A Daunting Overland Journey Begins | Idaho BDR
Will, Chris (Frontier State Overland), and Rob (@RevereOverland ) begin a daunting journey of more than 1,200 miles on the Idaho Backcountry Discovery Route. With two Jeeps and a Toyota, they immediately face reroutes, find authentic places to stop, and put in over 200 miles on their first day. Ride along on this epic adventure right up the spine of Idaho into some of the most wild places in the lower 48 States.

This trip was a bucketlist item for Chris and I. It was amazing, but grueling. This first full day of the BDR was a teeny tiny preview of some of the adventures that were waiting for us out there in the deep, wild, backcountry of Idaho. For more V2R vids: kzread.info

I love living here in North Idaho. I get to live daily in a place most people just visit maybe once. I get to see 4 seasons and greet each one with amazement. The landscape is middle earth like, always green and tree rich. The lakes and rivers are perfect for gazing on or swimming in. The people are good hearted, friendly and kind but not suckers and we guard our small, peaceful towns and villages from the disruptions of blue state city’s and their corrosive pathologies. Come as a friend and stay for life….no better place in the world.
Nice job! I've been waiting for the video series!

We have the advantage of living here and watching the snow/rain to better understand when to go. We picked early July because we thought the snow would be melted and things would be too wet for many fires...we were mostly right lol..but did hit fires on our way..and had to clear more trail than folks who tried it later in the year..but I'd do it again that time of year.

If you look at the map I keep showing (it's kind of a character in the story) you'll see some words written in red wax (I took pics of my actual BDR map) - I scribbled down some of the stories I wanted to tell in certain sections of the route. Atlanta is a special place for Kate because her dad (and his dad) built a cabin up there and Kate would frequently visit...it's where she saw her first bear (on the deck of the cabin) and had a ton of adventures. We didn't get to tell that story on this trip...but we'll just have to go back to Atlanta to make it happen :)

Two years ago (2021)I spent the night in a small campground in SNOWVILLE Utah, near Ida border and the wind came down the canyon sounding like a passing fit train outside my camp. You could have taken a more accessible and shorter route from Rocky Bar over Phifer Creek Summit below Steel Mountain. But who cares that you couldn't stay on the actual BDR. The objective is to stay on dirt for as much as possible, and James Creek is a damn good way to do that, LOL. I worked for the Forest Service for nearly forty years and unloaded my horses & mules and packed out from James Creek summit many times. Depending on the weather, it was sometimes quite a challenge for me to get a large horse trailer loaded with horses up and down that road. I love that place...
@Venture2Roam
Жыл бұрын
So cool to know that you worked for the Forest Service...later in the trip we dig into its history as we get closer to Avery and Wallace as the Big Burn was such an important event in its evolution. James Creek is such a pretty drive and I love the view from up there (in good weather)...so it was really a selfish choice vs just trying to stay on the route as much as possible. But I agree...who cares lol. Great comment - hope you continue to watch the rest of the series!
