  • @chrisoakleyfx

Colloquial English is so idiosyncratic and varies massively by region, or by demographics in a large multi-cultural city like London. In London particularly there is a lot of urban slang that many Brits don't even understand, unless learned through music/TV etc. This video I would say is pretty much just typical Essex and Estruary English, which most young, educated 20-30 somethings speak in London and the South of England in general. As you go more West/South West the accent will change but the words are mostly the same. These days the youth use a lot of urban slang which is largely a mix of Jamaican/Caribbean patois and London cockney/east end slang. In certain poorer areas this is authentic, but these days the cultural image has spread and become popularised (mostly through music) and now your average middle class kids from Buckinghamshire are talkin lyk man be livin hard on da road fam (acting like they come from a hard background when they are actually very privileged but like to act as if they belong on the streets with their mates dressed like drug dealers) 😂 but that's a different subject.

Massive , brilliant mate ! You reminded me of few years ago I was introducing my white American chum to my other white British mate , literally I was some times feeling like a translator / interpreter for both sides , another occasion was invited to a thanksgiving dinner there was a British old man who was a bit shy then I explained to him briefly what is thanksgiving to North American as related to their culture then he felt little relieved lol, he admitted was not having any clue about it as he told we don’t have it over the 🇬🇧 UK I speak normally approximately 60 % standard English, 30 % British , and 10 % American English in way Well the funny part could be that my mother tongue or first language is Arabic lol

Memo Shoshos that isn’t proper English it’s slang. Most people whose first language isn’t English don’t understand what is being said in slang.
