A Dad's Mind After A Miscarriage.

Ойын-сауық

Hey Fambam, I've been really struggling the last week and a half after our miscarriage. Today was the first day where I got up and I felt good productive and through being productive I found space where I could let you guys in on things I've been learning. I hope what I share can give some insight into my processing and I hope my advice can help all those who are going through a hard time in their lives.
Much love,
Ced

Hey fam, I'm Ced.
I'm a retired NFL player and full-time husband, father, and content creator. Yes, I put "full time" husband and father not because I look at is a "job" but, I treat it as my first occupation as to where I put most of my time and energy in to succeed and be present in these roles of being the best husband and father I can be. It's kinda crazy that what I do full time for work is content creation because I never saw myself doing this, honestly, I never knew what I'd be doing outside of playing football. Football was all I ever knew since I was 10 years old, everything I ever did in my life related back to football from the way that I think, eat, sleep, make decisions and view life. These ways of thinking brought much success in the world in the football world, from earning a full-ride D1 scholarship to the University of Minnesota to being drafted to the Miami Dolphins in the 5th round. In my life now, I have to still keep the same mentality that brought me all the success in the football world but switch up the execution and game plan to become the best husband and father that I can be. This is what I do here on Football to Fatherhood and I hope you can tag along with me on this journey and become a part of the fambam!
Much love,
Ced ❤️

I'm so glad you done this video. I think there is such a stigma around men and miscarriages and often men don't want to be perceived as selfish and share their feelings, rather to suppress them. It's not that. Men grieve too. I'm so happy you've had that conversation with Charlotte. You both are incredible role models ✨💛

I just lost my son and I found this as I sit here and cry alone so I can be strong for my wife and daughter. I needed this brother thank you. Today has been the hardest day of my life , and you made it seem ok.

  • @jus3278

I've buried it for 20 years. Even when I've brought it up to therapists, they've brushed over it. My first thoughts were with my ex when it happened also. I just remember feeling crushed and empty, but I still went in to work that day. It took me over three years before I finally cried about it. Like you said, men are planners and problem solvers so often times there isn't a space for us to grieve, especially in the moment. I've kinda come to accept the fact that there will probably be no outlet for me as a Black man to grieve about anything, so hearing others share their stories and commenting will have to suffice.

I love that you all are healing on your own in your own way but still recognize that you MUST. Heal together as well. That is so insightful and unfortunately something that so many forget. You cannot be good for others in your life if you are good to yourself. The world needs more role models like you and Charlotte.

This video really helped me deal with some confusing emotions I experienced today. It is just a happenstance occurrence that I am watching this video right now but I’m really grateful for the wisdom that I’m hearing. Thanks for your vulnerability and real-ness addressing dealing with your emotions. You’ve obviously put a lot into knowing yourself and that’s gotta be one of the reasons you’re such a good role model. Feeling good is real work so thanks for modeling that. Strength is a responsibility. You are not just strong.. you use your strength for good. #respect

Processing together is huge. Struggles in relationships, especially marriages, can either strengthen or weaken the bond. Understanding that both parties are hurting and hurting in a different way, allows the grieving process to be shared rather than individualized. At least that is my opinion.

Wow, this video just brought tears 2 my eyes. I'm so glad u made it💯. When I had two miscarriages before having my rainbow baby, every1 asked me was I ok & how was I doing but not so much my husband💔😪 He like you put my recovery & feelings before his own. It wasn't until I walked in on him crying alone in the room that it hit me that he was being so strong 4 me & suppressing his emotions. I sat, held him & told him "thank u" but we loss our babies not just me, so please express ya feelings & lean on me just as I lean on you. I'm sending prayers to you & Charlotte✨Trust me God will see you through this. Be Blessed💖your rainbow baby🌈👣will come in his time.

Sadly, you are experiencing grief for your loss. I don't think men are taught by society that they are allowed to experience sadness and a bit of helplessness. I commend your desire to communicate with Charlotte. Suffering in silence defeats why we have partners when we are married. Hopefully, your days that you are away from social media and present with your family, will enable you to see how very blessed you are and that bad things happen to good people. Sadness will still come and go, but your marriage will be stronger by keeping the communication open when you are hurting. May God provide you with comfort and peace.

You all have given so much love to the Fam Bam. May the degree of love given be multiplied back to you and your family in abundance. Sending virtual hugs. Thanks for your transparency. You don’t know how much you’ve helped me as well. I believe fasting is what I need to do as well. Thanks again continued blessings

I am so very sorry for you and your family's loss. My husband and I had a miscarriage 7 years ago. My husband never spoke about his feelings about our loss. I always just assumed he didn't feel it as much as I did. Hearing what your going through makes me wonder if he just didn't know how to express his feeling about it.

Youre a great person, good communication..which isnt a trait all people have. I hope you guys heal in Gods name. I experienced a loss of a child i cant really get into detail, but i get so very sad over the situation. Like flash backs even occur of the day or the emotions i felt in those very moments. At those moments my partner at the time (ex husband) was not thoughtful, did not give me a secure feeling after losing that baby or didnt give communication so much so that i held i grudge and a negative cloud over him due to the anger i felt he gave me for convincing me we werent ready for that child. When in reality good people lose children everyday, good people experience trauma. Why would i feel that it wasnt a time to bring my child into the world? So i had to leave my significant other all the way around. Just my experience and im ashamed and guilty infront of Jesus for not keeping my baby. God really places his hand over your heart and puts distractions infront of you to occupy the mind. I have been reading a book on the subconscious mind and a lot of it includes God and how my thought process really affects my daily life and health. I know you will both heal.

I wish i could make up for not being there sometimes, we now on seperate terms and she saying she dont wanna continue the relationship. We had some past issues like we both have kids from previous relationships and not found a house to live together. We lost the baby our first born son at 25 weeks after complications with the placenta.Since then it went down the hill , i had to keep going to arrange the burial, talk with people, being there for her daughter and being there for my girlfriend.

November 11th 2020 we lost our 20 week old baby boy. We went in for an ultrasound and found out the bad news. Unfortunately, we had to spend 2 days in the hospital until she was actually able to give birth. The hard part is when all the condolences stop and your still dealing with the pain. We had a complete stranger reach out to us after she heard what were we going through after she went through the same thing. I find myself so angry sometimes because life just isn’t fair. You guys WILL be ok. Not the same, but ok. We still haven’t talked to our 4 and 7 year old about what happened. It kills me inside when they ask about their brother. I could not believe I was in a funeral home picking out an urn for my baby boy. It’s definitely a parents worst nightmare that I wish nobody would have to go through. You are in my thoughts….

Hey Ced and Char, your love for each other is unparalleled. You are still becoming one. Ced, you hit the nail on the head about "burying the emotions," cause it's the "manly thing to do" - that cliched thought worded towards our men in particular. Sometimes, people tend to not realize that we are emotional beings as well. When all is said, we lock up everything and throw away the key and there is still no resolve!! I applaud both of y'all continuing to address the hard stuff even while going through it/them. I just want you both to know that you are loved unconditionally. I pray that while you reset, clarity and peace will issue forth from God's throne in Jesus's name!! Much love.

It might do you some good to let your babies stay a full 2-4 day weekend with grandparents and just stay home with each other to grieve. You will miss them, but you can spend some time processing those emotions and then be really joyful and relieved when your babies are back home.

@@Cedthompson thanks. Glad I could offer some helpful thoughts. Right now I have two girls under two, and I know how hard it is to take care of yourself and let your mind rest, even connect with your spouse, when every minute of the day, your brain is in a hyper attentive state. But taking that rest and being your best is just so important.

I'm glad you made this video. The world doesn't normally hear men's side of how they dealt with a miscarriage. It's always how the woman feels because fathers are normally seen as "deadbeat" Dads. The world doesn't seem to care about men's feelings. Jesus loves you and your family. Get to know him. Knowing Jesus will greatly bless and enhance your family on a spiritual level ❤. Be blessed by these words.
