In my opinion Leone's best. Funny, sad, & action packed; & Morricone's music makes it even more poignant.... very emotional movie & soundtrack. 😌

His other films get a lot of attention for good reasons, but this one should get more recognition. Such a filling story, much like GBU you really feel like you've been on the journey with its characters, and those long close-up shots of Rod Steiger's face after he finds his family slain inside the cave is so full of emotion and was a great of making you empathize with him. Definitely James Coburn's best and most unique film he was involved in as well. I'd take this "anti-western" over any of the others that came out around that time, Monte Walsh, Peckinpah westerns, they're still good, but nothing beats Leone's seductive and organic way of taking things slow.
