Elaine Miles, born on April 7, 1960, in Pendleton, Oregon, is a revered Native American actress of Cayuse and Nez Perce ancestry, widely acclaimed for her portrayal of Marilyn Whirlwind on the beloved television series "Northern Exposure." Her performance in the show earned her critical acclaim and positioned her as a significant figure in bringing Native American characters to mainstream television with depth, dignity, and authenticity. Beyond "Northern Exposure," Miles has contributed her talents to various projects, including appearances in "The Last of Us," showcasing her versatility and commitment to representing indigenous voices in the entertainment industry.
In addition to her acting career, Miles is deeply rooted in her cultural heritage and an advocate for environmental and indigenous rights. Her recent venture into sharing personal experiences brings a new and intriguing chapter to her public persona. Elaine has now opened up about her encounter with what she believes was Bigfoot, an experience that has not only deepened her connection to the natural world but also intertwined her story with the rich tapestry of indigenous mythology surrounding the legendary creature.
Elaine's decision to share her story comes at a time when interest in the intersections of culture, nature, and the unknown is at a peak. Her account transcends the typical celebrity encounter story, offering insights into the significance of Bigfoot in Native American culture and highlighting her ongoing commitment to environmental advocacy and the preservation of indigenous folklore.
Through this unique chapter in her life, Elaine Miles continues to inspire and captivate, enriching her legacy as an actress, storyteller, and guardian of her heritage. Her Bigfoot sighting story is not just a personal anecdote but a powerful reminder of the mysteries that remain untold in the natural world and the importance of preserving these stories for future generations.

I remember, how in an interview years after the series ended, she once spoke of how she got tagged for the role. Her Mother was auditioning for the role of Ed Chigliaks's Aunt, and she was just sitting in the waiting room with her, minding her own business when the casting director spoke to her.
The affection Elaine holds within our hearts is enormous. What a wonderful lady ❤

Happy to hear that laugh again. I was fortunate enough to be introduced to this lovely woman @ a Powwow in So Cal over 25 yrs ago. Kind, gracious, with a mischievous glint in her eye & quite the sense of humor.
She's a diamond in this world of dirt 💖
For years I rented the cute blue Victorian house before it was 'MARILYN's in Northern Exposure, filmed in Roslyn, WA. Its address then was 25 Fifth Street. My respect and fondness for Elaine Miles has never diminished.
I agree with everything she said! She is such an amazing person! And she does have amazing energy! Even the Genoskwa had to see her!

I love your energy and laughter. Thanks you Elaine for sharing your very fascinating story.
I’m Indigenous Native from a Federally Recognized Tribe in N. California and many of my family elders and even some tribal youth have seen it. I use to be interested in seeing it when I was a kid but now I realize that it follows people who’ve seen it before. I believe it’s Spiritual Being and it can choose to show itself or not. Elaine looks like a few of my Aunties who I don’t get to see that often and even some family members who have recently passed…I miss them so much. I appreciate seeing and hearing her experience. 🙋🏻♀️🤍👍🏽 I’m sharing this with all the doubters.

She's adorable! And truthful!
Great interview. We often hear how people grow up hearing about Bigfoot, but don't necessarily think they'll actually ever have an encounter with one. As for the tracks ending, the same thing can be said for humans. There's tons of stories of manhunts, or search and rescues, where they simply lose the trail of someone because the tracks end, or the dogs even lose the scent at a particular spot.

Im one of them.I grew up Hearing Stories from my uncle Jerry Crew. Years later i and 3 others had a close up, undeniable experience . I think i handled it better mentally than the others, because i had been somewhat conditioned to the idea. 1 of the others had to undergo counseling for it.

@@AFloridaSon Yes sir. The Man himself. My Cousin { His daughter} has the cast to prove it.. I had my encounter after He had Passed. He would have been Elated at my Experience. I later did Interviews with People who had undeniable encounters. Not to Document but rather to let them release their stories, without fear of ridicule. I think that having Jerry helped break the ice with many, who would otherwise not have relinquished their stories. Contrary to Popular belief, not all who have undeniable encounters, see it as a cool or positive thing and would just assume it never happened and do not seek recognition for them. Yes, i have heard accounts that you will NEVER hear in the News.
I love her sense of humor!

Elaine! You are fabulous! Much honor I send you as a beautiful Native American! ❤
Thanks for these wonderful reminiscences. It’s a treat to hear you talk more than the nearly silent receptionist you played on Northern Exposure. I heard him beating his sticks together once. I believe you.
Thank you for sharing !
God bless, Elaine ! I certainly loved your work on Northern Exposure. What a beautiful person with a lovely sou.l Thank you very much for sharing your accounts with us !
Absolutely a gem of a woman. Love to hear her talk
Thank you for sharing.

Blessings & much love to you Elaine.
Loved your character on Northern Exposure!!! I'm a senior BF armchair researcher and live 1 hr North of Fouke, AR. Hunters around here hear BF in the woods..they're not nice in East Texas (BF). Thank you for sharing this with everyone. "What do YOU think BF is?"
Thank you Elaine! When I saw you on The last of us, I almost teared up because you took me back to my childhood. Also because it was like seeing an old friend that's doing well and still with us. ❤
I am elated to see Northern Exposure series back! And getting the chance to thank Elaine again for starring in a TV spot to help Childhaven by publicising the lunch delivery fundraising event in Seattle in the early 90's. She even set up a tour for me of the movie set for the inside segments. Love her unique acting role & her giving heart!
She's so interesting, I love her. I could listen to her stories for hours. I loved hearing about her grandmother. I was raised in South Dakota, and my grandma also told me to cover the windows before it got dark. It made her feel uneasy to have them open at night.
WOW! What a treat, loved you in N.E. and you've aged beautifully, your heart shines more than ever, no suprise you know our elder brothers! 💝
Yes they do exist. They disappear. I had one walk by me. We could hear the footsteps but it was invisible. Both of us heard it and the grass moved and the ground shook.. This was during a Reiki a attunement by a river. They are real. I wish people would respect them and leave them alone. Leaving gifts is good, like the berries or a pretty rock. Aho
A-ho, Elaine! Haha I am also electromagnetically sensitized and lights flicker, electronic equipment fails when I am around. I used to be a singer and I would pitch my recording engineer into a tizzy every time I entered the studio LOL. Wrist watches won't work on me, either. I live in Oregon also and have had many encounters with the Forest People (well, I live in Siuslaw National Forest, so that is what I call them, even though they live in all environments) I just happen to be re-watching Northern Exposure right now. The series is like comfort food for me. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Best to you and yours
I love this interview. Such a lovely lady.
I remember Elaine from Northern Exposure, that was such a great show! Thank you for sharing your story!
Ms. Miles was so goooood in _Northern Exposure!!_ Her characterization was so fun to watch because she had a twinkle of humor that she could turn up or down, just lovely!
Elaine is wonderful. I saw her weekly on Northern exposure and thought she was the best part of a wonderful show. Also saw Smoke Signals several times. I really liked attending the International Indian Film festival pow wow when she was pow wow princess and she nd her mom competed in the dance competition. She is a terrific jingle or shawl dancer and a heck of a character actress. I'd like to see more of her in the present.
Oh man what a treat to see a great lady again . I love her energy and always have.
My goodness she sounds like my Aunties that have passed😥 She is a gift!
Thank you. ELAINE is wonderful❤🕊
