"A Damn Good Detective." - Inglourious Basterds (2009) #shorts #inglouriousbasterds #movie
Inglourious Basterds is a 2009 war film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, starring Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Michael Fassbender, Eli Roth, Diane Kruger, Daniel Brühl, Til Schweiger and Mélanie Laurent. The film tells an alternate history story of two plots to assassinate Nazi Germany's leadership-one planned by Shosanna Dreyfus, a young French Jewish cinema proprietor, and the other planned by the British but ultimately conducted solely by a team of Jewish American soldiers led by First Lieutenant Aldo Raine. Christoph Waltz co-stars as Hans Landa, an SS colonel in charge of tracking down Raine's group. The title was inspired by Italian director Enzo G. Castellari's 1978 Euro War film The Inglorious Bastards, though Tarantino's film is not a remake of it.

Because Hans is smart enough to know who Also is and what type of person he is, so he'd know Aldo was lying he if pretended he'd be merciful. The way Christoph waltz just steals the thunder in every scene he’s in
While Landa was incredibly smart and cunning. He made one major error here that would be punished quite severely later. He asked Aldo if he would show mercy if Landa was his prisoner. Aldo outright told him, he would not. And yet Landa willingly gave himself up as a prisoner later on, expecting there to be no consequences for who he was. @hittingyouoverthehead

Yes, and that's intentional. Landa isn't really a Nazi in the sense that he doesn't believe in the Nazi philosophy. He just sees opportunity and he takes it. That's why he betrayed Hitler unlike the patriotic Nazi officer that Aldo and the Basterds killed in the beginning of the movie. So his feelings towards his nickname is meant to be a metaphor. He told the farmer that he also dislikes jews and that he loves his nickname but both of those are lies because if he really believed in his cause that much, he'd try and save his boss. So the fact that he changes his opinion about his nickname is meant to give you a clue that he's about to jump ship because he knows that it's sinking.
