Wish to God I could live in a town like this back in the 50s 60s or even 70s b4 life became what it is today. I miss payphones and prayers/ pledge of allegiance in school and nice simple people. Cell phones ruined us/ and kids ,Wish I had a time machine. Keep up the videos donnie great work!

I love this video. My family left Middlesboro in 1956. I have so many great memories of the town. A lot of stores I don't recognize but the Sports Center, Coca Cola plant, Sterchi's and a lot of stores bring back happy memories. I still have furniture which came from Sterchi's. My parents left it to me. If I remember right we lived on 10th street. The house is now gone.

Thank you so much for this. It brings back a lot of memories. My Mamaw and Papaw Partin would go across Fonde mountain and trade in Middlesboro. I remember going to Sterchies,Watkins and Piggly Wiggly.I just love seeing those beautiful old buildings.

I love this trip down memory lane. Middlesboro was always a stop on my families trips from Ohio to Hancock Co Tennessee. This is the “big city” my grandparents traveled to for shopping and doctor visits. I was the FedEx man for Middlesboro from 1988-1995. My favorite town

Thanks Donnie. I was born in Middlesboro but like so many people we moved north for work. We moved back a couple of times when things got bad. Thank God for grandparents. I don't get back very often.

Awesome! Wish we lived in slower, simpler times. Now we have traffic jams, multiple deadlines every day, too many passwords (and numbers in general) to remember, and kids aren't as safe outdoors as they were back then. People respected God, the police, and each other way more.

I was born in Middlesboro KY. My family is from here. My grandfather Moss Dalton was a minister and carpenter on my father's side. My mom's dad John Dorton was employed at a machinery company. We lived there many years. My grandmother was Stella Dorton. My aunts and uncle attended High School here. Homer Dorton, Priscilla Dorton and my mom Wilma Dorton who later married Will Dalton. ❤️🛐🙏🤗

In America there may be areas of different accents, a bit different tastes in food, a little different dress style, music etc... but some things are the same all over America... The buildings, the old theaters, the mom n pop or frnchice eateries, grocery stores and gas stations, neighborhoods, parks etc.. I'm from the N but watching this was like stepping back in time in a city near me. "America.... One Nation...Indivisible.". :-)

Towards the end of the presentation you show the inside of a building and you're calling at the Sports Center that is not the Sports Center. The sports center was next door and much smaller. That is Perry and Pope drugstore. My dad was a pharmacist there. They had a fountain there. When this picture was taken it was before they got rid of the booth seats. The flat glass back wall is where the pharmacist work they came out to their left. Which would be to your right. I recognize it because of the tiles that are on the floor the two heaters that are up in the ceiling the way the fountain is built which never changed and where the pharmacist area was. And yes I would love to see more films on this town because Middlesboro is where I was born in 1953 and I live there till 1968.

My family grew up there. My grandfather owned a store on Main Street and my dad and his 8 brothers and sisters grew up there during the great depression

@@donnielaws7020 Dept store. They lost in the depression but the building is still there it's next to a steakhouse or across an alley from the steakhouse. I still have relatives there still with the last name of Paynter. It's odd that you have Clancy's hamburgers there is that chain was started by a family in Noblesville where I grew up in Indiana. On a final note if you wanna hear a great song it's called Cumberland Gap and it's written by David Rawlings. There's a good video here on KZread if you want to check it out

Donnie, I love looking at your old photos. They make me remember something my grandfather used to tell when I was in grade school prior to his death. I am curious if you have ever heard it and know the full story and maybe its origin. The story went: A great big little old nothing at all came rumbling and tumbling down over the wall. Its head was green , its eyes were yellow, its legs were sky blue it was a jolly young fellow. That is all that I can remember of the story. My dad henry pennington was born an raised in east tennessee. An i miss the old stories he used to tell old pea head johnson was one of the stories he was forced to come to indiana to work back in the forties i believe oh an how he wanted to go back to those mountains he raised he family in indiana an he did not want to be in this hoosier state but he couldnt leave his family. So sad he always if us boys were smart we would leave this dam indiana an go to tennessee. Now that im grown i know now he was right. He had five of us no account boys. I wish i would of listened to him. He end up being buried in indiana. So sad he wanted to go back home.

I lived in Middlesboro for a short time in 1986 or so, and I worked at a place called Southfork diner in Tazewell. I drove through a while back- and I think the road is gone! Southfork was on highway 25e in Tazewell, and my drive to work was beautiful! Has it (Southfork diner) been torn down? Anyone know? I met some super nice people while I was there.

This is the ice company where Grandad bought 6'x3'x 12" blocks of ice for his shop in Cumberland Gap. My brother and I rode in the truck bed across The Cumberland Gap, by Cudjo's Cave, into Middlesboro with Grandad to this place. It was on Cumberland Ave, past the railroad tressle. At spot 8:20 is J.C.Penney's where Mom bought our shoes & clothes. In the center of the intersection was a water fountain -- that's why the stores had curved fronts to park in front of the stores. At point 9:44, Park Theatre, is where my Dad and his 2 brothers would walk thru the 1897 tunnel to Middlesboro to visit family & see a movie. Do you have anything from 1950's & 1960's?

In your wildlife video i forgot to say God bless your family too. I grew up in Bell County in the 1970's. I lived in Middlesboro in 1983/84 in a little camping trailer on North 10th Street. I think it might be called Jackson Cemetery Road now, if I'm following Google maps correctly. I worked on a construction site that became Bella Gardens apartments, then I worked at Long John Silver's, then Burger King. Middlesboro is in my blood. Back in the 1970's when I was a little kid, I was sent to Clancy's to get food and I was so dumb I walked to the drive thru lane behind a car. The girl working the drive thru window stuck her head out and told me to get out of there and walk inside to order the food. Back then you could always smell that goddam tannery, it stunk so bad. I see your name is Donnie Laws, and I think I remember someone from my childhood back then named Wilma Lena Laws. does that name ring a bell for you?
