Alicante city is a lovely compact place to visit offering lots of history, museums and restaurants, combined with a fantastic beach right next to the city centre. Although we visited in mid September it was still very hot with temperatures in the high twenties so we opted to take the lift up to the castle ruins high on the hill with great views of the city and beach.
