I love that more millennials are having these discussions around money. The previous generations really tried to set us up for failure with their houses crisis, economic recessions, lack of livable wages, housing, and healthcare. BUT millennials we will continue to thrive. Love that creators are learning, growing and sharing their perspectives on money, side jobs and career.

yes!! + to add, i can see our generation moving towards employment & wage transparency. at work a while ago i once asked why someone the same age and experience as me was on a higher pay rate (a convo between me and him and we're both young), the immediate response was 'well youre not supposed to be talking about that'- it fosters an unhealthy environment and only encourages pay inequality. excited for the future of us not giving a fuck ! props to damon for educating us, so thankful

“Why don’t we just simplify the law so everyone can understand” the laws are not always black and white since nuance is how people/corporations win cases and set the standard for cases after that. This both can work for us and against us. But I get what you’re saying. The poor don’t have access to lawyers usually and therefore are extremely vulnerable.

1:01:10 credit card companies charge stores transaction fees when a customer uses their credit card. So even if you pay it off every month, you’re still making the credit card company money! That’s how you earn cash back and points. It also raises the prices of goods & services which negatively impact people who mostly only pay in cash because they’re not reaping the benefits of cash back/points. It’s all a game 😫

So indeed cheers to the wisdom that comes with the years.

@@Akki-kz9jvthere is nothing to be dreaded! The only thing that changes is the number! You, on the other hand, will keep on being that same person, just with 30 years of experience, which is definitely more than 22 or 27 or whatever. The 20s were great and fun and we got to figure out a lot of shit, but now in the 30s is the time we learn to fully love who we are, make time for ourselves, our interests, say "fck you" to the standards that don't suit us, and come to the utter point of comfort with ourselves. I don't think I've ever loved myself as much as I do now, and instead of confusion about life and where I'm headed, I'm finally feeling relaxed and with a clear mind, and a solid focus towards the future. It's gonna be a great time ahead!

Once you reach your definition of success, it make no more sense to chase money and keep making other people richer. Invest in yourself and your future.

So much great ~not financial advice~ in this! Since your audience is mostly young people, I would just add that everyone should really do their research on both sides of the issue before investing in something unregulated like crypto. I totally agree about the potential of the underlying technology, but unfortunately the current landscape is much closer to investing in an MLM. A good rule of thumb: don't invest in crypto (or anything!) just because your favorite KZreadr, actor, or tech billionaire says it's a good idea. Stipulated, everyone can and should do whatever they want with their money, but be smart and keep your head on a swivel.

Damon! You asked at the end why we follow you and I was thinking right before that (coincidentally) about how important channels like yours are to my sanity. Yes, your channel is entertaining and your personality keeps us coming back for more. Of course. Your channel is great in general. But in my opinion, it's so important that I watch videos of people traveling and following their dreams abroad in order to stay motivated, inspired, and frankly to feel less alone. I've done a lot of traveling in my life and agree with the sentiment that you can just be happy somewhere in the world on a $10 bus. Not everyone feels this way and it can be really hard to connect with people who share this mentality, especially depending on where you live. Any time I return to the States, I realize that I've gone from being surrounded by people who understand me to being surrounded by people who have given up trying to see things from my perspective at all (or who never bothered to even try in the first place). Watching videos like yours helps me remember that I'm not alone and that there are people out there with similar values. So, thank you for sharing your experiences with us. You're able to provide a bigger sense of community, which I would consider invaluable. Very grateful for your channel! P.S. After the past two years of staying home, I'm excited to be taking a month-long trip to Brussels and to start feeling like myself again. I feel out of place without travel, so again, thank you for helping to fill that void recently!

I’m a long time subscriber and I’ve always loved your videos because I think you’re hilarious and your lifestyle and way of thinking is super inspirational but holy crap I appreciate this video so much!! I was very much born into (relative, California) poverty wherein there is no generational wealth that I know I can depend on (I.e., I’ve never lived in a house and both of my parental figures are honestly not the best with money). I’ve never had someone in my life who knew enough about money to help me get ahead either so it’s been really hard for me as I’m trying to become financially stable in hopes of eventually creating generational wealth for my future kids and grandkids etc.. that being said, I’ve tried watching the finance bros on KZread talk about all the stuff you were talking about in this video and it straight up goes right over my head. They never simplify the concepts and always use that finance jargon that really only makes sense to people who have some sort of grasp on the topic already. This video was super helpful while still being engaging and entertaining, and I learned so much from it! Thank you so so so much and I hope to see more content like this going forward, not just from you but from other creators as well.

Hey Damon, thanks a lot for making this video! I can imagine how much time and research must have gone into it but it'll be very valuable to many people! When I saw your video I got super excited because I'm also living in France and everything I read usually explains it for Americans and I was hoping you'd also give some specific tips for expats living in France. But this video is also a bit like that so I was wondering if you could do another video on France specific finance topics such as which platform is better, what are some other investment options here, how are we getting taxed on investments in France, etc. There is really not much content on this and I think it'd be super useful specifically for your audience. If you ever decide to make it, know that at least one of your followers is really looking forward to it!

Yo, Damon - this was so clear and concise and easy to understand and now I'm ready to open a brokerage account and learn more about how to invest. Lowkey gave me confidence to get started because it's not from scratch. Really appreciate you taking the time to make this video.

This approach was much needed thank you!! (I don't know if it was you admitting that none of it makes sense or the laughing that made me feel so comfortable.. probably just hearing it from you) Also cleaned out my entire closet and dresser while still taking the majority of this in, I am perplexed.

Damn this was an amazing video. And this is why I follow you Damon! No BS and I just love your creative mindset. You’re also unique- you don’t follow the trends or what’s popular. I also live vicariously thru your travels haha. My philosophy on money is that it comes and goes, so like you, I get we need it but I try not to be obsessed with it; it won’t follow us to the grave. You really have to figure out what you value in life, and for me that would be experiences. I’ve watched several financial vids and as an American, you’ve just taught me that the tax code is so arbitrary 🤦🏻‍♀️ as in everything in the US it seems… best to learn and stay ahead of what may come. Anyway, I’m not a huge risk taker and I’m lazy, so this is what I’d do: 1. Save for emergency fund 2. Invest in mutual fund or ETF 3. Retirement- get a Roth IRA 4. Get real estate- own some properties (own homes, stop paying rent) 5. Check out crypto currency 6. If you have small-moderate student loans, there is talk about Biden waiving 10k. Don’t know if that will happen but since loans are in deferment period, I’d not invest in paying back right away. If you have a huge sum to pay back, talk w the loan company about repayment plan and I believe they can make “affordable” monthly payments with you. But again, I’d do other things listed first than pay this back right away. If anyone has advice about crypto, lmk?! That’s a whole new world to me.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was not raised with any info on finances and lord am I paying the price. Yes, there are others on YT who cover finances but this is the first relatable, informative, and even interesting video I've found on it. I am overdue for starting my own LLC, have never invested, etc and have now opened a window to look into Charles Schwab. Adding getting a CPA next...

I surely see something in you and I would say that we are very similar in terms of creativity and knowledge (AND HUMOR). You are my favorite channel and I am soooo grateful for stumbling on your channel when i tried to learn french 8 months ago, your "How to learn french" video was grate btw, I love you soo much and would like to meet you someday, take care!🥰🌟

It’s not so much “gambling” if you invest in portfolios that have been diversified enough to lower the risk. Because when you combine high and low risk assets, in different market situations they balance each other out (Ex. S&P 500)

The problem is that the riskier the asset the higher the potential gain and the lower the risk the less you’ll gain. Still gambling imo

When finance people discuss “time in the market” and compounding interest the time horizon is greater than 10 years. It’s about ensuring you have enough money by retirement you need to look at it around 30 years. That’s when the compounding truly takes off and the amount of money you earn is significant. If you’re just looking at for the short term then yes it is not substantial The most valuable tool a young person has is time. Start investing now so that your retirement is secure.
