LYRICS
My momma called me
And said son it’s Nonne
I’m sorry to tell you your grandmama passed
Took me back to the moment
Watchin’ The Sound of Music
In your living room
Before you read me to bed
I know now but I didn’t then
These were moments building a man
None of us had much and you showed me what that means
It was only money
Cost me some family
Cost me some friends
It was only money
Doesn’t define me
I can’t pretend
Taught me ‘bout resentment
About forgiveness
No matter what path lies ahead
Taught me ‘bout judgement
About what love is
That family’s family till the end
It was only money
A few days before that
I got a message from my aunt that said you weren’t doin’ too well
We scrambled to call you to show off the baby
My wife and I had just brought into the world
I got chills as we said goodbye
Somehow I knew it was the last time
I’m usually gone for work
But nothing’s worth missin’ memories
It was only money
Cost me some family
Cost me some friends
It was only money
Doesn’t define me
I can’t pretend
Taught me ‘bout resentment
About forgiveness
No matter what path lies ahead
Taught me ‘bout judgement
About what love is
That family’s family till the end
It was only money
It was only money
If you can hear me
I’ll always picture you at the piano
Singin’ your songs
Just know there’s so many lessons you left me I’ll always carry along
It was only money
Cost me some family
Cost me some friends
It was only money
Doesn’t define me
I can’t pretend
Taught me ‘bout resentment
About forgiveness
No matter what path lies ahead
Taught me ‘bout judgement
About what love is
That family’s family till the end
It was only money
It was only money
It was only money
It was only money
It was only money

I'll be honest, it's not my favourite record but I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy most of whats on this album. I really didn't like this song the first few listens, but then I actually sat and read the lyrics. Jeremy is such a great vocalist. You can't shit on him at all, and going through the other songs jeremys vocals are fucking insane. Might be his best singing performance out of all the albums. That being said, ftwhh, homesick, wsmfy, treason, cc will always be my go to albums. fucking love this band.. adtr forever!

From my understanding the lyrics are going downhill since bad vibrations. Most songs arent well put together. They're lacking in that department definitely. Btw, these songs on this album are too elementary for me. Ight kids, Im out!
"I got chills as we said goodbye, somehow I knew it was the last time"- The day my dad passed away I had just called him 2 hours before it happened. He clung on to my every word, for the longest conversation we had in a while. I didn't know it then but I think he knew it would be our last few words to each other. I miss him everyday and this song just hits me exactly.

Good for Jeremy to put family first and to put so much on hold and just be there when he needs to be. My mom passed last June and I wasn’t able to make it there in time to say goodbye face to face. Kills me, and I wish I just would have taken more vacation time to spend as much time with her as possible, but it’s so easy to get caught up in work and everything else around you. Always make time for your family, and always put them first.

It's been months since this really hit me, but every day that goes by makes it hit that much harder. I had a distant job offer that was going to give me so many opportunities and make my dreams come true, but that's when I found out I had a daughter on the way. I thought about starting the job for a while to still make some money, but this song hit me while I was wrestling with the decision and I stayed.
