When I was younger
My daddy told me I would never
Never amount to nothing special
He'd come at me from every angle
He'd say
You're the last thing I wanted, the last thing I need
How am I gonna answer when my friends tell me
My son was kissing boys in the street
He tried to change me
Said I'm embarrassing my country
How could I do this to my family
Do I wanna grow up being lonely
He'd say
We have worked for our money, we put you in school
Is this how you repay us
Do you think this is cool
My son, stop kissing boys in the street
My son, stop kissing boys in the street
Now that I'm older
My daddy's heart's a little warmer
But he still won't hug me like my brother
And he still won't kiss me like my mother
He'd say
You're a part of this family, I made you myself
But the way that you act isn't good for your health
My son, stop kissing boys in the street
My son, stop kissing boys in the street
My daddy's dying
And he's finally realized I'm not lying
We sit in silence but we're smiling
Because for once we are not fighting
He says
There was no way of knowing 'cause all I was taught
Is men only love women, but now I'm not sure
My son, keep kissing boys in the street
My son, keep kissing boys in the street
When I'm gone, keep kissing boys in the street

I'm not ashamed to admit the ending of this beautiful song made me cry openly. As a straight guy, I've never personally experienced the animosity I know that gay folks have. I wish I could do more to stop that sort of thing happening. ❤🧡💛💚💙

This is the magic of AGBW - simple production, not overly done but always hits with the message each song has to convey.

When I first heard this, the last few lines hit me hard. I remember sitting with my dad in his hospital bed. I didn’t know he was dying, but he wasn’t completely lucid, so we just sat smiling at each other, not really saying anything. He died that night. If I’d have known, I wouldn’t have stopped talking to him. I’d have thanked him for accepting me as gay and as his own son (I was adopted.) And thanking him for his open-mindedness that meant I didn’t have to go through the pain told so beautifully in this song.

Anyone in the LGBT community can relate to this. I know I did as a lesbian who had a gay brother.

This song is amazing I’m not gay but I do have a strained relationship with my dad because I’ve always felt like he is disappointed in me so this song still hits home to me.

Sorry for the dislike but I really don't like being notified that a video is up only to find out that it's not, that it won't be for [enter time here]. If one is already subscribed to a channel they don't need to 'set reminder' as they'll be notified in any case. This seems to be the way too many on YT want to travel but I'm also willing to bet it's not getting more eyes to released videos, only more page-reads that benefit YTs algorithm.

I believe that the way the algorithm works is it gives preferential treatment in how it recommends videos (something that is apparently very important to a creator’s success) based on those that do well in the first few hours after being released. From a business standpoint for creators, it makes complete sense to release videos with a set time to get everyone watching in those critical first hours. I don’t have notifications for any of the channels I follow because I can’t stand getting notifications, I just check KZread several times a day to see who has dropped a video.

@@daneekaplan4284 thanks for the response. I get notified via an RSS feed of my subscriptions so every time a video is posted it shows up in my email box. And when something comes in that catches my interest (like this video) I click over to view it - too often of late, only to find there's nothing there. You have to admit that's not a way to make someone happy, especially for a song as emotional as this, which I first came across last June with this release: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lqFoytZ-fdSYlLA.html and for which the tears haven't dried. I had a father like that but he never came around. If those emails were properly titled by KZread this wouldn't be a problem because then the titles would tell me whether this was a premier or a general video release. YTs intention of getting users to click here to 'set a reminder' is just a way for them to get eyes to a page for ad revenue. KZread was bad enough and Google's management of the platform has been a disaster so I cannot imagine what the future holds. Though I suppose capitalism will destroy everything sooner or later.
