A Day Out At The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre | Air Museum | Tranquil Parks Tour 2020

We have a day out at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at RAF Kirkby. An air museum with a chance to look at some of the things that Jenny's dad would have recognised in his time as a Navigator and Weapons officer with the RAF.
Follow me, my wife Jenny, Poppy, our Westie and sometimes Tara, my sister's Cavaschon. We do Motorhome Reviews, Motorhome Days Out, Help, Hints and Tips on Motorhomes, Motorhome Tours in the UK and Europe, we visit Motorhome Shows, and spend over a third of our year living in a motorhome. In fact all things motorhome!

The year they dropped all the poppy's down the Mall on Remembrance Sunday we saw them fly by that morning then we heard them coming back later that day, We stood like nutters waving like mad as the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane flew by again then suddenly they banked left I thought they were going to the Lincoln field, then they banked again flew real low over the house gave us a winged salute then flew on home. Fantastic! Was surprised they saw us waving made my Mums day and mine to be honest. I have never been to that museum I will be going for sure now. Great video thank you.

i was lucky enough to have a taxi run in just Jane in 2014 and have to say it still remains one the my best memories , i was in the cockpit behind the pilot as he struck up all 4 engines and took us out to the open field , he powered her up for a short run and then back to the runway .i will never forget the sound and feeling of those 4 engines pulling us along , what a huge privilege to sit in one of the few remaining lancasters , i would highly recommend visiting when there is an engine/taxi run , you wont ever be allowed to stand so close to lancaster with all 4 engines running ,awesome -)

Loved the museum visit!! Absolutely fascinating, but sad. I remember when I was a child my dad, who was in charge of organising my Leatherhead school summer fete, got Barnes Wallis (of the bouncing bomb fame) to open the fete. I am still thrilled that he did and I’m 65! The famous Brooklands Museum is nearby, where the airfield and race track were. There’s a Barnes Wallis Way too in Byfleet.

Another interesting visit, thanks. My Dad was still at school when war broke out. After classes in school and then Uni. he was in the home guard. One of his jobs was to guard Edinburgh Zoo, if a bomb hit they were to shoot any dangerous wild animals before the could escape. Luckily it never happened. He then he became Captain in the Artillery and served in several theatres ending up in Berlin and wasn’t demobbed until 1947.

Glad to see you both at East Kirkby Aviation Centre. I am a member of the association who are raising money to get Lancaster "Just Jane" back in flying condition. It's a pity you weren't there when they fire up the engines and taxi her up the runway. She doesn"t fly yet as a certification of air worthiness hasn"t been issued yet but it shouldn't be long which will make her only the 3rd flying example in the world

The Lancaster just taxis up and down the runway with paying passengers, they are fund raising so that it will be a flying Lancaster as the Battle of Britain one is at the moment the only one. We went there last thing before it shut many years ago. We met the two brothers as they we locking up, it was getting dark and it felt so atmospheric, they said they thought they had seen things there. We also went to a VE DAY dance with a full swing band and we danced in period costume under the Lancaster, it was amazing.

oh this video moved us both deeply and I found myself in tears of gratitude to those brave men, when I saw the wreckage of their aircrafts. As a Victory baby, if it wasn't for them I wouldn't have been here. My hubby was born in 1943 and he can remember the sound of the Ack Ack guns from the Royal Artillery Barracks at Kingstanding in Brum, right behind his bedroom window. They had only an tin Anderson shelter, buried in the garden, to run into. My mom told me of the sound of a doodle bug stopping as she ran with my sister in her arms into our shelter. It dropped into the next street over and took out all the homes there. That crater was never filled in. It was years before I knew why there was a hill in that street and not in ours! Did you get more footage of those doodle bugs, hubby caught a glimpse of some inside the hanger. That museum was worth every penny and is a great tribute to the men and women who served and also saved those who did. My dad was in the home guard and did his hours at night, after working a long shift in an engineering factory that made parts for aircrafts. My hubby's dad was unable to serve but taught servicemen how to use grenades and other weapons. These museums are a testament of our history that will be forgotten if not for places like these. Thank you for the footage you recorded, I think I could have spent all day in there.

Hi all , that is really cool we stay on a family run site just across from there , where there is another part to this museum on their site , really cheap electric hook up was only £11 a night , no showers , but has a decent loo waste and water fill up with a wash room and toilet etc. We never saw the museum open has out all day , did see the Vulcans last flight down there though. Some of those relics you saw have been dug up by metal detectorists in the area. We have been celebrating VJ day in honour of my Grand Father in the forgotten army today. :) Stay safe and best wishes

A museum I have always wanted to visit, thanks for posting your trip and sharing it . As has been said in other comments, the Lancaster Just Jane is not airworthy, but can taxi with paying guests. There are only two airworthy Lancasters in the world at the moment, The City of Lincoln operated by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and V Vera operated by the Canadians. In 2014 Vera visited the Uk and both Lancasters performed across the country at numerous airshows, the first time two Lancasters flew together in UK airspace for 50 years.
