Hello Sue, I finally adopted a flock of bantam chickens! Joining the chicken hobby finally and so far it has been a lot of fun and cuddles

Hi there, good to hear from you again! I am so happy for you and that you wrote to tell me! The more good people who keep chickens the better! I am hopefully about to make a video on roosters as 'pets', so maybe that will be interesting for you. I have a warning though - keeping chickens is addictive and you can never quite stop yourself from thinking about how lovely it would be to have chicks - I had seven hatch yesterday from a hidden nest in the garden. So just to let you know you have started on the slippery slope to Chicken Mania - and long may it continue! Big hugs to your flock from Normandie, Sue xx

Our lot have their small and big dustbathing groups, none like your lovely girl however 😊 ... trenches aplenty around the garden, lol!! Our young frizzle poland boy, who is still as active as a rabbit lol (hopefully for the hens, he'll calm down soon as he and his silkie 'brother' is coming up to 1 year of age?! 😁 ... sounds off when a blackbird is flying over the garden, and that's quite often lol! Most of the chooks however aren't bothered by the other birds, including the noisy Jackdaws (a very raucous family nesting again in one of the chimney pots). We do have very low-flying peregrines on occasion, and that's when Fluffy (Wynadotte boy) gives a shriek and everybody takes notice! Xx

Hi there Kirsty! This planter used to have some beautiful flower in it but ended up as an exclusive nest box and dust bath (though Bangle seemingly is the only one that uses it for dust bathing). Roosters are so important to warn against predators but for my lot they have become a bit blasé because of the cover now afforded by the trees and all the plants and bushes around them. Bangle though is ever cautious - and selective. Much love to you and your flock, Sue xx

@@Pavlovafowl Your planter is now a beautiful nestbox! 😊 We use 2nd hand cat litter trays that are cheap or FOC, and we like to give some of our chooks' eggs as "thank you". Love Kirsty xx

Hi there! Good to hear from you! Bangle is so funny - like her mother Bungle she has a unique personality and like her she's a real loner and does her own thing. Also like Bungle she's not really keen on being part of a flock, so also hence the private bath! All the very best, love Sue xx

@@Pavlovafowl How interesting! I have wondered whether any chickens like to be a bit more solitary. I have one serama hen in my flock who doesn't really hang out much with the others. Perhaps it is just a personality trait. Comforting to hear that she may not be lonely. She may like it! Thank you.

She might be a chicken, but she's keeping an 'eagle eye'!

In the USA back in the 1930s (during the Great Depression), the citizens were promised "a chicken in every pot" by the politicians to garner votes. Now this hen is another side to that saying. Hi there, good to hear from you! I don't know if you are aware of this but that was a direct 'steal' from Henri IV of France also known as Good King Henry. He said it first in the 16th century: "Si Dieu me prête la vie, je ferai qu’il n’y aura point de laboureur en mon royaume qui n’ait les moyens d’avoir le dimanche une poule dans son pot!“ and that is where the famous French: 'poule au pot' recipe actually comes from too. The star of this film is the daughter of Bungle my bantam Golden black-laced Polish hen who appeared in many of my videos and like her, Bangle is a one-off and a perfectly self-contained lady - you are so right. @@Pavlovafowl Hello Sue. I did not know the origin of that phrase. Watching you with your animals is entertaining and informative on so many levels. What a lot of people probably think is that your critter care is easy and quick. Those of us who have had life long pets or animals of any kind know what efforts must be made to sustain the animal's lives. When we watch and enjoy your videos, we receive a large amount of stress relief, (IMO). It is hot and sunny here-----90+ degrees in greater Los Angeles with the deserts reaching over 100 (F) I would love to have a forest canopy and carpet near me to spend tin.' Hi Gina! Absolutely, she is the daughter of Bangle of very fond memory and she actually, like her, is not keen on other birds, she is the hen equivalent of Greta Garbo, so it's fitting she should star in her own film! Much love, Sue xx
