The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

My husband and I took in two extended families. We lived in costal Texas and the churches were full of refugees from the storm. We had a guest house and an extra bedroom. We went to church and brought home 5 people. Three of them stayed 3 months, one was blind, another had one leg. They stayed 3 months and the mother and son stayed 6 months. One of the best times in our lives.

My family rode out Katrina in Slidell. I didn’t hear from them for 2 weeks, as the cell towers were no operating. Finally, someone drove to Baton Rouge and called family members to let us know they were alright.

I know Slidell very well. I also was affected by Katrina and right afterwards Rita. 60, 000 evacuees came to Houston, Dallas wouldn't take any. So when another historic hurricane hit 2 weeks later they learned not to evacuate to another gulf coast area again. Rita was worse here. Like Ike and Harvey.

I drove 18 wheelers, was contracted out to FEMA. I hauled refrigerated trailers and dropped them at Dallas. The trailers were bought by FEMA. Trailers were full of bodies. I don’t know what happened to the “load” after I dropped the trailers. I honestly will never do that again.

I had a similar experience with Hurricane Sandy. I remember driving up and down the Jersey Shore on the Thanksgiving after Sandy. We had no electricity for over a week so we didn't know how bad it was and I remember that there were only few places with electricity which was Burger King, the Laundry mat, and Wet and grocery store in my area. I remember spending a whole day with my father at the laundry mat along with other people getting their clothes washed and going to Burger King afterwards. When Thanksgiving came and most towns had electricity, we drove down to the shore a saw utter destruction. Everything was reduced to timber. And now when you drive down there, it was as if a hurricane never happened. One memory I will never forget.

Wow Ron! I thought I usually hung on your every word. This time was like wow! All you were describing. I can still remember seeing it on TV 📺 in disbelief. And hearing it was so much worse in person. Why am I not surprised that you took your own plane and filled it with supplies and went as soon as possible to try and help out. Don't feel bad about not having baby formula and diapers. NO ONE can think of EVERYTHING to bring in a case like that. Especially rushing to help. That was an interesting story about wanting to open your own home 🏡 to a young Mom and her children. You'll probably never know if it would have been better or worse. Awesome video. I remember Katrina very well, growing up just south of New Orleans and being 8 years old as it hit. It never really occurred to me how insane it was to go through so young, as a kid I didn't really comprehend it all. We were home, luckily above water, with no communications. Our whole community banded together, though. Wild times. Thank you for helping our state with your solo-mission, it's actually very incredible to hear!

Such a wonderful man to just up and head down to the hardest hit communities from Katrina. You are full of love for your fellow man and you made sure to not just sit back and do nothing but send in dollars for donations. But you loaded up your plane and helped so many deserving people ; even as FEMA was hiding alot and then let stuff """ pressure cook"" in those trailers. What a waste that was and cost all of us taxpayers. But you went the extra mile ! I am truly proud to be part of your page and one day may get the chance to meet you.!! Well a lady can hope ; cant she ?? Don't worry I sm not flirting. Happily married like you 💕 I just like to meet people who are good souls and go the extra mile for others !!

You are such a good man Ron. It would be nice if some of the family heard this and reached out to you. Katrina was so devastating. We had evacuees move into my state after Katrina hit. I lived inland but I won't ever forget that night. After Katrina moved inland it went right over the end of our state. As soon as it hit the electricity went off and my husband was called out to help get trees etc up out of the roads. He didn't return home for days. The whole night it roared as if a tornado was going over. I could hear trees falling. I remember thinking if I got through this I can get through anything. Thanks for sharing..

I have a fascination with Hurricane Katrina. I was 15 at the time but it was a horrible time for sure. There was one tragic story I always think of when I remember Hurricane Katrina, it was the tragedy about the St Rita's nursing home. While the rest of St Bernard's Parish had evacuated there were elderly left in St Rita's nursing home. 35 people died and mostly slow drowning deaths. I remember reading a story about a daughter who went out there to be with her mother as workers and owners just left everyone to die essentially. She stayed with her mother while that entire hurricane came over. The water seeping through the walls she held her mother up so she would not drown. They survived. She heard screams of people crying for help as they were being slowly drowned. This was another case of injustice as 35 people died but no one was held accountable. This is one the worst natural disasters I have seen in my lifetime. Thank you for your efforts in going down there. God Bless.

I want to say thank you for what you done after Katrina, your heart is as big as the world, not many people would come from way up north to help us down here. I remember Katrina all too well, chaos was not the word for that disaster, I am a little north of there but it reached up to us and I was 5 months pregnant at the time and the night as Katrina was coming in I had to be rushed to the ER and we were not allowed to go south on interstate so we had to go the backroads and I swear, that was the worse day of my life. Baby was fine but mama here had a severe panic attack that it made me sick, we were coming back home when she was starting to really show her wrath on us. We were without lights for about 3 weeks and FEMA was and still is a BIG LAUGH! all those poor people in New Orleans and surrounding areas, all the lives lost..but thank you again for your help back then!!!

Another great video. You have a big heart. I just got done after 15 hours of severe storms and tornado coverage as a service to our local area. It's always refreshing to hear about others who serve because it's the right thing to do. Ron, like the military guys said "you're one of us." From our pack of hard working meteorologists around the country..."Welcome aboard as you are also one of us!" You are a great teller of stories and great knowledge of weather, great heart of gold. Please keep up the great work!

My husband was (and still is) a police officer in Jefferson Parish, right outside New Orleans for Katrina. We live in Mandeville, just West of Slidell. It took him three days to get home to me. We had zero communication. I heard him pull up and we ran into each others arms. That was the first time I saw him cry. He cried because people were begging him for food/water and he didn’t have any to give them. He was heartbroken over not being able to help them. My two brothers were firemen in the same parish. Police started handing out guns to them. It was an incredibly difficult time and dangerous time. THANK YOU for helping!

My Mother lived in Waveland Mississippi and a 36 foot Surg wave went over her ground level apartment. Hurricane Katrina killed her. Even on her death certificate it says; Hurricane Katrina, as her cause of Death.

You are such a amazing man Ron. I enjoyed this story & the way you care about people. You didn't know this family but were willing to bring them into your home to help them get back on their feet after this terrible tragedy. I've never met anyone like you, it just amazes me.
