I’d say that the fact that they were only asking $250 for her was another red flag people could watch for. Reputable breeders have a lot of costs that are passed on to the customer. No way could they afford to sell puppies for so cheap.

In fairness, you're NEVER going to find a "doodle" breeder that is reputable. Mixing breeds solely for the purpose of making money is not something a reputable breeder would do. Your best bet is to get a purebred poodle. Go to a dog show and meet good, honest breeders.

Every breed ever created responsibly was done by a single person, or that person and a few very close confidantes. Modern poodle crosses lost that advantage long ago! Now, people all over the world are breeding them, none of which know what they're doing and none have the same goal in mind as the original creator had.

Most people who have created separate breeds did so alone, or with a very few close confidantes. They did not reveal it to the whole world, and did not sell any intact puppies to strangers. We had a shocking experience with the DNA test as well. Our Truman is a rescue pup. The shelter received the mother (a standard poodle) with her 10 pups and Truman was the runt. They were told by the owner that the father was a labradoodle. That would make Truman an Fb2 labradoodle. For fun we did the Embark DNA test. Results? Truman is 95% poodle and…5%(!) GERMAN SHEPHERD!!!!! What the heck?! No Labrador retriever!! Funny thing is that I just did my human DNA test. I am a second generation American who’s maternal grandparents immigrated from Norway. My father’s family supposedly came from Danish/Swedish stock. My DNA shocker? I’m 42% German, 15% British, 5% Italian, 5% Norwegian and some Spanish and Filipino to boot!

I’m a dog groomer and I once had a client call asking to get their “golden retriever lab mix” in for a bath and brush out. I said not a problem and got the appointment all setup, come time, in walks this GIANT malamute! I was so confused and thought this was a separate dog, I asked and she said “nope, this is the dog I was talking about”… what!?? Come to find out it was her sons dog and she’s never owned a dog before but she’s taking care of him while her sons in the army, but still! The only leeway I could give her is that the malamute is a light brown color, but other than that he looks EXACTLY like a malamute! I did let her know that he was actually a malamute and not a golden retriever and she was very sweet about the whole thing, but yeah when it comes to grooming a golden and a malamute are NOT the same!!

My breeder would not let me visit due to COVID and said that Parvo was a huge problem .. I don’t think people pass Parvo to dogs. ? 😏 She did provide genetic testing paperwork on the parents and grandparents. I thought I was buying from a smallish breeder but after getting him realized she was cranking out the puppies, Though she did have several mom dogs and one Moyen Poodle was the sire to all. The puppy was delivered pretty dirty and the initial date that I was supposed to get him was pushed back because he was one of four puppies that got ringworm. 😐 she kept him for a little over two weeks longer ( so 10 weeks) and was aggressively treating it with topical and oral. Then found out that she also bred and sold Savannah cats

I sent in my embark dna test for my newfypoo today...i bought Kona, my newfypoo on-line....i was shown a picture of a newfoundland (brown and white landseer? ) and a buttery/brown standard poodle...Kona has hazel eyes, cow spots on his legs, a white belt around his hips and the infamous white goatee under his chin...so, he has all the signs of a newfypoo...he was only $800 because one of his balls didn't drop? the breeder said, (my vet said he definitly had both his balls in the right place) i don't want to name the breeders in case they are legit, but i was told they were an amish puppy mill :( I bought the test because when i tried to contact the breeder early on after I adopted Kona, he wouldn't answer me...later I figured it was probably a burner phone because aren't Amish people suppose to reject new technology? like cars, phones, etc? RED FLAG!!!!! duh?......and when i tried to look up his parents again on-line for my vet because newfypoos are not even a thing in sarasota, fl... the website was gone...ugh...so, don't beat yourself up....i bought a pup on-line from a person in a religious group who disavows technology....i know because i have to yield to them on their tricycles everyday when i take Kona to the dog park twice a day
