A Conversation with Jon Anderson
Музыка
Denny and Jon know each other for nearly 50 years, so you know this conversation will range from the earliest times to the latest tours for 2023, with brief stops at all of Jon’s works-in-progress. While you may have heard one or two of these stories in the past, even hard-core fans will be telling their friends about something from this episode!

Excellent interview! Jon is one of my all time favorite singers.
Jon's Tour with Band Geeks was Genius. He needs to do more of this. The world needs YES Music and not Steve Music.
THE voice of progressive music. A legend, an amazing artist and a free spirit. God bless Jon Anderson!

Jon Anderson is a legend& a beautiful man ❤🙏
So incredible to hear your wondrous stories☘️
dont forget you are loved in the UK jon
Impressive the gates of delerium And animation are so wonderful and intense fairly also like king crimson - yes soon the light
I have always admired Jon Anderson. I have listened to YES since I was a young boy. I used to listen the the local radio station on my FM pocket radio placed on my pillow at night. Now I am turning gray myself and have much more sophisticated equipment to enjoy Jon's music. I know what I would ask Jon if I ever had the chance.... "On to the Heart of the Sunrise" "Nous Somme Du Soleil" "Wish the Sun to Stand Still" Jon, can you share with us why the sun is featured so prominently in your lyrics?
How excellently I hear your wondrous stories !!! You are an inspiration ☮️
Just saw this today. @ 11:47, when discussing his show with Peter Frampton opening, I have to remember the fantastic show in Washington D.C. I attended the same year, 1976. The opening show to the opening show was Gary Wright, then Peter Frampton, then Yes. I believe this was the first Yes concert I ever attended. It was held at Constitution Hall. Great times. I will carry on and listen to the rest of this interview.
I remember Jon and Vangelis those were such inspiring albums, and still are I used to listen to that before going to work at the American friends service or perhaps also the sierra club. You inspired me towards a higher sense of peace and charity and love. State of independence I’ve listened to this all over 1000 times
I was at the last show on this spring tour at the great Riviera Theatre in North Tonawanda, NY. Jon sang great and the Band Geeks were excellent. Loved seeing Jon dance with his wife side stage during a part of Roundabout. Jon is my favorite singer/songwriter and I was able to meet him in person once in 2004 on their 35th anniversary tour at a meet and greet in Toronto at Sam the Record Mans in the afternoon before their show at the arena. When I walked by the band with albums in hand wearing my YES logo T-shirt on cloud 9, Jon stood up shook my hand and said "It's a pleasure to meet you". I replied back, "No Jon the pleasure is all mine." Then he signed my Close to the Edge album as did the rest of the band. I also received a signed poster and both have been on my wall for the last 20 years. I cherish this memory!! I been a fan since I was a kid at 11 in 1971 when my brother Mike brought home The Yes album. Having seen Yes on the Relayer, Going for the One (2x) , Tormato tours, in the 90's, 2000's, and seeing Jon solo a number of times and with Rick twice, Jean Luc Ponty once, I have to say that my love for Jon Anderson and Yes has been pretty much life long. Thank you Jon for your music, your art and inspiration!!

I did an unintentional duet with Jon Anderson at an AndersonPonty Band concert in Madison, WI on 5/14/16. Jon started singing “The Revealing Science of God” which I’d been listening to in my commute back and forth from work for years (the whole Topographic Oceans CD) and when one person got up and started singing with him I got up and started singing too, thinking everyone would get up to sing, only they didn’t. After about 30 seconds the other guy sat down and I was left alone singing the intro part of “T R S of G” with Jon. Which was a harrowing experience for me. He finished the intro and (thank God) didn’t launch into the full song, since I knew that by heart as well and was prepared to finish with him. Still my favorite Yes album.

I just watched his concert from Newark.Brilliant.Great choice to team up with Band Geeks .Their covers, especially of Yes,are like listening to the original albums.I live in Canada and am very bummed that this tour is so limited. I first saw Yes in the round in ‘79 and ARW in Tel Aviv.Thrill of my life was meeting Jon and Rick backstage. They were down to earth and true gentlemen.

Watching concert video Jon must have found the vocal chord fountain of youth because he is singing incredible and The Band Geeks are great - this show is so good that if Jon wishes too they can become a successful touring act - the cities with big YES followings are going to love this show - as well as corporate gigs, private shows - this can be a profitable venture - of course at Jon's age he may limit his number of performances per year. Whatever happens Jon and the Band Geeks are terrific and a must see show for Yes fans.

Such talent. Jon still has the charm and can sing like he always has. I salute Jon and the band as they really have something special happening. I can’t say it enough: I LOVE Jon Anderson. All my musical tastes were initially informed by the music that my older brother used to listen to… So when he played music I’d listen to it / but when he went to school I’d sit in his room and LOOK at the artwork on the albums. The gatefold of YESSONGS was mind boggling to me … and when I figured out that the planet on FRAGILE made up the fragments floating across on YESSONGS - man! I thought I had unlocked the secrets of the universe! (I was 4!) But it wasn’t until I heard Jon’s solo albums that I realized that it was all about Jon. His voice/his singing/his lyrics and his outlook. I remember seeing Yes in the 90’s; I went to the local copy-center to make a T-Shirt. I had the cover of THE SONG OF SEVEN blown-up and put on a shirt (If you know the album, you’ll know the lyric that inspired me to make the t-shirt!). At first the clerk in the store said that it was copyrighted so he wouldn’t do it. BUMMER! …but then I realized that the shop was open 24 hours a day! I went back at 2AM!… the clerk on duty then was not so concerned about the legalities. One of the worst parts of getting old is realizing how time is really a diminishing asset. So I don’t want to hesitate or waste the opportunity to thank you for this interview. I don’t want to waste the chance to express how deeply Jon’s music and lyrics have touched me over the years. (True story: having purchased albums like OLIAS…, ANIMATION and SONG OF SEVEN as Japanese import CDs even saved my biscuit one time when I was completely down and out. I sold them to a shop in Harvard Square, Cambridge that bought used CDS. Normally they’d scan the barcode and the guy behind the counter would say “…$1.50…$1.00…$1.50…$1.00…” He scanned THREE SHIPS (long long pause and a troubled look on his face) “…$25.00…” He scanned ANIMATION (long long pause again) “…$25.00…” He scanned SONG OF SEVEN (downright amazement) “…$25.00! Who the heck is this guy????” … after cleaning out my cd collection I netted enough money to pay my bills that month and it was just long enough until I got another job. It was like a miracle - something out of an O.Henry story! Sorry for blabbing - I just don’t want to waste the chance to share that in the 0.00000000000001% chance that Jon reads it and realizes how much his music means to so many people.

BRAVO! Great conversation! I can listen to Jon's stories over and over again. Loved his story on recording at Abbey Road -- Good for him for chewing them out (it should have been included in the documentary!) And the artist he couldn't think of is Jake Shimabukuro. It's funny, how he felt about seeing Paul McC is how I'd feel if I met JON in person. Haven't had the honor yet to be in Jon's light. Maybe in my next life.

I met Jon (incredibly briefly) in the late '80's after an ABWH performance in Spokane Wa, got his autograph, shook hands!! ❤❤❤ (iirc also met Rick Wakeman!)
It was 22 years ago, that Jon, last performed The Gates Of Delirium with Yes, he said 40 bless him….
Thanks Denny..and love to Jon. Once Jon relaxes his Northerness starts to come out of hibernation. As a Mancunian its heartening to hear it still. I remember in 1972 when Yes returned to Manchester (after their first foray in the US with Alan) on the Close To The Edge tour playing at The Kings Hall BelleVue which was the venue for the BelleVue Circus. In between numbers Jon mentioned watching the circus there with his family..”and it still smells of camels” he said..and it did! I have been running a Yes tribute for over fifteen years over here called SEYES playing Gates Ritual Awaken (I have a twin neck Manson bass!) and Close To The Edge. We could be Jons British version of Band Geeks..no visas required! Anyway on this subject I met Jon a few years ago after his solo show at Manchester Royal Exchange Theatre in which he covered a few Yes bits and I and suggested that if he ever wanted to do solo Yes songs with a backing band to get in touch with us..”yeah sounds great” and off he went. I really really wish him well we owe the very existence of Yes music to Jon. Thanks once again for the interview Denny. P.G. X

I so wish Jon would release a remastered version of the original Marc Chagall musical. I know it got bootlegged. I mistakenly bought it from Amazon around 1996 or 97. It is Fantastic I feel strongly that if Jon has the master tapes he could have it remastered and maybe a few songs enhanced, but it is a masterpiece. The song, Beside the Water Fall is one of Jon’s best. I am sure it would sell well and perhaps lead to the musical being staged. I would hope before Jon gets to old to over see the project.
