A Few Minutes With a Giant Pacific Octopus at the Monterey Bay Aquarium 🐙♥️
Just hanging out for a little bit with a cutethulhu at the Aquarium 🐙♥️♥️♥️ The largest of the octopuses, giant Pacific octopuses-or GPOs-live in deep, cold water here in Monterey Bay. Further north along the coasts of Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alaska, they’re more common in shallow water-and even in the intertidal.
Staff spend several hours every day interacting with these animals, taking care of their physical and mental health with various puzzles and enrichments. We have an Octopus 101 playlist if you want to check it out. Enjoy!

Cephalopod love forever
Definitely one of my all time favorite exhibits at the aquarium!
What an amazing creature! I love how it gracefully glides with such agility along the walls of the tank!
Netflix has a documentary called My Octopus Teacher. I highly recommend it.
I have tears streaming down my face. Thank you so much for posting this. Octopuses are by far my favorite marine creatures (don't tell the otters!) and I guess I just really needed this today.

@@blueeyes6852 I completely forgot about this. I left this comment when I was trying to get my little girl and I out of a very unsafe and abusive living situation, that was a horrible year. Things are still hard, but we are safer and working toward being entirely free. Thank you. 💜
I can feel the intelligence from him. Through my phone❤🐙
How majestic.
Enchanting presentation. Knowing how intelligent they are. You ever wonder what their thinking?👍🐙🐙🐙👍
Yay, my favorite animal, thank you!!
Absolutely, stunningly, beautiful! Such grace, intelligence, and gorgeous movement. Lovely video, thank you for sharing. ❤️🐙❤️

Amazing, graceful, beautiful! I love this!
Thank you for letting us into this magnificent world!
I liked when camera man zoomed up to the octopus' eyes. You can see the intelligence in those eyes. 💝 I am curious, how you keep the octopus' in the tank? 🤔

Wow😮😮
Those eyes just speak otherworldly and intelligence to me, no way these things are from earth
i think it's adorable how octopus will flop their arms over everything just to take in sensory information like "da heck is THIS?! da heck is THAT?!"
I have been lost for hours looking at this exhibit at the aquarium and its magnificent inhabitant. I am in pure awe and love with octopuses. 🌅
They must look funny as babies.
Amazing thank you.
I would love to see a tour of the tenticles exhibit (and some cheeky peeks backstage). I adore cephalopods, but alas being in England I'll never get to see the MBA exhibit.
Sweet giant octopus
thank you
Happy Cephalopod Week!

what a truly magnificent creature!
what a gorgeous animal! it looks so healthy, you can tell he's getting the best of care! i'd love to be able to visit monterey bay aquarium some day, especially with that new deep sea exhibit coming soon!
They are so cool
Beautiful ❤
I was recently there, I saw some female octopus taking care of her eggs, can you please upload or tell something about her? 😭 even though they have a very short lifespan I was just amazed and sad to see, probably, her last weeks… I read somewhere that other octopuses have survived after mating in captivity. I would love to have a follow up about her.
I love this, and I love you. Can we get a permanent live Octo-cam for Chrismas? Hannukah? Solstice? The fact that we're all in lockdown? Please?

The music triggered my PlayStation 3 vibe.
What a majestic creature, we are not worthy of it as a species. Can't know for sure, but I would guess that our 8 legged friend here would rather be in open waters. Zoos and aquariums seem a bit archaic.

Well... Maybe stay for a few weeks but should be trained to live in the wild first.
How many arms does an octopus have and which area is the octopus mouth
@fubberpish3614
2 жыл бұрын
they have six arms and two legs! all the tentacles are the same in anatomy (except in males, where one is modified into a hectocotylus, an organ used for sperm transfer during mating), but the front six are mostly used for manipulating objects and are as such classed as arms, and the back two are mostly used for locomotion and are therefore legs. the mouth is located on the octopus' underside, in the middle of all the tentacles. it is usually kept hidden, but it has a hard beak, much like a parrot's, which it uses to crunch through the hard shell of it's prey, mostly crustaceans and bivalves, although they will also eat fish if they can catch them. the beak is the only hard part in the octopus' entire body!

The beak is located in the center between all of those suckers. It resembles an upside down parrot’s beak

does he though? i dunno about you but having a steady supply of food, medical care and no predators sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me compared to the wild. and trust me, knowing monterey bay aquarium, that octopus is receiving only the best of care

Yes, a stint in the slammer sounds delightful to me as well. It’s a wild animal. Freedom is paramount.
A little sad the octopus exhibit changed 😔
:D
Why does this sound like PlayStation 4 music
Maybe it's yearning and begging you to get out and be free in the wild. I hope it is not caged in a tank. It wants to be free.

@fubberpish3614

but does it really want to be free? i would imagine it would have a better quality of life at monterey bay aquarium, where it wouldn't go hungry, doesn't have to worry about predators and can be treated if it gets sick. the tank may seem small, but octopuses in the wild dont stray far from their dens unless they absolutely have to - its dangerous out there, especially for an octopus with a soft, unprotected body and plenty of things that would just love octopus for dinner. i don't know about you, but getting expert care at the aquarium sounds like a great gig compared to the wild. and knowing monterey bay aquarium, that octopus would be receiving only the best care.
This enclosure isn’t even the right size for it octopuses are really intelligent animals and it literally is trying to break out that’s why it’s so close to the glass.😞
@fubberpish3614

this tank is perfectly adequate for a Giant Pacific Octopus. they don't need as much space as you would think, as wild octopuses don't stray far from the safety of their den unless they have to, such as to find food or a mate

I don't think this octopus or any octopus should be in such a small tank- he knows hes captive.
@fubberpish3614

that tank is perfectly adequate for a Giant Pacific Octopus, they don't need as much space as you would think. in the wild, octopus rarely stray from their dens other to find food, but in an aquarium where they don't have to go far for their food, they don't have any reason to wander further. knowing monterey bay aquarium, i can assure you this octopus is receiving only the best of care. as for the octopus knowing it's captive - it absolutely does. theyre definitely smart enough to know that they're not in the ocean. but does it care? does it want to go to the ocean? i would imagine not. at monterey bay aquarium the octopus is receiving expert care, a steady supply of food, can be treated if it gets injured or sick, and does not have to fear predators. i would guess it's perfectly content there.
