A DOGS DESTINY- The Golden Retriever

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Everything you need to know about the Golden Retriever! I filmed this pilot for a TV network about 3 years ago. The idea was, instead of a dog training show. How about I educate people on specific breeds and what they're actually supposed to be doing. I waited a long time to put this out, I hope you like it :)!

@Dominic Bommarito In addition to amazing information Tom graciously shares I also follow The Rotty Channel. They have 4 Rotties, ages 6 months to 6 years, and share good info from an owners pov. Lots of what I have gained from both channels can be applied to specific breeds and also strong breed dogs in general. I have rescued pitties for years and recently rescued a husky/pit mix. I thought being a dog owner my whole life and having pitties for 15+ years I could handle any breed but my husky/pit mix is a whole new learning experience. Best of luck with your pup!!!

preach it. i knew exactly what i was doing when i got a malinois, and i still think it's a lot. I pity the fool who gets a high drive dog and doesn't know / want training with it. I train every day with mine, and she loves it. She never has enough.

Yeah most places are so money hungry they only want people like cesser Millan who mentally and physically abuses the dogs to get them to listen out of fear and putting the dog in situations it can't handle with no knowledge just horrifying corrections.

We have a Golden Retriever, and she's been the best dog I've ever had or known. We live on a farm and actually she just kind of adopted being a guardian dog. She's killed several things now to keep her baby's safe. When it's time for bed for her ducks and chickens, she comes back inside. I was surprised that she just knew to bring her kills to me. Her breeder did not breed her dogs for sport like this, so no prior training. She just, is a very smart and sweet dog!

This is like my dream docu series. Please make more!!! How cool would it be to have the same concept applied to a livestock gardian breed, a heeler, a shepherd (border collies but also other types of herding!) or other types of hunting dogs like pointers, flushers or blood trackers (please make one on the standard wire haired dachshund!). You could even do some on sled dogs, like the dogs that run the Iditarod. So many people get huskies for their looks without knowing much about what incredible things the breed can do. I love learning about what jobs popular breeds were bred to do and people really need to learn more about this.

You gotta revive this series!! very cool to see a dog doing what hey love best and to understand what they need as far as exercise and "work" to do especially if they are going to be pets and you understand what they need in order to be happy and a successful relationship and less dogs end up in shelters if people know what type of dog they have and what is required of them to maintain a healthy dog physically and mentally.

I would binge this show over and over. As a relatively new dog trainer working on continuing my education and slowly building a small business in the field, I'm always looking for stuff just like this to show people and supplement my own training program so people can understand their dogs better. I'd absolutely love to see an episode on Staffordshire Terriers and other pittie breeds.

I get those comment a lot, "why does your dog has to do something for you" , "why can't you just let him be a dog" my answer is always "to prevent my dog for getting bored and distructive and live his live with full potential, dog's are bred to work and they even love it and it's all play and learn to them" Most people will never get it, even iff i answer that.

I love this idea because so many people don't understand how much work goes into a hunting dog and how much work a hunting dog needs on a daily basis. If you do another episode, please do an English Springer Spaniel. I'd like for you to emphasize the huge difference between a bench and a working dog. And while the bench looks different, much of the original breeding remains.

The working and sporting dog breeds have such a rich history, and the Golden Retriever’s is especially so. From Lord Tweedmouth to Tigathoe, and other important kennels of the ‘40’s and ‘50’s that still influence bloodlines today. Field-bred type Golden Retrievers are almost a separate breed now from the show-bred type golden which most people are more familiar with. I’ve had both and they were all lovely and beloved dogs, but not all were retrievers. Our current Topbrass, field-bred girl is into agility and is an awesome frisbee player. It takes a lifetime of dedication and love of the sport to breed and train these dogs. Great, informative pilot, and I think it would be interesting for people to learn more about their own amazing working, hunting, herding, couch companions.

  • @Whoa.Emmaaa

Its so amazing to see this breed doing what it was bred for and not a couch potato! But i also think working/showline splits are important because of this, some people want a more laid back golden (Showline) but still have the retriever, and some need/want a working line thats go-go-go and bred for the hunt. These are some amazing dogs with great working line genetics!

I loved this program. I hope that you can do more like this in the future. I have so much respect for the breeders/ training. They are amazing folks. It takes alot of dedication to train in a Minnesota winter. My husband is an avid pheasant hunter, but retrieves his own foul. He wants a dog for retrieval, but after watching this video I'm not positive we could accomplish that level of training. Well made video!

This was a very powerful video! People get dogs without doing the research and finding out the purpose of the breed. When you take the time to learn the why the breed was created it really makes sense of many behaviors. Dogs need to be doings something they are more like people than you will ever understand. They are living breathing thinking creatures with the need to learn and do something. The more they can learn and do the happier they are. This even applies to breeds like the Chihuahua!

Think I learned about 200 billion things from this and how they train. Truly inspirational, what a brilliant programme. Would be amazing for it to get picked up - why on earth did the network not run with it??!🤦‍♀️

I live in Europe and I have a golden retriever that I love very, very much, but it started to show dominance. With the help of your wonderful videos and the help of a trainer I now have the same lovely dog that I used to and for that I owe you a big THANK YOU! Keep up the good work and please keep helping dog owners! You have won a follower for life! ❤️🙌🏼

Amazing video! I hope you are able to cover more breeds. Really good stuff! We have a Great Pyrenees, an Alaskan Malamute and a Husky. It is so cool to watch their individual breed instincts, and nurture them.

@Veronica Roberts I really enjoy Tom & all the knowledge he shares, as well. I have had dogs my whole life and rescued staffies for the past 15+ years. My most recent rescue is husky/pit mix, Wiley...almost 2 yrs old and he has been incredibly challenging. With you being a fellow strong breed owner and specifically Husky...Do you have any suggestions to better understand and/or train, bond with a Husky? My Husky, Wiley, goes from front door to over 6+foot fence in the blink of an eye and has crazy intense prey drive which I have learned both are normal for the breed. I have gotten creative with keeping him from 'escape' but would love any suggestions you may be able to share. Thanks 😊

Even I'm vegetarian, I loved watching this short film, the little puppies, the effort and love those people put in their work with the dogs. What a sensationell breed the Golden really is! I learned so much about these kind of dogs from this episode, I'm so impressed. Thank you for showing us this film! It was a pleasure to watch 😍🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
