    I live in Burleigh House, Whitworth and we're all Postgrads and PhD students so we're all indoor cats. We only socialize when our fire alarms go off randomly, which is every week. So we chill at our fire points and always talk about the weather. Lol

    Hey I am looking forward to join Manchester University. I am thinking to join Whitworth hall as a postgraduate student, may you please let me know more about the postgraduate section ( burleigh house) at Whitworth hall. How peaceful it is and does the window open towards the park( I am just fond of nature). How about the kitchen and is bathroom not too crowded.? I am not able to get any genuine review anywhere so I asked you. :)

    @@anuragtripa Hey, some of the rooms don't have windows. But the ones that do often have a view of nature. The Whitworth park, the actual park is actually a block away from the residence, but the compound itself is pretty green. Burleigh has smaller kitchens compared to some of the other buildings and some flats have fewer students in but the bathrooms are pretty standard. I hope this helps

    Hi Amritha! I will start my postgraduate course in sept this year at AMBS and wanted to know how far is Whitworth from the AMBS campus. Also, what are your thoughts about private student accommodations vs privately rented house vs university accommodation if one wants affordable catered, ensuite and wifi enabled rooms as a PG student

    What is your opinion on Denmark Road and Unsworth Park? I am an international student coming to Manchester this year and to be honest, I am not the party type ( nor a social person 😅)

  • @BananaSock33
    @BananaSock334 жыл бұрын

    I'm worried about making friends so I thought Fallowfield would be the best option, but I'm not too much of a crazy party person so I'm doubting my decision. Also, I heard that most international students live on City campus, so I'm worried that I maybe won't fit in well at Fallowfield, especially given that I'm not the type to go out every weekend. Would you say that Victoria Park is a mix of Fallowfield and City Campus (in terms of partying/socialising and international students)? Thank you so much for this video btw, it already helped a bunch! :)

  • @DearOldWorld

    @DearOldWorld

    Here's my opinion. So in short, I think go for Victoria Park. From what I've seen I don't think City Campus is very social, as my friends said, they didn't really become friends with people in their flat. In comparison, my friend from Fallowfield seemed to be quite friendly with a number of her flatmates, HOWEVER, she did mention to me (not in the vid), that she did have trouble getting to sleep sometimes on the weekend due to flat parties (one of her flatmates had a huge (almost touching the ceiling) speaker). But, Fallowfield does have the most British students, so I'm not sure whether that sways your decision either way. Also, obviously everything does depend on your flatmates. I think Victoria Park is more of a quiet social in comparison (or at least from my experience), also you can still go to flat parties at Fallowfield (granted you have to be invited). Overall, because you pretty much articulated the same concerns I had, I think Victoria Park would be a good pick. Just make sure you do take the initiative to get to know people in your hall, and don't beat yourself up if it doesn't work out, most of the time it's just luck of the draw with people. Good Luck xx

    Hey, Ill be applying for 2020 accomodation soon so can you tell me about how the catered food is and what activities happen in the fallowfield halls which are organized by Hall committees?

  • @DearOldWorld

    @DearOldWorld

    4 жыл бұрын

    I don't know much about the activities in fallowfield halls if I'm going to be honest. In terms of catered food though some common meals include: pasta bake, curry, tacos and pie. The food is pretty decent (bar the dry chicken, steak, and stewed veg), but the best part about it is probably just the amount of time it saves in terms of shopping and cooking. Sometimes I do feel like I could do with some more veg/better cooked veg, but usually for lunches I make a veg heavy meal, so it's not so bad.

    The City campus is the closest to main campus buildings, so the hall options for undergraduate are: Denmark Road, Weston Hall, Whitworth Park and Wright Robinson. The Hall options for postgraduate are: Denmark Road, George Kenyon Hall, Horniman House, Weston Hall and Whitworth Park. Hope that helps :)

However, if you know of anyone that's going there, get into a student house, that's way heaper and better. If you're staying for longer than a year, just stay in the accommodation for tht year and move to a proper house next year. Those are my tips and good luck!

    I’m so sorry for the delayed response. Unfortunately, I’m not really sure what accommodation you should apply to, however, the university has halls specifically for post-grad students, so perhaps have a look at those. Living in non-uni accomodation (a sharehouse, etc.) may also be cheaper than uni halls. Also, as I was doing econ under the social sciences rather than the business school, I actually never went into the business school, but it is part of the main uni campus so it’s really not far from other buildings

    Hi K as @Reegan Kay mentioned, the hall you are put in does not depend on your subject choice, they try to base them on the preferences you put down. I asked a friend about nightlife in Manchester (as that's not really my scene) and this is what he had to say "Better than aus you can get in really late like after 1am, a lot of students out so everyones down to meet eachother and theres different venues that play different music - indie, tech, r&b", "Something for the whole family!". I know some people studying sociology, and will get back to you when I can :)
