A European getaway to..... Tianjin?

SAVE MONEY ON FLIGHTS TO EUROPE! Go to Tianjin instead. Due to its history as a former foreign concession port, Tianjin has a huge European flavour. Walking through Tianjin, you won't believe you are in China. It also does a kick-ass breakfast, just another reason to give Tianjin a go.

Long ago, I was born in the Italian concession also, lived in the British concession and went to school in the French. All different now, (even the name) but vivid memories remain. Especially the street food. You can take the boy out of Tientsin, but not Tientsin out of the boy. Thanks for the update.

And this place is my hometown :) I’m really glad people discover my city and are fascinated. In fact, I’m fascinated too. In these 9 years I’ve spent living in another place, a lot has happened in Tianjin and so many things have changed. But the same feeling of my belonging to this city can never change.

There was even a Belgian concession in Tianjin (given as part of the Treaty In The Year Of Xin-Chou of 1901; 11 countries got goodies out of China, the 8 nations that officially invaded in 1900, plus Belgium, Spain, and The Netherlands), so if the Tintin story The Blue Lotus had taken place in Tianjin instead of in Shanghai, Tintin might have been able to claim sanctuary there in a crucial moment instead of having the Japanese and European villains all on his back. xD

@@BlondieinChina Like Ear-hole fried cake (erduoyan zhagao, or 耳朵眼炸糕 in Chinese), Tangdui (which is made of Hawthron, 糖堆儿 in Chinese), Changtang, etc. These are snacks, while for breakfast, you can also try guobacai (锅巴菜), zhajuanquan (炸卷圈), doufunao (豆腐脑). For lunch or dinner, some good examples are Halal food (like beef noodle soup), shrimp with fried dough (dumianjin, or 独面筋), laobaosan (老爆三), etc.

Hi Blondie, The sound of the food cart reminds me of the ultrasonic cleaner we use to clean musical instruments. It looks like there is an ultrasonic motor that pacts the rice in a special way as he places the cups on top of the surface. A very neat method!! Just my guess. Great video! I will be in Tianjin to visit my wife this weekend! Will have to show her your video and try the food. Thanks for posting!!!

Yea it's a supersonic vibrating table. It vibrates faster than sounds can travel. It's used so the rice grains can't be pushed away from each other so they can be packed tightly together.

I have been in Tianjin in Two Different times. Studied Chinese Language for One year in this city at the mouth of Bohai. Presented my countries name on the walls of its Natura History Museum, "The cradle of mankind" Ethiopia! Tianjin is Simply Nice to me.
