesome - I never knew they played the varsity gym. I went to App and saw some great shows there in the early 90's, including Phish and George Clinton/P-Funk, but Allmans with Duane and Berry would have been amazing.
Shine on brother Betts. I can only imagine hearing this at gods table everyday for eternity. Id die a rich man.
Saw them at the San Diego sports arena in 1971, even named my daughter " Sweet Melissa" outstanding musicians!
Arguably the best live album ever released.

Absolutely true...Ther's blues, country, rithm 'n blues, rock, hard rock, progressive rock, a bit o jazz...Every musician is at the top, and...here is the best rock live performance (maybe equalizing some Zappa's concerts that are really a slap in the face..insane..musicanti like Zappa, Terra Bozzio at drums...Fine stuff!!) the Allman is one of my favorite goups, here fusion was always so natural, simply and extremly complicate at the same time...Think never gonna rise a similar group..
I was sad when Duane died, I wept when Gregg died. I have loved this band since their Beginings...and before.
If I could go back in time, this concert would on my travel itinerary. Keeps aging perfectly.
This album is pure magic and Duane is an absolute pioneer astronaut of slide. RIP SkyDog.

I miss ithem, and this era of music so much .
My street filled with kids jamming to this album with my Klipsch speakers on the porch.
As a young boy listening to this music, I was Hooked, Totally amazing

But if you choose to live in the past, be my guest..

oh yeah i was at this concert.duane was incredible.

One of the things he gave me was a chord chart for Statesboro Blues, so I went and found the vinyl used at a flea market. It became one of my favs and I spent many hours jamming along with it in my garage.
