For anyone who's interested in what she was like off camera: Susan was incredibly kind, intelligent, and generous with her time. It was a privilege to get to spend time with her. Eli really enjoyed it too!

Great work with this interview. Your questions were thoughtful and interesting, and, unlike far too many interviewers, you actually listened to the responses and didn’t interrupt. This was really cool to see

Dude I feel so proud. It's like seeing your friend or someone you know, become famous, so you can go, "Hey, I knew him from before!". Good luck on your future endeavors VTH.

Incredible interview, really cool to think about the fact you are sitting with someone who not only knew Eisenhower, but knew him on a personal level and behind closed doors. Hopefully you get the opportunity to do more interviews with people who have a connection to a historical figure.

She was great. Very intelligent, very kind, and generous with her time.
I love how genuine she was when your son came in briefly. Taking a real interest in his interest and engaging genuinely instead of dismissive like a lot of people would be. Great interview.
This is a wonderful privilege to get to meet the granddaughter of the 34th President of the United States, Dwight D. Eisenhower. Great conversation!
Back in January we had our first child, a baby boy. It brings me so much happiness to see the bond you and your son have over history. I hope I can have that some day too.

That's perhaps one of the best interviews I have ever seen. Can't imagine what I would do If I met a close family member of a president.

Appreciate that. I've never really interviewed anyone before so I just thought of a few questions I thought might be interesting.
Amazing, Your son will remember this for the rest of his life. What a great father you are.
It’s so crazy she has Ike’s same grin or smile, history is really never far from us at all

For sure. Her dad looked just like Ike so I’m not surprised she does as well.
This channel really is a treasure. Not to mention your adept interview skills. That I can remember this channel from just three years and now… interviewing the granddaughter of a President, is a shining testament to the work you’ve done. You have a strong and abiding pride in that work, and it’s as contagious as sunshine.

@@VloggingThroughHistory Waiting with bated breath, truly.
This was really good.
One last thing; it makes me so, very happy to see Eli so engaged in history of his own volition and his own passion 😊 when I was around 12 or 13 I discovered that I could learn history outside of just my underfunded school classes, and from then I took off. For Eli it's space, for me at that age it was WW2 and the Cold War. Such a passion for history is such a beautiful thing to see, Eli can be a great influential historian one day :)
Eisenhower's granddaughter and Bruce Springsteen in one video imagine that... No but in all seriousness, I do wish we get more of these conversations/interviews on the channel cuz it's such a pleasure to listen to people like Susan who can have so many insights and stories to offer.

Happy to see you doing so well and getting a golden opportunity. I’d also add that Susan seems very intelligent and well spoken, and has a good heart. Ike would no doubt be proud.

She is all of the above. We really enjoyed our time with her.
This is an amazing interview and I'm glad you got the chance to have this discussion with someone who actually knew Dwight Eisenhower personally. I hope you can get the chance to do more of these interviews with people who have connections to historical people.
It's amazing how directly connected to history we still are with these individuals. Nothing was all that long ago
What an amazing opportunity for a young enthusiast like your son, I wish I'd had an experience like this at his age!
Susan Eisenhower is a tremendous resource! She is intriguing and a great witness to so much history. You did so well with this interview. 👍
Man she's an absolute class act, what a lady
What a great interview! So happy for you and your son for getting the chance to meet with her!
Had the opportunity to speak with her multiple times while I was Director of Combat Studies at Ft. Leavenworth as well as a student at the Army War College. Also, worked with the Eisenhower Library on several projects she was leading. Got to tell her stories about me bagging groceries for her grandmother Mamie at the Ft. Ritchie Commissary, about 40 minutes from the Gettysburg Farm after the GoA passed away. My dad was stationed there when I was in high school. Never met the GoA, but did meet his wife, his son BG John, and granddaughter Susan. All we good people, and Susan was a fabulous lady, laboring constantly to educate people on DDE. Glad you could talk to her.
Great interview. Eisenhower was definitely one of our better presidents, though I don't think he gets enough criticism for empowering Allen Dulles the way he did.
It would be fantastic if you got to interview all the living relatives of the presidents like Abe Lincoln, or Jefferson. This is a great start for a series and be able to document this side of the individuals that held the president position.

@@VloggingThroughHistory Timothy Lincoln Beckwith's paternity was once in dispute with his mother alleging he is a descendant but then his alleged father had a vasectomy. However, vasotomies have been known to fail... a fraction of a fraction of a percentage. lol. And the odds of that being a prominent person like this seem slim. Get him on after having him do an AncestryDNA test!
Can I just say how I wish all interviews were done this way with respect for each other from both sides. 2 respectful humans interacting with the sole goal of informing the viewer. While I enjoy your reactions I enjoy your original content even more.
What a privilege to be able to listen to this conversation. Thank you to everyone involved.
I speak as a Brit here, but that was a very interesting conversation….kudos for getting this opportunity….what an experience for your son too Chris. Eisenhower was the right man at the right time for the job as supreme Allied Commander…no question in my mind…as someone who has studied WWII in great depth. He managed some big characters during the campaign, allowing them room to do what they do but keep them focussed.

Absolutely amazing interview! It's so cool to think that you sat down and spoke to someone who actually knew Eisenhower personally, not to mention actually being related to him. I'm looking forward to seeing more interviews like these
What a remarkable and intelligent public servant. Great interview Chris and Eli. The Eisenhower's deserve the accolades they get. Great political family with a lot of integrity. Ike was the man for every big decision he ended up having to make. He was a great diplomat, great politician, even as Allied Supreme Commander, and great delegator. His immediate subordinates loved and respected the man. Great job.
I always thought when I was younger that the presidents post WW2 up until about Reagan were just presidents that were "insignificant" or you could "write off", and only as I'm getting older do I rectify these beliefs. President Eisenhower has influenced the United States of America in the modern era for the positive, perhaps more than any other president since FDR, perhaps even moreso. Much respect to President Eisenhower and all involved.
Very cool, I have read so many books and watched a good amount of documentaries about Ike. Seemed like a great guy and my favorite president.
This was great. Very interesting to get to hear from someone with a direct connection to the history, and a great job done on the interview too. I'd love to see more videos like this.
Man it's crazy to see how far you've become!!
Wow, its so cool that you're able to do new cool stuff like this on the channel now! i am so happy that you're able to do share your love of history with all of us, by exploring and doing stuff like this.
What an absolute privilege and inspiration 🇺🇸
This was a wonderful interview I gained much insight into who President Eisenhower was. I did a report on him in the 5th grade and he was quite a person!
I absolutely love seeing this. VTH, seeing you explore and get firsthand accounts from the family of influential history is incredibly inspiring and gives me hope for the world, as silly as it may sound; but we need more of this, we need to understand history on a human level.
What an interview And it's cold to get in sight into a great man's legacy
Amazing interview. Ike is my favorite president and getting to hear from his granddaughter is an awesome opportunity that you’ve given us. I would have liked to talk about Ike’s discussions with French and British leadership about the potential for intervention and Vietnam and his ultimate decision not to get involved.
That was great!!!
Fantastic Chris, lovely to see your passion has led to you interviewing people of such magnitude. Anything is possible if you follow you dreams.
This was such a wonderful sight to see, makes me happy that internet exists
You did great handling this interview Chris! Hopefully you’ll get more opportunities to sit down with great people tied to historical figures!
Hi there Chris, this is incredible, a podcast type of series with such people who give such a great insight into history would be a massive growth opportunity for you! This is a fantastic interview! My wife and I got to go to the beyond the battlefield museum opening day. I think that you much like the museum did a great job of focusing on the person and the relationships rather than just one small part of the persons time! man, the family in ya making me grin. I was an avid physics nut at his current age (I'm now a film student), so the space race intrigued me back a decade ago. Heck, I remember watching the news when Neil died. big day that was. and I probably saw Tim Peake as the UK’s next Neil Armstrong.

It is also really cool how you and your son got to meet and speak with Susan Eisenhower. Also awesome how your son is strongly interested in space and history of space exploration. I don’t comment often but I watch a lot of your videos. This was a very well done interview. You seemed so at ease discussing things with her. Great job!
So cool that you were able to do this man, keep it up, I know some reactions you make get taken down, but every single interview you have had has been spectacular. You really have a gift at this and are so personable. Your Billy the Kid interview was amazing too you really know how to make us feel like we could know the person

Wow. Just wow. Meeting with someone like her. Enjoyed every second of this interview. This puts a smile on my face. Big greetings to you, your son, and everyone else from Hungary 🇭🇺🇭🇺🇭🇺
What a nice lady! Family resemblance especially across the eyes of Ike. After his efforts in WW2 the White House was the only place for him to be. Great leader, well respected here in the UK. Great interview.
