A Guide For Newbies - Setting Up Modes and Switches for iNav

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video we take a look at how to set up basic switches and modes. First we look at how to set up the switches on an OpenTX transmitter. Then we look at how to set these mode in iNav. This is a part of a iNav Guide for Newbies series, which takes each part of the set up process and brakes them down in to small parts.

    Very useful.. Just returning to fixed wing flying (as soon as lockdown is over of course) and flight controllers hadn't even been invented when I last flew fixed wings in the crystals & peg board days, so I'm very glad that you're presenting it in a way that it's easy to understand for pilots with no proir knowledge, very helpful indeed...

    I’m glad it’s helpful Stu. I’m sure you’ll have a load of fun when we can get out flying. I only experienced crystals on my RC car when I was a kid. I’d imagine it was a bit of a pain though. Especially if there were a couple of clubs close to each other.

    The procedure for autolaunch is: 1. Select a basic flight mode (manual, acro, horizon, or angle) 2. Enable launch mode 3. Arm 4. Select the mode to exit to (loiter in your case) 5. Raise the throttle 6. Throw the plane 7. Have fun!

    That video only shows a basic switch setup. For modes, you really want to be using the same RC channel for all your flight and navigation mode. This can be done in OpenTX by combining switches. But, if you’re new to this, I would recommend the INAV Fixed Wing Group OpenTX model. That basically has all you need set out for you. That can be found here inavfixedwinggroup.com/guides/transmitter-models/standard-opentx-model-v3/ If you wanted to try it yourself. This video shows different methods of combining switches. kzread.info/dash/bejne/a4Ftw66PeLOyZJM.html My video for autolaunch goes over the setup for it and the correct procedure for launching the plane kzread.info/dash/bejne/pJ6TtLWriNTPkps.html

    Using a Taranis X9D+ with iNav 6 and I followed everything step by step, but my SF arm switch isn't working when I switch over to iNav, and SA will only set as a 2-position switch, not 3. Sometimes when I switch back to iNav in the Rx tab it'll show the Ch5 position high, but as soon as I flip it, it goes low and stays there. If I mess with the weights I can get it to recognize the SF switch, but it won't recognize it as-is as show here. :( Any idea why?

    If you're using WTF-OS on your DJI goggles. Enable System messages in the OSD. That may point to the issue that's causing the beep. If not, in configurator, go to the CLI and type status. That will return some codes that may highlight the problem causing the beep. You can check the codes at github.com/iNavFlight/inav/wiki/%22Something%22-is-disabled----Reasons

    Hiya Darren. Hope you are well. I had a question .... if im in altitude hold mode, but pitch the nose up or down (so that the plane changes altitude) does the altitude change then hold once i come off the pitch stick? Or does it make the plane return to the altitude at the point at which the alt hold switch was enabled?.

  • @MrD

    @MrD

    3 жыл бұрын

    If you use the elevator, I believe that it will hold the new altitude. Don’t forget that altitude hold should not be used on it’s own. It must be used with either Angle or Cruise.

    @@MrD thanks for the information. So i assume in order to get alt hold... i need to have already activated angle mode? So if i have angle mode on a switch that is 'on' i can have another seperate switch that then adds alt hold to angle mode when it is switched 'on'? The reason why i ask is because i saw an andrew newton video where he doesnt have angle and just has an alt hold switch. kzread.info/dash/bejne/d5Z215uFqNjNfs4.html. It looks like he didnt enable angle mode...

  • @MrD

    @MrD

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes, it's best just to have both Angle (or cruise) and Alt hold light up at the same time for a given switch position. But you can set althold on a separate switch, and only add it when you want it. I'm guessing this is what Andrew is doing. You just have to be mindful that you should only use it with Angle or Cruise. You should never use it with Manual, Acro, or Horizon. I'd probably even go so far as to add logic so that it would only activate when either Angle or Cruise are selected.

    Hi Wayne if the throttle moves correctly on the receiver page, and the motor moves with the slider on the outputs page. You don’t really need to use the throttle on the transmitter to test. It will work. It’s purposely disabled as a safety feature. If you feel you need to, make sure the prop is off. Firstly re-centre all the trims on the transmitter. Then toggle the arm switch off and on 10 times. After that, the warning triangle in the top centre ⚠️ should light up yellow. At that point, the transmitter throttle will control the motor.

    Sorry for the late reply, I was feeling quite unwell yesterday. To be honest, it is very hard to diagnose what's going on without seeing anything. What you're describing does sound a little odd. I would have suggested trying the 10 times toggle in a non-navigation mode, and to check the arm switch range. It should work without issue. The motor would not work if you're in a navigation mode. For checking things like the motor or throws, it's always best to be in manual. Also, if you have autolaunch permanently enabled, this may interfere? I'm not 100% on that, as I only ever use it on a switch. I like to be in control. I've noticed this comment is on the modes video. Have you seen this one on setting up 4.x kzread.info/dash/bejne/aI2prMx6m9Goo7Q.html ? The 4.0 vs 4.1 thing I'm am certain is a placebo. It's more likely that something has been set up slightly differently in the firmware configuration when you set up 4.0. I've seen the changes between the two, and they are identical in those aspects. I'm sure if you took a diff all from 4.0, flashed 4.1 and reinstated the diff, it would all work fine. As far as 4.1 goes, it is no more or less stable than 4.0. The main changes are for HD Zero integration, a couple of filter changes, and some updated in configurator for improving the modes page. Everything else is basically identical. LEDs can be a pain. I used to have plenty of problems with them. But then I must have changed how I was doing things as the just started working. This was back quite a few versions ago, so not a firmware issue. Now they work fine on any builds I put them on. Mateksys 2812 LEDs are WS2812; Matek just dropped the WS prefix for some reason. I have this video, maybe it will help? kzread.info/dash/bejne/hKyc0a2pqpDbqto.html

    It won’t matter that you’re mode 1. It’s only the transmitter that deal with that. So long as iNav has the correct channel order, it will work fine. Have you checked out my other videos in that playlist? kzread.info/head/PLtuty5zAsZ_aRUdASwMPFQp2efIeR-tV0 The first thing is to get the receiver page all working correctly, then the board alignment, then the mixer and outputs. If you flick the arm switch, nothing will happen unless you have enough satellites to arm. One thing is to make sure you have system messages enabled in your OSD. Anything blocking arming will be shown there.

    Firstly, you should be careful when inverting channels on the radio; especially the first 4 channels. I'd recommend checking this video, just to make sure that the first 4 channels are correct kzread.info/dash/bejne/lGWhk8OMote8c7Q.html Next, go to the receiver page in iNav and move your arm switch. You should only see CH 5 moving with your arm switch (SF) and CH 6 moving with your mode switch (SA). If this is not the case, there is something not right on the transmitter. If this is working correctly, go to the modes page. On the modes page, double check that the range for angle is set to CH 6. Remember to press the save button, otherwise you won't see the true results. Let me know what happens here.
