A Heart Attack Survivor's story

Ойын-сауық

National Wear Red Day is a massive public awareness day urging everyon to wear red and bring attention to a big killer for women: Heart Disease and stroke! We are thrilled to have a survivor share her story. The American Heart Association is full or resources and more! Kim Christenson, a local North Shore woman, suffered a major heart attack in September 2016. She had just finished up a training session with her friend, when she started to feel a burning in her chest and unimaginable pain in her neck, jaw and back. As the pain continued to worsen, she began to recognize that something was wrong and called 911. This is where her perfect chain of survival began. Because Kim did not hesitate one more second with calling 911, the paramedics came when they did. Because the paramedics are part of the American Heart Association’s Mission Lifeline program, they were able to use Kim’s EKG reading to alert the hospital that they needed to prepare a Cath lab for her. Because that Cath lab was ready upon arrival, doctors were able to determine that Kim was suffering from what is known as a widow maker’s heart attack: 100% blockage in the left descending artery and perform emergency surgery. Kim coded 6 times as doctors worked to place a stent in her artery, so she is forever grateful for the help and care that she received that day and for the perfect chain of survival that has given her the opportunity to share her story with other women.

I had a massive heart attack at 30yrs old & another massive heart attack just under 3 weeks ago at the age of 34. What angers me the most is the fact hospitals seem to have the opinion only older people have heart attacks. If you're under a certain age they treat you like it's anything but a heart attack. What further angered me is the heart awareness books/pamphlets they give you, 98% of the people in them are over 55. There's an age discrimination towards heart attacks & it needs to stop before someone dies!

exactly the same for stroke..my husbands stroke occurred when he was 48 and they dismissed our questioning that it could be a stroke when he had strange symptoms prior to the stroke and when he was having the stroke. he is now paralysed from the stroke,

@@mereej8924 I'm so sorry you & your husband went through that. It's a horrific feeling when you're begging the medical help for help & they ignore you. I hope you & your husband are okay & that your husband's mobility can increase.

@@iinspiredmantic2301 Thankyou so much. He is a tetraplegic- it was a brainstem stroke that few survive. But yes there is nothing so scary as trusting the Dr's in ED and realizing afterwards they had no idea what was going on. You lose faith for sure.

Roar Ellefsen This show sounds like a con to bring up "cholesterol" as the cause of her heart attack!

Our 35 yr old daughter was very active (hiking, walking and occasional 5k races). What none of us knew was that her constant sweating and heartburn were indicators of a possible heart issue. Our daughter died 8 months ago due to a widowmaker heart attack. Her cholesterol was very high, along with her triglycerides and LDL. Her doctor knew about these numbers but failed to really address the danger of these numbers. Please insist that your doctors be proactive and communicative!

Carbs and fat. Fat alone and protein not the enemy. Cholesterol is not the enemy. Sugar!! She probably thought she was eating healthy.

You can have high cholesterol, if the blood vessels don’t have deposits on them you are ok.
