    I've heard people call Mormonism a cult but seeing how devoted they are is more encouraging then anything else. People from all religions can fallow their example and try their best in their religion.

    We sent our first missionary out yesterday and I'm still in MMS (Missionary Mom Shock). I look at the clock and wonder what our son is doing right at that moment in the MTC. This video answers some of those questions. It's an honor to be the parent of such a great young man and I'm excited to watch him grow. Thanks for the video.

    Keep up this great work. I am so proud to be a Latter Day Saint. I am a convert and have not served a Mission. I am so happy to have been given the joy of seeing this video knowing that the 2 missionaries that brought me to the church were and are a part of this.

    I just curiously looked up this video and having had Mormons knock on my door in the past I gotta say they seem like nice people! I've heard bad rumors about Mormons how they just try to brainwash people and stuff but these missionaries seem to be getting in touch with the rest of the world as well and learning communication skills.

    When I was in school,about -78 or so,Some mossionares came to my school and I was so excited because I was(and still am)an Osmond fan,so I listened to everything they said and also went once a week to an evening event that they had,it was fun and they were all so kind and nice and fun to be with. Then they changed the missionares and new once came and it wasn't the same anymore,me and my friends had grown to like them and we didn't want them to go! So we stopped going there😥

    It is admirable that basically teenagers would choose to go and serve the Lord. No choice where they are sent, learn a foreign language, discipline themselves, and grow up. And they aren't paid to do it! Just like Jesus' apostles. It wasn't about the $$$$. Very admirable whether you believe what they do or not.

    1976kempo actually Mormons are Christians. They believe in God the Eternal Father and in His son Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. The name of the church is The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-Day Saints. We believe that Jesus is our Lord & Savior and we cannot return to God without the grace and atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. I'm not sure what silly rumors you've heard but Christians we are! 😊

    cameron, when stating that they believe in Christ, you need to say that they believ Christ to be the Son of God: that's what defines a Christian. Believing Jesus to be the Christ alone does NOT make one a Christian, since even the writings of Islam teach Jesus to be the Christ: but those same writings order you to “chop off” the heads of everyone who believes him to be the son of God

    Can someone explain to me how this works? Do they get a letter with the country they are going to? And do they have to do that? How old are they when they do it? Thanks for the answer :)

  • @cameron_a9116

    @cameron_a9116

    Minimum age is 18 for Elders, 19 for Sisters (although it used to be 19 and 21). It is completely voluntary to serve, and when you show that you have a desire to serve and are considered worthy you receive a letter in the mail that tells you where you go. After that you leave anywhere from 2-6 months since you got your call and start out at a Missionary Training Center for a small amount of time, then are sent out into the field. Hope that answered everything :)

    Maryjane, you are mistaken on the letter part. YES they do get a letter in the mail that tells them where they are going to serve. Perhaps not the exact street address but they know full well several weeks to months ahead of time what country, region and mission district they will serve in.

  • @1959jimbob

    @1959jimbob

    7 жыл бұрын

    Some of the answers Big are incorrect. Yes the Missionary receives a letter in the mail where and when they will be serving. They are not told the exact street addresses where they will live in this letter however. What they are told is the country, region, district and mission area they are being called to serve in. No there is not a commandment that they serve, nor when or where with few exceptions. An example of the exceptions would be the maximum and minimum age that a young man or young woman can serve. There are several types of missions with some lasting 2 years, some 18 months, some 6 months and some that are less than that. Older adult members (typically retired) can serve missions and in fact are encouraged to do so IF health and personal "home life" situations are fluid enough for them to leave their homes for several months at a time. I hope this helps in your understanding...

    Majority of kids this age are out partying in college getting drunk, being irresponsible with promiscuous behavior, acting like fools. Very commendable how the Mormons teach their young people to be so mature, dedicated and responsible. No wonder there are so many people of your faith in the workforce that have a reputation of being so family-minded with integrity.

    1 "Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. 2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: 4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. 5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him." -Matthew 6:1-8

    When an individual decides to serve a mission, it is because they are CHOOSING to make a sacrifice. This sacrifice is not only one of time, but also of money. However, if an idividual cannot make a financial sacrifice due to circumstances, the church uses it's funds to accomadate that. The same is true for individuals who, for whatever reason, are unable to serve a mission. The church provides many additional opertunities for service if an individual WANTS to serve. The key principal here, as with everything in the church, is that of free agency.

    Why not let a young person work and earn the money to pay for their willfull service? It helps teach selflessness, hard work, and discipline. These attributes are vital to being a missionary.

    If you mean missionaries in the field, they have to earn the money to pay for it or their parents or other people can help them, but if they can't afford it the church will pay for it. They stay in apartments or members homes or some other place depending on the circumstances, and for food and clothes they just go to the store or get dinner at people's homes. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I have not been a missionary.

    +Adam Goodword Wow you seem to know a lot of things about Mormons and missionary work. Have you worked with missionaries before? They are so humble and kind and they are willing to sacrifice the pleasures of life just to serve. The members are very generous and they have a huge respect to the missionaries that are assigned in their branch. Mormons have this thing in church called a tithing slip. The money that you give in the church and the money that you want to offer to the missionaries are totally different from each other. The mission presidents give them money to pay for the apartment that they are staying in, their electricity bills and stuffs. My brother is a return missionary so you cannot object my words because these came from his own mouth. The other money are used to build temples and churches all around the world if you do not know. My dad own a construction company to build and fix Mormon churches. And the money that they are using comes from the church itself. :)

    +Adam Goodword Let me tell you where the money is used, okay? 1. To build churches and temples 2. For missionaries 3. Donated to charity 4. We have this thing in church called "ACTIVITIES" wherein the money that our leaders are using comes from the church itself (examples of activities are: Youth Conference, Youth Camp, YSA Camps, Temple Trips, Relief Society activities, New Beginning, etc.) 5. When someone in our church is willing to go to school but doesnt have any money for enrollment, the church will provide for the child or the teenager. And a lot more things. I'm too lazy to type all of them.

    The Bible has contradictions. In John 3:16 the Bible says that God loves everyone with a saving love while other verses says that he only loves the elect with a saving love.

    Why send missionaries from the states to other lands, they have LDS there already use the locals. And why train them how to recruit, seems to me if i have to train you to recruit for god, I should just look for someone else. The fact is these are boys and girls and their message is weak, it should be adults that have better people skills and know their religion better. They try and model this after say Military Recruiters, but unlike Military Recruiters these kids haven't lived their craft day in and day out for 5-15 years before going into the recruiting business. I have watched so many LDS missionaries in person and on video...they are kids with a weak message, and for the most part they recruit people that are already sold, or already looking for something..anything..doesn't really to much matter what it is...gullible.

    The message is definitely NOT weak. Some people delivering the message may deliver it poorly but the majority of them are trained pretty well. The Missionary Training Center (MTC) they are at really trains them vigorously and thoroughly to truly get their people skills down and help them become experts in the field. Also not all Missionaries go out of the states, just for this video they wanted to highlight their training because on top of learning how to teach people messages of God they have to learn a completely new language to teach it in. So, these four trainees have to stay in the MTC longer to get a sense of their new language they'll be speaking for two years. For the most part, yeah they're just kids, but its not something that is easy to do in any way. It takes time to learn and teach prolifically and it gains a lot of my respect for them.

    Matt Smith You are mocking someone because they have an actual passion to do something in life, now that's pretty pathetic.

    I have really seen much passion. It seems more like work and something that is expected from the majority of missionaries I have known and observed. Maybe if they had more life experience and endured and overcame more hardship in their lives that they would credit their god for they would be more passionate. But again most of them are kids and have not, in fact many of them come from the middle class and higher and haven't really had to endure much.

    Why does the Mormon church believe in a priest hood in their church when Jesus is the high priest, he sacrificed himself on the cross, why do we need your priesthood to talk to god or to get revelation, it is in the bible, 1 peter and Hebrews that God formed a new covenant and the old priesthood law is no more, do you not believe in the bible?..

    Hi Hollaye, thanks for your great questions. We believe that when Jesus was on the earth He called twelve Apostles and gave them the priesthood, God's authority. After the Savior's death and resurrection, Peter and other Church leaders were rejected and killed, and key teachings and this priesthood authority were lost from the earth. Then, in 1820, God and Jesus called a new prophet named Joseph Smith to restore the Church, its true teachings and the priesthood that had been lost. We believe John the Baptist, Peter, James, and John appeared to Joseph Smith and restored the priesthood. To learn more, visit www.comeuntochrist.org/beliefs/jesus-christ-church.

    Vivian Brown for starters Mark 6:7 And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits; Matthew 9:35 35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. Don't forget Matthew 28:10 & 20 19 ¶ Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Not only did I refuse to serve an LDS mission, I chose to use my money and time by not doing so. I was able to finish college early, and use the $20,000 it would have costed to serve a mission by starting a business that employs others. NONE of the first presidency (Thomas S. Monson, Henry B Eyring, or Dieter Uchtdorf, all THREE military veterans) EVER served a mission. Neither did eight of the twelve quarom of the twelve apostles, choosing military service over missionary service. I have the same rights and priviledges as a return missionary, (temple marriage, recommend, etc) Plus I have the same PRIESTHOOD as a return missionary as well. You DON'T have to serve a mission to be a worthy member of the church at all!
