A Day In Bogota As Tourist (Not What We Thought) 🇨🇴
We spent a day as tourists in Colombia and this is what happened. There are so many things about Colombia that totally shocked us as foreigners traveling here for the first time. In this video, we share with you our first impression of Colombia, also we show you some of the most amazing places to see, the neighborhood you should not miss, where to visit in Bogota, Colombia, what to eat and more.
Things that shocked us about Colombia:
1. They don’t say Hola as the way to say hello
2. No personal car allowed on some days besides taxi and bus
3. Fluctuating weather in a day
4. Taxi with upbeat music
5. Bogotá is situated at an altitude of 2,640 meters (8,660 feet) above sea level, high in the Andes mountains range, making it one of the highest capital cities in the world.
6. Coca tea for preventing altitude sickness (Made of the same plant they use to produce Coc*ine)
7. Plantains with cheese and guava for breakfast
8. The guava is pink, not green
9. People drink beer early in the morning
10. Beer costs almost the same as water
Visiting Bogota, Colombia was actually one of the highlights of our first trip to South America. From culture, food, people, scenery, it is mindblowing.

Hi there. The weather conditions in Bogotá are not the same for whole Colombia!! Every city and region has a temperature defined by altitude as we are close to the equator. If you come to Medellín, it is more spring like conditions most of the time. The coastline , pacific or atlantic can be very hot and humid or hot and dry; the amazon, the oriental planes and every wrinkle in the three andes mountains ranges offer you a great variety of ecosystems. That´s why Colombia is the second most rich place in biodiversity , only after Brazil.

I was awfully shocked when i was watching this video. The lack of research and misinformation is astounding. As some examples, they confuse Colombia and Bogotá as the same thing switching back and forth. In most of Colombia the temperature is warm or hot. It depends ON THE ALTITUDE because it is a country located in between the tropics. Bogota is at a high elevation. They say pleople drink cerveza or eat ripe plantains with cheese and guava as a breakfast when it is not true for almost everybody ( by the way it is guava paste made mostly of guavas and sugar). They say that there are "Spanish Arepas" or something like that. Never heard of that. That you should expect avocados served with the meals-not true. ETC, ETC ,ETC
Hey! just wanted to thank you for making such a beautiful video about bogota, i always search videos and most of the time they are not as nice as you were. Thank you so much for showing the Bogota we all love. Its so cool how you respected our culture. I moved out of colombia a long time ago, so seeing this videos makes me so nostalgic, im so happy you had a great experience there.
Im so happy to see how people fall in love with Colombia 😍🇨🇴 It’s definitely a great country to visit. If you guys like partying a little bit, you guys should go to Theatron, the biggest night club in America, wanna get something delicious to eat, crepes and waffles. Monserrate to check the city 🌃 from hills. Ciclovía on sundays and holidays. And many many many more things ❤️

The greeting of Buenas is very common, i get that all the time when I'm there. Bogota is very high in the mountains and the air is thinner, It's why it's so much colder there. And coca tea is important to do well! I really love Cartagena as well. Medellin and Pereira is amazing!

9:19 American indigenous people have their roots in Asia (Siberia and Mongolia).

1. Kinda bothered me when you say the city name, it's BogoTA, not BoGOta. Accent is in the last syllable. Just FYI. 2. They tell you to not go south because that's the area where many low-income/working class people live and you find a lot of places with visible poverty. A couple of 'gringos' would give too much 'papaya' there. You can visit, but you should be low-key and probably with somebody that knows the area. A lot depends on specific neighborhoods. --- Look up a map of 'Estratos en Colombia' (Economic stratification) to see how the city is socioeconomically divided by districts -- Monserrate is located around 1,2,3 estratos, so the safety of an area can't be quite correlated with low estratos. In general, you you don't flash expensive stuff like your iphone if you are alone here. ** I would say it is fine down south as a tourist until you reach 'Tunjuelito.' There are commercial neighborhoods like 'La alqueria' where you can find every textile you want, dresses, halloween costumes, etc. Also, there is 'Centro Comercial Centro Mayor' which is one, if not the largest and newest shopping mall in Bogota (great stores, movie theaters, etc). Also, there is 'El Tunal' which has another shopping mall, and a park. Lots of people fly kites here during the windy months like August. 3. Why did you hike down? You hike up and take the teleferico down. It's too much for your knees otherwise in my experience.
I miss Colombia great video guys
There are people that if they tasted a great meal, they go dancing. You guys are them 😀
I realize that this is a million years after the fact, but I saw this video for the first time today. It drives me up the wall when people tell travelers to Bogotá to only stay in el Norte. The northern part of the city is wealthier and more expensive because of it, and I've found that the people who live in the north can be very demeaning when they speak about any part of Bogotá that's not the Norte. We've been going there regularly for almost twenty years, and we always stay in the Candelaria. Most of the interesting sights are in or close by to la Candelaria, and staying in el Norte just means you're losing time and wasting money on cabs (which are admittedly cheap). There are some good places to visit in the north, and the nightlife is definitely better up there, but you needn't be afraid to stay elsewhere. Even places that were dodgy 20 years ago, like Egipto, next to la Candelaria, are changing, and are significantly safer than they used to be. That said, there are places surrounding la Candelaria and el Centro that you may want to avoid, and you should always keep your head on a swivel there no matter where you're walking. Please do the research first.
Muy bueno el video felicitaciones
Colombia is definitely one place to visit in the future plus I'll get to practice my Spanish too.

It is not always like that, that day was like that because at that time there were smoog problems, so the mayor decreed a day in which the use of personal vehicles is prohibited if it is not strictly necessary, but when there are no such restrictions, the city It is a complete chaos, cars and motorcycles everywhere, and there are usually traffic jams at all hours

Just a small precision; it's not "cocaine" plant. The same as tobacco plant leaves are not cigarretes, coca plant is not cocaine. Native south american cultures used it for generations for medicine purposes and off course it's completely different than the chemical cocktail known as cocaine. :)
Did you get authorization to fly your drone through the CAAC?
no personal cars sounds awesome. although an obviously superior approach would simply be to charge to use the roads, and let the market sort out which trips pencil out economically.
Sorry for the things you went through on your first day...I'm Rican so I can communicate w colombians very well, but you always have to keep your eyes peeled. Being close to the equator, the higher you are in altitude the colder it is. The closer you get to sea level, the hotter it is. "It is cold in Bogota in the morning " is a better statement. Perhaps you should mention the temperature, since "cold" is a matter of perspective. Going to Bogota straight from a Canadian winter will seem different for example.
