A deserted private island | Sailing to Sanda Island, west coast of Scotland (Ep4)

Join us for a sail from Tarbert, Loch Fyne, to Sanda Island at the south end of the Kintyre peninsula in Scotland. Sanda is privately owned by a Swedish businessman, but access ashore via the beach is allowed, as is a walk across the island to the unique lighthouse. Don't miss this peaceful anchorage, the wonderful wildlife and the magnificent scenery of the Scottish coastline.

Thank you. It's a lovely place - very peaceful, but such an exposed location. $3m and it's yours apparently!

Yeah its definitely worth more than $3 million, I've been to Arran, Skye, Rothesay and Millport this year and gonna do Isle of Mull next but maybe sometime soon would like to try visit the Isle of Sanda, looks so peaceful there👍

The last time I visited Sanda it was still manned. We took the guys a handful of daily papers and some fresh milk which they appreciated.

Great memories. It's a pretty remote spot, so I have no doubt your contribution was appreciated! Such a shame it's no longer open.

Yes, very settled for us, and great to enjoy the surroundings. Well worth a visit. Its a good stop over for rounding the Mull, but I always treat Mull roundings as a bit of a delivery, so we had to make a special trip to go there and stop :)

This might be a dumb question but are you allowed to go onto private property like that? In the US it’s trespassing unless there is an easement just curious how it works in Europe.

Not a dumb question at all - in Scotland there exists a right to roam. You cannot start wandering through private gardens, but open land is just that - open. You do have to adhere to the outdoor access code, which means dogs under control, close gates and so on - in other words responsible access and not total freedom to do as you like.

Thanks, and glad you enjoyed the video. Yes it is a lovely place on a nice day. Water is the problem on the island - no fresh supply and no lochs that I am aware of. The cottages are nice though, but awful bleak on a wet and windy day. Are you in the market for an island then?

@@tarbertsailing I'm afraid Island-buying is not a financial possibility in the near future. But I'm a Scot by blood and would love to travel back one day. I feel the homeland pull.

When Inchmarnock was up for sale, we said that (subject to a lottery win) we would buy it and turn it into a wildlife sanctuary! Anyway, we are still waiting for the lottery win :)

Ai, the odd plants you showed are very dangerous and from amerika. It is a hard plant to remove and very toxic 8:26

We think it is called thorn apple, so that matches with what you mention - from the USA and poisonous. Anyway, we didn't handle them fortunately!
