I'm a senior high schooler that goes to school in Korea and why having stuffed animals is allowed is because we usually stay put in one class (which may be called a homeroom in America) instead of moving from class to class for different subjects so that's one reason keeping a blanket or stuffed animal wouldn't be tedious and another reason is because since most students tire themselves all day and all night from studying we don't get enough sleep so it is VERY common to see someone sleeping on their desk and by common I mean like you'll always have at least one person who's sleeping during breaks and the stuffed animals come in handy to use as pillows and the teachers know how tired we are so they'll let us keep them as long as they don't interfere with classes just some tmi for you :)

It’s actually extremely normal to go to boarding school in Korea, especially cus the land is so small. Kids homes are normally just 45-1:00 away from school so they’re not that far away. The boarding school experience is actually v good rep of what an average korean school is like, just minus sleeping at school. I’d say though, that the girl in the video gets a surprising amount of sleep for a korean senior... for reference, though I don’t go to a korean school, i live in korea and a lot of my friends go to korean schools!

East Asian schools (China, South Korea, Japan) are like these because their governments want to produce a generation that could compete with Western (esp USA) countries. This is a looot of pressure considering that when you try to compare them against each other, you have USA which has had centuries of stable education and who basically dictate the economic superstructure, while you have East Asian countries who have only recently (atleast in historical timeline) become highly developed and globally competitive. And so these countries are trying to shove centuries worth of competence, "knowledge", and skills to their youth in order to compete globally....and compete in a market dictated by the West (atleast for now).
