The Giant Propel Advanced One Disc is a great bike, but it's lacking something. A small upgrade to make this bike a lot better. Something that I feel is an oversight because the Propel became a much better bike with it. I will be discussing this oversight in detail in this video.

The bike fitter you found is my favorite to take advice from…I worked at a shop for 17 years and would beg to go to bicycle fitting school to learn all I could for the craft. I was blown off by the owners as they felt it was “smoke and mirrors”. I’ve been out of the shop for a decade now but still cycle regularly and have change my position just because of the guy you found (not proud right now I can recall his name!😂). I’ve never felt better in the bike in my 16 years of road cycling. So I guess I’m trying to say….thank you! Thank you to all of the cycling you tubers trying to bring content to the cycling community!

I just bought a Factor One that shipped with Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. I got two flats in 400 miles. Swapped over to GP5000 and couldn't be happier. Tires are so important. It's a shame bike companies get them wrong.

I have used Continental and Vittoria tires for four years, gp5000, grand sport, rubino pro, etc. I only changed the gavia ac1 recently. I feel that the gavia ac1 feels heavier when riding, and its performance may be worse. But maybe because it is a tubeless tyre, its comfort is so good, I even prefer gavia ac1 now.

I also had a similar experience with my 2021 Giant TCR. Within a week of riding I had a puncture that didn't seal on the stock Cadex Race tires that it came with. I swapped to a more "durable" tire, the Gavia AC1 and the tire blew a hole in the sidewall when i went over a small bump. I hate how besides the crappy giant tires, only the SCHWALBE PRO ONE TLE are approved for Giant tubeless system... not much options to choose. Anyways love your content! Keep it up. As a small youtuber, I also have trouble getting bikes to review from bike shops. Its honestly so difficult sometimes.

My experience with Giant Gavia tires is that they are usually heavier and less fast than other tires, but their endurance seems to be pretty good. The roads around me are pretty poor currently and I found that my Schwalbe didn't fair too well whereas the Gavia has done pretty well. You can also get them pretty cheap online from people upgrading which helps I'm currently running the Gavia as they were the only reasonable tubeless tires I could get a few weeks back (thanks to COVID bike shortage)

Now back to business: I switched to Continental tires in the 80's, and did not have a puncture since. The ride quality and grip in all weather conditions is perfect. With my TCR came the Gavia Course 1. They feel a bit sluggish, but grip until now is good. It was a bit of a struggle to get Continental 5000 TL tires, but now they are ready in case I need them.

likewise! I bought a 2018 TCR Advanced 1 and wasn’t impressed with the stock 25mm Gavia tyres. Felt a bit sluggish and had poor grip in damp conditions. Swapped to 28mm Schwalbe Pro Ones and the bike felt totally different - faster and more cushioned. The Schwalbes seemed to wear quickly though and I had 2 unsealable gashes within 2-3000km and some delamination of the top layer. I’ve now moved to Conti GP5000 TL, which are good, but won’t work on the 2021 Giant TCR.

Nice idea but a bit backwards . Tyres are a personal choice . If they fitted Gp400 tyres to every bike it would cost millions , how many of which would get taken off and binned ? Because it is such a personal choice giant decided to just put on their own tyre that will be replaced and kept as a backup tyre or used until worn out . Saving money on parts that will be worn out relatively quickly after purchase mean more money spent else where . Cheaper OEM tyres is not about profit , its about not wasting money .

I was blown away by the difference good, low rolling resistance tyres make for the overall feel, speed, and comfort of the bike. Personally, I prefer the Continental 5000s (220 g for a 25mm tyre, never had a puncture), I have friends who prefer the Vittorias or the P Zeros - they are all in the same ball park in terms of performance. There is a reason why one of the easiest and most noticeable upgrades one can make to their bike is swapping the tyres for some of the high-end ones. But it is so disappointing to see a bike that costs many thousands of dollars come with rubbish tyres...

On the tire thing, while you say you're not a big tire nerd, its obvious that there is a difference between the best and the rest. My preference is for bulletproof vs outright speed. As with cars, this is a thing that can quite literally transform a bike.

I own the Giant TCR Advanced Pro 1 (2021) I still have the Gavia Fondo tyres on it (shop stuffed up!). I didn't think the GP5000's were compatible with hookless rims? I bought the Shwalbe One TLE's with the gumwalls for the Summer. Looking forward to seeing if I notice a change!

I just got the TCR Advanced Pro Team (I think it is the same bike but with a different color and for the european market?) and the Gavia Course 1 tires do feel somehow slow after riding GP5000's with latex tubes in my other bike. The hookless system is frustrating with the "compatibility charts" and the decision from Continental to not recommend using their tires in the hookless system. I am looking to fit some Pirellis or Schwalbe pro ones later in the year to see if there is a difference.

Rode the Giant tyres on my Propel until they were cooked with about 3k on them. Then swapped them for some Continental 5000 and thought I was riding a different bike. Felt better on the road, faster, more compliant and smoother through corners and particularly on the down hills at speed. Turns out it was not just me. Thanks for the video. Keep up the great work.

Cam, pro audio engineer here and just a quick tip - you can pull the Procaster about 2 feet or so away from your mouth to prevent that massive low mid build up and make your voice sound more natural. Great mic but it needs some distance Great content btw

Great tip mate, I appreciate it. I seem to have a problem with my connecting audio interface then as it's almost all the way up, volume wise, yet it's still not peaking. So if i'm too far away the audio levels are super low. Thoughts?

@@CamNicholls dynamic mics are indeed very power hungry so you're smack on your observation there. It's just the nature of these broadcast mics If your audio interface can't provide enough juice, consider getting a FetHead or a Cloudlifter It should be said that modern interfaces like the budget Behringer 204HD or Motu M2 can provide good clean gain to it PS your bike fit videos convinced me to get dedicated cycling shoes, Cam. My wallet can't keep up sustaining audio AND cycling Cheers from the Philippines

Great video Cam. I sold the wheels that came with the bike to a friend who had exactly the same issue with the tyres. A massive split in the side wall. Why they don't just put GP5000 on I have no idea.

I changed the Gavia’s on my TCR before I even rode them. Once I saw the weight I immediately wanted to change them. Did the Pro one’s as they fit on the hookless wheels.

I have a TCR Disc with the Gavia ac1s, I don’t have a issue with them as I can’t compare them to anything else. I bought my TCR back in August 2020, and have since put about 3200 miles on that bike with the stock tires. Ill be looking into tires next season, probably the GP 5000 or the Shwalbe Pro. Also I feel its a waste to immediately get new tires to replace the stock Gavias, if you’re just a recreational rider. Just put the miles on the tires and replace them in about 3000 miles. They are decent tires that will get the job done until you’re ready for an upgrade down the line. Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk!

5:15 Amazing you can feel a 1.5 - 2% difference in time. Looking at it another way the Gavia tires weigh 20% more than the Schwalbe yet the time penalty (3-4s) is negigible.

I’m very iffy on giant after my recent issue with a gravel bike I purchased from them. 2021 giant revolt advanced. The crankset they put in it “praxis” was incompatible with the grx group. I heard they did this because they couldn’t get grx cranks due to availability. The frame of this bike also had an issue and the rear disc mount area where the brake would not mount properly which resulted in disc rub no matter what u did. The frame also cracked within 2 months on the seat tube!

I found the Gavia tyres very good on my TCR. They rolled easily and had good grip in wet or dry and I would have stayed with them tbh. But then, one day I thought it was time to renew the goop in the tyres. I could NOT get them to re-air.........even with a compressor and the valve out. I tried every trick I've used in my life without success ie. spraying soapy water on beads, goop on beads, etc, etc. Gave up in the end. On Pirelli 28mm's now.

Had a pair of those Gavia Zeros on my Giant. Riding down the bike path in Kent Street, Sydney, I hit a bit of construction crap that didn't hit the tyre right on the crown. Sealant shit went everywhere, none of which blocked the cut. Fortunately, Giant Sydney were about a block away. They tried to inject more sealant, but that just blew out again and all over the workshop. Bought Pirellis and a couple of tubes and haven't looked back

I recently brought the Giant TCR pro disc advance 1 and I couldn’t wait to get the standard tyres off. Swapped them for Pirelli P Zero’s. The difference is light and day. I’ve seen many KZread videos saying the Giant standard tyres are fine but I hated them.

I used Schwalbe One for years and loved them. I use Pirelli P Zero now, no noticeable difference in performance or endurance just much lighter. Paired with Schwalbe Aerothan they are sensational! Overall you'll save around 240 grams in weight.

I have a 2020 GIANT PROPEL Advanced Pro 0, the Gavia tyres gave me big fright letting go whilst leaned over going through a fast corner within first few weeks of ownership then one of them suffered a large puncture only just able to limp home with repeated filling of tire with CO2 and sealant spewing out every where, Giant external road patch of no use just fell off. Have changed to continental GP 5000TL and couldn’t be happier excellent grip good feel and one puncture which it coped with quite well . Highly recommend the Continental GP5000TL

I noticed that some brands put crap parts on a great frame when buying the med level bike from their range. Examples ;300 gram seat post, 350 gram handlebars, thru axles, quick releases 150 grams,200 gram stem, 300 gram saddle, and Your example tires. Grand total saving possible to high end parts 500 grams or 1.2 lbs. MY Canyon ultimate cs lsx disc weights 7.25 KG with pedals and cages 65 mm deep wheel set. My friends Giant defy disc weights 9.3kg because of things like handle bars etc.
