A day in a life of a Software Engineer | Singapore | Chill vibes | 2023
This is a video of how a typical day looks like for a Software Engineer in Singapore, at least with my company.
I work as an expat in Singapore since 3 years. I hope sharing this video will give you more insights and maybe you would also want to come to Singapore for work!
There is so much more to say about this country and my daily work, don't hesitate to comment if you have any questions :)
Cheers!

Hi, I just stubbled on your video. I'm keen on working in Singapore as a software engineer, but I find it difficult to get a job there because I'm from the Caribbean. How difficult or easy was it for you, and what was the process like?

Hey Alex, really nice video! I just want to point out that at 11:00 you left the house bearfoot :D Not sure if this was intended or not, but as a fellow creator (and software engineer), I like to give feedback. I also have 2 questions: What dog breed is Maya? And what's the name of your backpack? Thank you in advance for your answer and I wish you best of luck on this platform and in life, cheers!

Hi Novak, good attention to details! Shoes (and socks) are always put outside the appartment in Singapore 😉 Maya is a lovely Cavoodle and my backpack is a Samsonite, very sturdy and light! I also like that it is slim enough, just perfect to put your laptop and accessories 😊
Interesting 🤔 so far my experience in SG working culture is more work oriented. For me not chilled at all. Overtime work, weekend work 😣
Wow. I really enjoyed watching this I am a mother of 3 watching this . I am Encouraging my son to study software engineer and was trying to find what software engineer normally do ,out of nowhere your video appeared. I really like it.

My mother also had 3 kids including me, and this (software engineering) really changed my life. I was able to move to a better country, buy my own house, increase my savings, help her (because we didn't have much when I was a kid), visit places I never thought I would,... and have access to a better life in general... They say money doesn't bring happiness,... well, maybe, but it makes life easier...

As a singaporean, yes its humid but it also frequently rains, all in the space of a day so its very easily adaptable. Wear light clothing, walkways are mostly covered, trees everywhere and the buildings and transports are all airconditioned. If you've taken vacations to a tropical country you mostly already know what to expect :)
Ill be in SG this week KZreadr here also lets meet!
what programming languages do you use in this company ???? what is your stack ??
Hi Alex, which company are you working in ?

how did you get a job in singapore as an expat? did you transfer internally by an outside company or did you just happen to be recruited by some company in singapore?
@MrAlexitron
Жыл бұрын
Both. I would advice internal transfer to come to Singapore, this will facilitate admin processes and give you a smoother experience overall

Hey! I'm a software engineer and just recently visited Singapore! Can I ask how much rent costs?
@coderonix4501
Жыл бұрын
as a singaporean, probably between 1.5k to way more, depends on the type of apartment and location, (closer to central where the financial/shopping districts are obviously more costly). But if you are willing to rent an apartment in the so-called "heartlands" then its much cheaper, especially if you are renting just a single room (usually with a bathroom or shared bathroom). Since Singapore is so tiny with a very well-developed public transport and the heartlands themselves are equipped with mostly all the facilities and services you need, it makes a very logical sense to actually live there and save a lot of money in the long run.
Hello,Can you tell me your reminder app

No way this is typical lol. Man works like what..5,6 hours a day? And most companies in sg dont allow work form home anymore, much less 3 months remote.

Depends on job vocations, seems like all my family members all have very flexible timings, from media to IT, they are working generally from home with 2-3 days at the office, (even then for meetings). So his day is actually very familiar to me. Even an inlaw whos HR work 2-3 days from home. As for myself, i work all the time from home lol working on my own business so i actually envious of his office with free pantry and really nice settings haha

woow ur office allows u to work in shorts

I have a problem with feeling like I'm not productive, and when I put my activities on a list, I can realize that and not "blame" myself. Maybe he does for the same reason!
