I've known a few Irish Wolfhounds, and they are the biggest softies on earth! So chill and friendly, I have yet to meet one you couldn't instantly befriend.

caradubh Rottweilers will always be my favorite but I find Irish Wolfhounds to be amazing. I hope to get one in the near future.

A dog shaped by the Irish will surely be among the friendliest of dogs

You had an Irish Wolfhound who lived to be 13? This gives me such hope. Mine is almost 8, at the far end of 'average.' But she still acts like a puppy and the vet says she's in very good health.

My sweet Grace is 9 years now, and while she needs to rest a lot, is still so silly and sweet. Wolfies are such a joy, thanks for sharing.

This makes me so happy to hear! Our IW Liadan is almost 8. I know she's at the end of 'average' but she still acts like a puppy and the vet says she's very, very healthy, so I have great hope she'll far outdo the 'average.' I don't want to think of the alternative.

Our Wolfhound Pitcher does the exact same thing! :) He loves to lie on the couch on his back and the paws in the air.

He's beautiful! I actually have a 10-month-old wheaten IW with the same name! And I call him Merlie, as well. He's my second hound. I will never be without at least one hound again...well, at least not until I'm too old to lift their back ends. :) Cheers!

Grady is just turning 6.5 years and still a puppy but with those adult groans and stretches. Yeah, our new couch, it's his. He's so spoiled. Hope Merlin is doing well. This video is 3 years old putting Merlin at 9.5. Not unheard of but still old for an IW. Thanks for posting!

30th May 2017 and our Merlin is now 9 yrs and 3 months old and still doing very well. He is the most playful, funny boy! Still plays like a puppy with a squeeky toy and jumps about with excitement on a daily basis. I hope Grady is also full of life and fun. Best wishes.

Merlin went on to the age of 11 years, 2 months and 3 days. A super veteran! We are so proud of our boy and will never stop missing him.💗💗💗💗💗

Thats an awesome age. Grady developed cancer in his lymph nodes in his abdomen. The cancer destroyed his liver and spleen. 15 days before his 7th birthday. Average life but still missing him. You were definitely blessed to have Merlin so long.

Ah, lovely! Merlin was a lovely boy who lived to 11yrs and 2 months. We will never stop missing him. At present we have two girls, Fia and Luna and in a few days will be welcoming a new puppy, to be called Tara. We are also hoping to have puppies in the Summer. So lots of excitement ahead. 😄

Tom Tom: They live around 6-8 years. Usually any veterinarian works, but make sure you call ahead and ask if they have any experience with an Irish Wolfhound. If they do, great. If they don't, see if they couldn't do some light reading on the breed before you bring yours in. They aren't exactly cheap and they are prone to being skittish as puppies, but with socialization, they'll be fine. Each puppy is different. Sources: I have a three and a half month old I.W (his name is Seamus Finnigan). I always take in advice from my veterinarian (I am a pre-medical Human Biology major, which helps me understand what she says).
