This poem is gut wrenching. My grandma recently got diagnosed with dementia. I originally listened to this after I lost my dad(heart attack), but now I stand here again. Theres so much emotion tied to these words.I can't think about the day she won't remember me.....it breaks me down every time. Thank you for this poem. 💙

I always come to your videos while I’m upset and crying, I find myself saying “I need your words”. you’ve helped me through breakdowns in multiple places and I keep coming back, even when I’m not sad your words help me cope with life and I’m gonna go as far to say I love you. Thank you Shane, thank you for everything

I'm so scared of my dad having Alzheimer.. knowing I won't be able to call him daddy again, grab his shirt and cry because my husband said something mean when I won't be able to tell you I love you dad, and a reply will be "I love you too, my little princess" when I won't be able to afford being without him but his prescense will mean that I am just an unknown person at his side, nothing but ashes of the girl he used to protect with all his might I won't be his little girl, his little warrior and I won't be able to talk about our favorite books together I'm so scared of Alzheimer because I'm scared of losing my favorite person in the world

there was once a story of a grandma with Alzheimers who's granddaughter asked her do you remember me and the grandma replied "No, but i remember I love you." no matter the ailment muscle memory will help him hug you back the way he used to and his mind might not be there but your love for him will always be.

When I was a kid one of my ex’s grandfather ended with dementia and eventually thought I was his grandson and she was just my girlfriend. I spent a lot of time with him before he died the worst part was always when he would understand something was wrong and tell me about how afraid he was. I also remember the 2am phone calls asking me to call grand pop because he stole the car again.

What good a piece of my puzzle of my depression, a puzzle that seems impossible to complete, it keeps falling like my memories of my happiness in the past, fading away like a fake smile, Dissolving like a spoonful of sugar in a cup of water. My Depression is my prison that feels like it’s been forever, my joy has been at an edge of a collapsing cliffside trying to hold on the cliff that crumbles between its fingers, covers the palms in dust. My Depression is the darkness of my glowing soul which makes me feel like I’m soulless every single day, my soul has been missing for many years, I feel like an empty husk begging for a life but cannot scream for help and just continues to stare endlessly at the world I’ve been on for 18 years. My Depression is my cold, dead, and dark war that never has ended but arrives every day.

What did he mean when he said "Despite your own husband, you wear your mother's wedding ring. Because it was something he asked about when he saw you without it."

  • @ChickenPooTheGreat

Brandon Alcala I'm assuming the father has dementia, so he thinks his daughter is his wife and when he saw she was wearing a different ring he must have thought she was no longer married to him. So she wears her mothers wedding ring rather than explaining over and over again that the mother passed away a few years earlier to avoid upsetting her father

I love this poem to death but how is it motivational? Should a poem about this topic even be motivational? It's just sad. Its beautiful, but it's really just sad. And sometimes its okay to just sit and be sad about stuff. Theres no need to make pretences towards being motivational.

  • @kimrobles8670

I agree with you it does seem just really sad. If I had to find motivation in it I'd say it's to keep loving. Hold on to any small threads you have left with family. Lying isn't always wrong. Though the situation may be complicated, even through hard times you have to bend with it to keep what small ounces of faith left in you

He says it in the poem. Every stitch is as valuable as every tear. Without the sad you dont get the good. Sadness can be inspiring to some.
