A Custom Order from IYV that is only $91? How is this possible?

Музыка

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of the guitars coming from IYV. Over the past couple of years, I've checked out a bunch of their stuff. I'm always impressed with the quality and of course the affordable prices. This time I decided to order 3 custom guitar necks. Does the quality hold up? Let's find out. Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe.

Love how you built a guitar inspired by Snake from Escape From New York. That's such a great movie! I was looking at necks recently for a possible future build. The neck makes the guitar IMO, but I still found my custom searches relatively expensive to what I was considering. So these guys may be a serious option for me. Heck, if they do custom guitars, I might even let them make the whole thing. Like you said, the trick is getting down to all the details in the specs, so I'd better get started!

With a few guitars in my lifetime and 2 I play with right now, you can make a guitar neck exactly how you want it to be as far as thickness if the neck is not a painted one or you will have to do more work repainting, or custom removing the paint to a bare neck as far down and up the back of the neck as possible (The way I like mine truly) . Take a piece of sandpaper of about 100 grit. Not to hard and start playing with that sand paper in the cup of your hand for a while. Your hand will start find the spot you need your neck sanded down at. Just make sure to play the entire neck. Play until that neck feels comfortable, and then do the entire neck leveling it down and then really fine sand it smooth. I also sand with small files all the way upto the body sloping the neck to meet the body removing any block heel of the neck the most I can. This really lets you get your hands far up on the neck when playing. Most pro guitars are not going to have 5" of long square block heel on them. But hey man, that's a nice looking guitar for so little money.

Do you have any guitars that have divots in the frets from practicing? My fender squier is like this the right handed one. My left hand is like a vise grip so i would appreciate having titanium frets. On the left handed guitar there is some wear but not as much as my right hand doesnt fret as heavy. Im a minimalist i tend to use things until they are crushed. I had some teck metal picks that i wore thru picking right handed.

The other videos were with guitars you stated were not set up for serious shredding, so you "kind of" shredded. Something I was just wondering after reading several comments for this video, especially a comment from a guitar tech. For someone starting off that can't afford Fender or Gibson prices, and that is not a guitar tech, how much time and money will it take to get these necks fully ready to play?

Actually it's more about the options. Musikraft and Warmoth offer a lot more options as far as different woods, pre-intalled nuts, finishes, fret sizes, etc. Although this does have extra jumbo frets, they're not quite as big as the 6100 size I can get from those other places. Very close, but not exactly the same. But make no mistake. These are fantastic necks at a fraction of the cost.

I cannot believe the cost of such an instrument. What an Awesome company to deal with. When I get it, I will do a complete review of it.

Headstocks need to contrast from the body color . What I didn’t like about Carvin’s is the always painted the headstock same color as the body and looks to cookie cutter and cheap looking.

This has no hate in it, but is indeed a actual question, if 3 necks cost 91.00 but a cheap beginner ax is say around 100 to 250, and you get an entire ax to part out and work with why buy the custom necks? I mean besides the convenience, if you have the knowledge and tools why not just make a average beginning ax into a great gig ax for less than the big name makers? I mean unless the name is a must have, again no hate but I put the same amount of work into setting up and modding a Gibson or fender as I do for a cheap guitar. So I was curious to get some answers or opinions on this question, great video and thanks for the information, I do appreciate anything that can at times help me out, as everything I need to make a neck is not in my garage, but I have everything to mod a neck in my garage.

  • @thebaldshredder

These are 100% custom necks which means I can specify every aspect like wood, fret size, profile and thin vs thick, nut width, not to mention any headstock shape I want. You buy a cheap guitar and you get the neck that comes on it. That's not a custom neck made to your specs. That's the reason.

@@thebaldshredder thanks, yeah I do know the difference, just want to throw it out there as sometimes you just want to work on one ax at a time and if just starting out there is alot to be said for kits and good cheaper ax's as opposed to flat out building one from paper to finish, I guess if you are starting out I would say go look at your buddy and a favorite channel of mine Scarred guitar, he turned me on to you, different channels but same goals I personally think. I do really thank you for taking the time to explain it as I don't think anyone would really listen to a no body like me, but you have a great channel and explain things well, so again I thank you it seemed important to get the difference between modding and custom explained as they are similar but worlds apart. Also I just respect your channel for my own reasons. So again thank you for your time and understanding and knowing. There's more to you than what you're channel shows but you still come across as down to earth, and deserve to have more eyes on your channel. So thank you 😊

And then the Donlis pickups - What other DONLIS store parts have you tried and considered good quality - I ask cuz on their store they have a lot of stuff and it makes we wanna build MORE custom guitars... Any positive exprerience with Donlis Single Coils by any chance ? Do they Gilmour/DireStraits , glassy quack sound ??? Anybody ?
