A Kid with 30% of a Brain (And How to Be Her Friend)
Lily was born with 30% of her brain and was not expected to survive. She is now 9 years old and surprising everyone with her social personality. Asa, Lily's brother, has even taught her how to hug. Lily's parents want others to know that she has feelings and emotions, and she deserves to live.

This is the first time a dad has been so honest about his feelings as a parent of a special needs child. Most parents in their interviews talk about the joy only. This dad told us about the agony too. Blessings to him and his family❤

So true. It’s challenging and it’s not all rainbows so it’s important to see the truth. Of course the children are a blessing. But it’s not easy. Parenting any child isn’t easy or so 100% great.

As a special needs parent I’ve often felt shut down or treated like I’m complaining when I try to talk about the bad points, but then other times people are invasive or they try to get you to open up about it, but after being shut down so often about it, it doesn’t feel safe any more. Our families do really go through hell on top of the beauty.

If you died TODAY, where would you be spending eternity? Have all your sins been forgiven or are you still hoping that you're a good enough person to earn a spot in heaven. The reality is that no one can earn a spot, our sin disqualifies us. But the God news is that Jesus paid for our qualification by dying on our behalf taking the punishment that we deserved. JESUS said, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son; that WHOEVER believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." - John 3:16 Nothing is more important than your eternal destination. Please, don't say, "When I get older I'll get right with God' or 'I'll get serious with Jesus one day when I'm ready.' Don't wait any longer, today is the day of salvation. Get right with God today, for tomorrow very well might be too late. We invite you to REPENT and accept that Jesus Christ is Lord of your life by praying this simple prayer out loud right now... 'Heavenly Father, I turn away from my old life and repent for my sins. I believe that Jesus came for me, that Jesus died for me and that Jesus rose again for me so that I can be forgiven and receive eternal life. I believe in my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life from this day. Through Him and in His Name, receive the gift of eternal life. I ask you to fill me with the Holy Spirit and lead me for the rest of my life. In Jesus name - Amen. 🎉❤

Shout out to the Dad for being honest, caring for a special needs child let alone adult is incredibly isolating and difficult, it think it can be more frustrating when no one acknowledges the struggles

Beautifully said by the dad. “She’s like a sun and we’re like planets that orbit her. But a sun also gives off a lot of warmth.” ☀️ Warmed my heart too. And this sweet brother of hers. My heart melted when I saw him hugging and kissing her. ☺️♥️
I was blown away by how deeply and sincerely Lily's brother Asa loves and cares about his sister and how absolutely unafraid he is to hug her and say how much he loves hugging her. Then I saw how their dad is a resilient yet emotionally open and honest father who's unashamed to speak about both the hardships and the immense love, and I saw where it comes from. Those kids have awesome parents, amazing role-models, and I can't think of a better family to take care of and love someone with Lily's needs and gifts. Beautiful.
I noticed that Lily became quiet when her dad started weeping. She seemed to understand that he was feeling pain, and her empathetic reaction touched my heart. To Mom and Dad, please consider playing classical music for Lily as frequently as you can. There are studies that have shown listening to classical music helps the brain make connections.

The dad here is the kind of parent that is amazing in the world!! He doesn’t see disability as tragic because, in truth, ANYONE can become disabled (whether terminally or not) at ANY point!!
Ultrasound tech here. I cannot believe this wasn’t caught on her earlier ultrasounds😔 The anatomy scan that’s done between 18-20 weeks specifically looks at the brain and its’ structures. I’m just shocked. Such a sweet family. Kudos to Dad for sharing in such a vulnerable way.
The father's honesty is striking 🌹
No dry eyes here. The honesty and emotion with which Lily’s father shared his experience has to be one of the most moving moments in the channel’s history. Lily is a happy child surrounded by so much love. I’m certain it’s the reason she has thrived. Her mother and her handsome brother are filled with devotion for her. When her father compared her to the sun around which the family’s lives revolve, the tears came. Lily is warmth, light and purpose. Thank you Chris for sharing her story with us. 🌞

I’m a nurse that works with disabled children. Watching SBSK is such an amazing eye opener for people who haven’t met or experienced people who are impacted by this. It always makes me happy when people acknowledge everyone as human beings- just because you can’t talk or walk, doesn’t mean you still can’t communicate. We should be especially respecting those who care for others, it’s important to be honest when times are tough ❤

This is so true, and especially with Lily’s unique seeming presentation of her condition, it seems like the best way for this family to interact with her has been through experience with her and through the benefit of the doubt/assuming the best and most of her at all times. And her brain is literally forming connections no one would expect from a medical standpoint? That sounds like the outcome of serious love and care to me. ❤
How still and quiet she became when her dad was describing how tough it can get and he got emotional…. Definitely picked up on the change in her dads feelings. She even reached her arm out as if to try and comfort him. Also watching the relationship between her and her brother was honestly one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen between two people before 😍 heartwarming for sure

I love this family. The father expressed true emotion. I love that he’s not afraid to express these feelings. He brought up great analogies. If you don’t have a disabled person in your life I feel they are missing out on a love that’s like no other. Real unconditional love. They also make you feel incredibly grateful for what we have. Lily’s brother is adorable! So loving and caring! Beautiful parent. Lily is so strong and it amazes me how the brain can retrain itself. I’m so happy Lily can see. We are incredibly made! All my love to you all. Congratulations on beautiful family. 💝🥰

The bravery to go again with 25% of having two disabled kids is staggering. As a parent who decided 1 and done because of the fear and knowing the overwhelm of just 1, my mind boggles. I'm in awe of you all

bravery? I hope they didn't know at that time.
Tbh as an adult, this may be viewed as awful to some. But I love just sitting on a porch and chatting with my siblings. I smoke and so does one other of my brothers so we do that. But I have two brothers. We all sit and talk. My autistic brother doesn’t smoke, but him sitting out there while I do is my favorite thing in the world. Lilly seems to really mostly be able to sit and enjoy time together. So much potential to enjoy company. I hope she always has people around her.
I like how Lily’s dad said that everyone has different brains, and how that’s fine.
She is so aware of everything around her more than I think most see. When her father started crying she calmed down and put her head on him. She knew he was emotional.
Thank goodness Chris is in this world. A true hero and voice for all the special people in this life. This channel is something to be mega proud of. We all love you 🥰 ❤

Watching her and her brother interact brought me to tears, the huge genuine smiles on their faces. Pure unconditional love ♡
This father stood out from all other videos in that he was so honest and open about the hardships that come with the love and the hope. The younger brother has learned his own way of loving and comforting his sister and it's precious to see. And the mom is so strong and full of love. They all love her so much! Lily is understanding much more than I thought say first. She grew very quiet as she listened to what her father said and giggled and laughed when he brother showed her physical love through hugs and kisses.

the way she reacts to the different people/interview situations/whatever's being discussed/the emotions being had, is striking and such an important reminder that just because someone doesn't talk, doesn't mean they don't understand.
What a beautiful family, Lily seems like such a sweet girl. Lily and her brother also clearly have such a special bond. omg the brother is just everything, the love he has for her is amazing
Lily is such a happy girl and has a wonderful personality, which is supported by her caring parents and brother. The mom and dad did a great job of communicating the joys and challenges of parenting Lily, as a child with special needs.
as a preemie twin born with CP and schizencephaly, I was lucky not to have the side effects they expected. I've met lots of kids more severe like Lily & you can clearly see the awareness in their eyes! go Lily, you're rocking it! love your laugh!!
Everyone is talking about the dad, but mom’s beautiful description of her daughter was so lovely too.
Wow! Lily is clearly such a valuable teacher for everyone. I mean, the mom said she doesn't have part of the brain thought to be responsible for sight, and yet here she is, seeing! She teaches that what's important is right now, and that the future is never set in stone. She also teaches that communication isn't just about words. Thank you, loving family, for introducing us to Lily! ❤😊
Dad is such a loving sensitive man. I can totally see where the brther gets his tender heart from. Lilys laugh is the best!

Lily is adorable. She seems very aware and happy and I’m sure this is a result of all the love care and stimulation her family provides. I hope she has many more birthdays. ❤
My dad was a quadriplegic and he would always say that if you have a question about his disability, just ask. If he isn’t ok with a question, he would say so.

Hi Lilly! Hi Asa, mom and dad! Your video was really enjoyable, and I could tell right away Lilly has a particular fondness for her brother. As for mom and dad, you guys are doing a fantastic job and have without question made the right decision in relation to Lilly. The sort of decision that will be rewarded in due time.
My heart just melts with Lily. She is genuine and her family loves her. That's how it should be. Just like her dad said there are struggles but if Lily could talk she'd say "I wouldn't have it any other way" She reminds me of a friend who had cerebral palsy like me but unlike me she wasn't born with it. You could tell she loved everyone around her but there was a special bond her and I had :D. She like Lily was wheelchair bound and couldn't talk but you could tell she was happy. Also Asa is such a good brother.
Lily is so adorable!! Her family is amazing too🫶🏻
What a gorgeous little soul. Her smile lights up the universe ❤
I LOVE dad’s sun analogy: the whole family orbits her because of her needs… but the sun also gives off SO MUCH warmth… just like Lily ❤
I relate to this family so deeply. My daughter was just born with a rare genetic condition and doctors also can’t provide us with a roadmap. What an incredible story and an even more beautiful family. I’d love to be connected with them if possible!
