A K24 Swapped First Gen CRX is a NA BEAST!
By Aaron Gaghagen and Brian Gillespie
Now that we have the K24 running in Vic's first generation CRX it's time to see how much power it makes. It sounds so good! We also wanted to see how swapping in the big block K series effected the weight balance. After all, it is Vic's race car. It was corner balanced before with the B16 he used to have. Now with the engine and transmission on opposite sides, it will be interesting to see the effect on handling.
To do your own K24 first gen CRX/ third gen Civic swap we have compiled a parts list from this build.

Lightweight cars really are the most fun. One of my last Hondas was an ‘84 CRX with a modified carburetor and it was one of the most fun cars I’ve ever had. I drive a 1LE Camaro now, to put it in perspective, and I’m always jealous when I see an 80’s or 90’s Honda.

@TrueBlueEG8 25 years and 17 Hondas later I'm well versed - my bought new 1999 EK had a B18C5 in 2002 and my EG had a B20v with 225whp in 2003 1800lbs on semi slicks, full suspension. Bumpy is a problem for older Hondas because they have less stroke and short wheel base - longer travel with a touch more weight keeps the car planted better - add in a wider track with 305 wide tires and you'll have more lateral grip available and more weight over the front axle to make use of the grip and power on conrer exit. Anyway- have a great day

I put a JDM GSR in my 91 back in the very early 00s and just that bone stock i ran a low 13sec.. which for its time was pretty damn fast! I built another motor that was setup for 280whp+ NA but when it was ready for the dyno i wrecked the car and sold the parts off. I think i could have gone mid-low 11s with it. Which again, for its time in approx 05-06ish was fast! The beauty of All motor, is your car always works. All my boosted friends constantly had issues.

I had Alot of fun with a 91 si civic hatchback. I bought it with an incomplete swap. B18a1, intake, header, gsr limited slip/close ratio, tein coilovers, urethane bushings, but it didn't run until I rewired the computer, and injectors. I had built my own 2.5 inch exhaust with 2 mufflers, and it was still too dang loud. I had some really light 17 inch wheels that were curbed up(so I could afford them), and I drove the wee out of that little car. People didn't expect a ratty, dented little civic to drive away from them. It was pretty amazing what it would do. Miss that car terribly. A "friend" stole it,(forged paperwork) . At the time was battling for custody of my son, so I was out of money for attorney fees. I only had a couple thou wrapped up in it so it could have been worse, I guess . never saw him or the car again. I hope it snap oversteers in a corner, with an unintended off-road excursion.

Y’all need to build an h22a if yall like torque and revs. My 4th gen prelude makes 230whp all the way to 8500rpms with minor mods and a dyno tune. I genuinely believe h series is so slept on for no reason lol people have big misconceptions with the h22. I’ve had mine since I was 17 and I’m 25 now, never rebuilt completely original other than timing belt. Also has a h22a4 transmission. it’s been an absolute dog on the streets and handles anything you give it. It is also a handling machine, best fwd car I’ve ever driven in the corners.

I had a 1990 CRX with an H22A swap with nitrous. It was on the cover of Sport Compact Car in September of 2002. It was also on the season finale of the TV show "Pinks!" We raced a VW. I should bring that car back.

even the NA K24 in mostly stock form freaking RIPS. My FG2 (8th gen 2 door SI) swapped with a nearly stock (not even FBO) K24a2, making only 220 WHP / 170 TQ at the wheels, goes neck and neck with the lower end V8's lmao. It was insane going from the K20z3 to the K24a2, only 10 more WHP but the Torque is absolutely insane. More torque at 2k rpm than you were getting at 6k rpm / Vtec. That power to weight coupled with the Helical FWD LSD is an experience most people are sleeping on / have no idea about, it's much better than the common open diff lower powered FWD cars. Best part is a good K24a2 is about $1000 lmao.

I just looked up the curb weight difference for 1st gen vs 2nd gen, it's not as much as I thought it would be. Do you think it's worth swapping a 1st gen when a 2nd gen has so much more aftermarket support and arguably better suspension design? I love 1st gens too but it seems like a more difficult swap just to be different.
