A day in the life of a Mencap Support Worker
The Royal Mencap Society employs more than 8,000 people around the UK in permanent jobs, who are mostly Support Workers.
This video shows the day in the life of a Mencap Support Worker.
Take a look. Have you got what it takes to change someone's life?

I'm really exited and looking forward to being part of mencap family.
I work for a different organisation, but doing the same type of work. I'm not trying to 'sell' the job, but I'm definitely trying to encourage people into it. It is rewarding. It is challenging and while it's possible you might not stick with it, you will not regret it. Genuinely being there to help. To support - it's your primary responsibility, and unlike any other job (although you DO need training on what to expect and things like First Aid) the humanity of such a job means you're immediately prepared through being a human being. The support worker in the video sums it up - with his 'bored of the 9-5' patter. It's why I took a job like this. Yeah it's challenging, but honestly, it doesn't always feel like 'a job'.
There are many care companies. Mencap ARE WHOLLY responsible for a nationwide staff paycut after appealing an appeal on sleep over pay rates. Eg a 10 hour sleep used to be £85 app. 11pm - 9am Then 55 then 45.. 2 paycuts through co vid. I lose £400 a month £5k a year...and already on minimum wage. Its sickening. Yoy better getting an agency job nowadays. Agency staff will be on more than a 10 year time served qualified staff member. Shove it mencap

Lovely video! I've just applied for a new role as a Support Worker after 20+ years in corporate customer service, and I'm extremely excited for the change!
