There was nothing there on Monday bro. I was at the same spot. Not even a moan yet either. But there’s definitely a stag on that ridge you shoot from and camp on. I could smell his pissed up stench when I packed up and left yesterday morning, and there were fresh stag prints near that little wallow you drop down onto in the bottom of the little saddle on that ridge just before the blind. Spent a bit of time trying to get onto him, but no luck. Obvious sign of other hunters in there over the weekend too. Fresh ferns laid down to lie on in both shooting spots. At least they are roaring all around me where I am camped right now though. I might tell you where that is after I come out tomorrow 😉😆

Watching the first deer shots your wind call was spot on when you called it but then looking a the toi toi bush top right just after you called the hold it stopped moving so your shot was unfortunately in a dead spot in the wind. Unlucky Papatūānuku needed to take a breath right when you pulled the trigger

Another good video. 👍 Bummer on that first deer. But that’s why it’s called hunting. You should do another cooking video and make some really nice veno meals. Personally me and my daughter just made some smoked red deer jerky in the smoker. 🤤😋. Oh as an Australian I can’t believe you can leave that critter over night and the meat still be ok. Must be cool overnight across the ditch. Peak summer here we would have 1.5 hours to get that skin off for a cap or you would lose it and u have to get the guts out or the meat is gone by the morning.

Last spring, in my home state of Montana, I took a shot at a bear. I thought I had smoked it through the vitals, but I didn’t hear or see it fall. I searched for 3 hrs that night, 6 hrs the next day, starting at the bottom of the canyon and working up, and 4 hrs the day after that with my brother’s hunting dog. Never found bear. It was gut-wrenching. About a week later, I saw that same bear right back on the same knob that I’d taken a crack at him. I decided that he got to live as the recovery would have been a nightmare. Thanks for the great videos, Rogee.

@@rogeeproductions2509 it’s not exactly budget friendly to fly to the US from NZ or visa versa, but over the counter spring bear tags are relatively inexpensive for non residents at $385. I think you’d find that type of hunting very familiar as well. Get to a vantage, glass a Mtn side, stalk to 350-600 yds, take a poke, and go on a recovery adventure. Not that you’re lacking opportunities where you are at. I’d love to get down to NZ to chase some red deer, sheep, pigs, and goats that you have running around out there.
