A Few Scary Moments of my BetaFPV Aquila16

I received the RTF and BNF versions of BetaFPV Aquila16 a few days ago. When I took it out for an outdoor flight, perhaps due to wind (actually breeze) and/or low battery power, I experienced a few very scary moments during the flight. I was using the normal (or angle) and fast mode, in which this strange behavior should not happen.

I would add the following: The Aquila16 copter is designed only for the BETAFPV Configurator and for the remote controller that comes in the kit, which means that if someone has another remote controller with ELRS, then you won’t be able to customize the copter for yourself in Betaflight and therefore not all modes will work. More over, it does not work with AMD processor, so it can not be connected to PC with AMD one. There is no boozer, the search for a copter is in question. For an apartment, you can’t turn off the air mode, it will stick to the walls and fall where you will disarm it in order to unstuck. There is also regular self-disarming, i.e. turns off whenever it wants. The camera quality is very poor even for an analogue one. The battery is detached when the copter falls or hits an obstacle. The design is beautiful, but the quality is not good and unfinished. If to buy it then only as a kit, why would I need the kit if I have good glasses and RC. I just bought a copter and got these unexpected troubles. I don’t see the point in paying such money for that.

Well, I used a Dell PC and a MacBook 16" MacBook Pro M1 Max to configure my Aquila 16; but, I don't have any problems in using BetaFlight 4.x to configure my BetaFPV FPV drone with my RadioMaster Zorro. What I really needed was: (1) arming and (2) modes. My Zorro has been working fine with my Aquila16 which is a BNF version. If BetaFPV is making a BNF version that can only be working with the BetaFPV Configurator, BetaFPV could be in big trouble as FPV fliers may not have any radios from BetaFPV. Am I right? Maybe not 100%; but I am sure, based on my experience using BetaFPV drones with BetaFPV Configurator, that BetaFPV Configurator IMO is not a good tool compared with BetaFlight V4.x.

Hello, i recently heard about disarming during flight. Others say that problem is in the drone controller. Do you have this problem?

None. I used RadioMaster 12 ELRS MK II, RadioMaster 16 TX ELRS Mk II and Zorro. I have never encountered the problem you mentioned. My Aquila 16 is a BNF version. Therefore, I did not test it with the stock RTF radio LiteRadio 3 ELRS. Both (i.e., drone controller and the onboard controller) could be the cause. However, I used RadioMaster radios exclusively and I never had this problem.

Well, these are cheap analog cameras. The newer digital versions of many FPV models are using DJI's O3 air-unit and the results are really good but they are still not as good as those taken with top DJI camera drones such as Mavic 3 and Mavic Air. Well, IMO even the old Mini 2 can deliver as good or even better results. Note that FPV camera has Gimbal control. Just hope the building camera of a top FPV could have a better image quality. I really don't want to mount a GoPro on it.

That is not Angle mode, "Normal" mode means it should hover by itself using barometer and positional flow. That is why they state quite clearly in the instructions not to fly over 3 meters (or something like that), cause those assist systems would fail over that altitude.

In this case, when the drone is flying high enough the drone IS in the angle mode because the stability control is not5 functioning properly. Additionally, when a drone with this kind of stability control is flying over a nearly textureless ground the stability control is basically not very useful.
