A homemade Lathe Bed is going to be better
New projects homemade lathes bed (second lathe)
Hello KZreadr, today I’m glad to share my new second homemade lathes.
I do happy to make a bigger size because my first lathe the size is a bit small, when milling a big plate of thick metal is not easy because the length is not enough space to milling than the plate metal I used is thin most are 10 mm thick.
So I decided to make a new lathe bigger than the previous lathe. Now there is enough experience to make a new lathe also.
I hope you all enjoying my new lathe from part 1.

Not bad. You should fill every hollow space with epoxy granite or at least with cement

God bless you! I see, you like this job and you make effort, nice! I watched some of your previous videos, and think that your main ideas are good, simple and right, but like you see - need some improvement. First good one, many another people made similar diy lathes, but often do not care about the most basic thing like - lathe bed should be massive and made carefully, rather - more than other parts (not less, like usual). Second main very good idea is exactly what you show in this video, but this guy @wallwn is right. Still, DIY lathe should be precise. So, to achieve that, you need to get some REFERENTIAL parts for your planer with good tolerances. Instead you use those rectangular profiles like planer guide ways for your improvised linear bearings, you should install on them couple of real precise linear guides like HGW, HGH, or SBR, SCS type, about more or less 20mm size, with set of appropriate linear bearings. Even, you can use precise tool steel rods or something. You can still find couple of those precise guides here or there, for about less than US $100 to 200. Another way, is to make yourself those referential parts (guides): with using "Whitworth 3 plate method" (harder way, but google it if you like DIY). Attach your lahe bed firmly on your planer, make parallel your referential planer guide ways with lathe bed ways, level them, and - DO NOT DETACH them until you finish grinding ALL SIDES of your lathe bed ways. So, you can get not only straight lathe ways, than ALL of their sides PARALLEL! About grinding is good to set up right speed of grinding stone. If chose lower speed, then stone can wear too early and you can not get realy straight grinding. With too high speed, temperature of grinded material can be too high and cause tension in material. If you use welding to make some of precise machine parts, after that is favorable to apply temperature treatment on those parts to release tensions inside metal caused by welding. After that should be applied precise grinding, rather than before. Also, avoid closed steel profiles (square, rectangular, round ...) as part of your precise machines, or to form hollow parts, because they like to increase "ringing" (vibrations), what is also unfavorable for precision. If still use them, fill them with at least fine sand, or concrete, or Epoxy Granite, or to make some openings on them to prevent resonances. Best regards!

16:32, такая шлифовка сомнительна, повторяет профиль направляющих по которым перемещается вся твоя приспособа для шлифовки (по ржавым уголкам ездиш, сомнительно, что будет всё как хочеш)
