Im open about the fact i was sexually abused, im not ashamed about it. However, i cannot imagine talking so openly about the acts themselves, i just cant bring myself to. Ive been with my husband since i was 14 (1993) & im 44 now & he knows everything about me, yet ive never even told the details of my abuse to him. The thought of talking details makes bile rise in my throat & gives me mouth sweats. I commend him on being so open about his abuse, I couldnt.

I'm 21 now and can genuinely say that although my time in therapy is short in the grand scheme of things, it has forever changed me in the most positive way, giving me a proper framework to manage my life. It's never too late for things to get better x

@@pilarcastaneda2355 I did get therapy for a while back when I was about 23 after a REALLY good suicide attempt (not bcoz of the abuse but that def played a part in it). I guess I'm at the stage in life now where I'm kinda past it. I mean I know it's def 100% changed who I am is a person (I often wonder how diff I would be if I hadn't been SA) but it's not something that bothers me like it used it. I've accepted that it's a part of me, a part of who I am & my life experience & I've accepted - after many many years - that there's no shame attached to it anymore & that I'm 100% NOT at fault. I still wouldn't go into details tho lol. I have before with professionals but I just don't feel the need to hash it all up anymore, if that makes sense? It's not something I think about really, unless something brings it up like something on tv for example. Therapy isn't my thing, never has been, but it's absolutely the best thing for some people & some situations. I did get intense therapy after finding a friend's 16 yr old niece hanging. That was EXTREMELY traumatic & I couldn't sleep for months. Imo therapy is a MUST in those kinda situations, but it's not for everyone. Thanks for the reply tho you 2, it's appreciated xxx

You should NEVER feel ashamed! Its not your burden to carry. You were completely innocent. I am so sorry this happened to you. Maybe one day a good therapist can help you unpack it all, so it feels a bit lighter. (If you have a bad experience with 1 therapist, thats ok, it may not be the right fit. Try to look for someone specialised in this area of abuse.) Wishing you all the joy and happiness this world can offer- you deserve it!
