A Daring Civil War Prison Escape
Фильм және анимация
In 1864, Sgt. Berry Benson escaped from two Civil War Prisons. The first escape from Pt. Lookout Prison resulted in recapture. In the second escape from Elmira Prison, the wily Confederate crawled through a tunnel and set off on an amazing adventure that saw Berry hiking, boating, and hopping rail cars for over 300 miles and three states before the resourceful southerner finally found his way back to Dixie and Lee's army.

Great story. Never heard it before now. Thanks for preserving our history
Every man alive today should watch this video and find out what it’s like to be a real man! I salute you sergeant Benson! RIP brother and thank you for your service and loyalty!
Easy and pleasurable to listen to. Well done
strong will moves mountains... long live Dixie! great story! in many ways it resembles other stories from WWII
I absolutely Loved this story sir! May God once again bless our Southern Ancestors and give them the honor they deserve! Keep up this good work sir! Thank you…..
My great great grandfather Peter Seaford from Davie County, NC was captured at Gettysburg and imprisoned at Cape Lookout where he attempted to escape but was recaptured. He died there from starvation and was buried in a mass grave. Northern prisons were every bit as bad as any in the south but that story is seldom told.
He might of been a Reb but as a Yankee I salute him for a great mission completed...😁👍
Great presentation. Thank you, sir.
A very nice video presentation thanks. It almost has me admiring this man, until I remember that he was fighting for the continuance of human slavery.
Happy ending, I wish they all had one..
Great video. I love stories of the War of Northern Agression. What a great man Berry Benson was. Hurrah for Dixie!

War of northern aggression? I’m sorry but hadn’t the south taken federal weapons and property by force repeatedly before firing on fort Sumter?
My great x3 grandfather escaped Andersonville. (123OVI)
That was a great video!

@@josephf.wilson2747 Awesome! I will check them out. Thanks!
Benson was the only one that walked through the door and escaped from Maryland. I guess the other prisoners were happy there... what happened to the other 9 soldiers that escaped from Elmira and why didn't more soldiers follow them
My g-grandfather was one of Andrews Raiders who escaped and got the Medal of Honor. His name was William J Knight. I have his medal. But for his escape, I wouldn't be here

That's what I was wondering. A statue of one of my forebears, but on the Union side, was torn down and beheaded by anti-fa rioters.
My great grandfather lived in Elmira during those times. He was very lucky to make it out of there.....Elmira was a shit hole !!!
Isn't the dirtiest building in Washington the white house
Wish I could escape from these Yankees.
Great story. I'm from Elmira
That's where my parents are buried.
Mark Twain is also buried in Woodland Cemetery.
