A conversation about Bourbon with Julian Van Winkle III
Ойын-сауық
Ryan from Caffe Gelato meets up with Julian for a down to earth discussion at the Buffalo Trace Distillery. It's great morning to talk about Bourbon and how the Old Pappy Van Winkle Distillery has navigated the good times and bad. Julian offers an insight into the business and even the impact of global warming and of course a few laughs. Look for Part 2 with tasting tips from Julian.

I love how transparent and welcoming Julian is in this interview. I wish they would have honored him a little better. Don't get me wrong, not a bad interview but Ryan interrupted him a number of times and asked him questions that didn't pertain to PVW. Ryan seemed unprepared to interview a legend.

Unprepared is an understatement. Not that he has to be a bourbon encyclopedia but half of those questions were basics covered in any distillery tour, show, etc. I'd think he'd do a little homework before talking to one of the big names in the industry.

There’s a few moments where he seems disinterested, or distracted.

I know nothing about the interviewer, so there's that...but watching this made me feel like when a kid runs into the middle of a movie wanting to know the ending.
Dude some of these questions are rough. There are bourbon lovers out there that would die to interview this man. Just needed to do a little more prep work. Felt like there were so many questions I wanted to hear.

Well done video, I wish that pappy was still around $70 a bottle today. Now you can get a tasting for $70. I did a flight once of the 10y 12y and 15y. The 12y was by far the best bourbon I have ever tried. At $1000 plus a bottle that tasting is probably all I will ever get but it was amazing.

Perhaps in 10 to 15 years there will be a lot more available at a better price. Sadly even as production increases it still takes years for the product to be just right.

Yeah what a shame for us common people that love bourbon, but a lot of the rich snobs that can afford it just buy it for stature-sake.

I love a sophisticated conversation about all things bourbon - Cheers
The interviewer kept cutting Julian off before he was done with his thoughts. Repeatedly. If someone did that to me i would question whether or not they actually cared about what i was saying in response to the interviewers questions. Pretty rude. Props to Julian for not getting frustrated by it

Agreed, the young reporter even seemed mad at how the older man loved where he was in....
I own a 15 year Pappy. Nice to hear these stories and get all the insight on the what where and why on these Sazerac brands
this guy reminds me so much of Jim Lahey from Trailer Park Boys and first thing I see is "Julian" at the beginning of the video HAHA... if it weren't so damn early in the day I'd crack open a bottle of Buffalo Trace!
Thank you for keeping it america
Great video, I love that last comment from Julian.. lol
Know who you are talking to and what you are talking about. How did this guy even get the interview?
Hello Julian, We attended Raldolph-Macon at the same time. Also, KA Brothers!
Only thing I would say is up the proof on all your products. 50 ABV is still low enough for new drinkers and brings so much more flavor to the whiskey. Just my take on it but it’s a good one.
Why does he have some of his facts wrong and asking questions about other brands?

I agree. Seems he doesn’t know what he’s talking about
Pappy is north of 5K on the aftermarket
Why does ryan keep interrupting and not even asking questions to what he just interrupted for!!??? Its like he wasnt even listening and just rushed into the next question? 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
These guys are playing a shell game on us. There’s really no brands per se, it’s only determined by mash bill. They taste a barrel and then decide if it’s going to be Blanton or Eagle Rare or Elmer or whatever.
I couldn’t get past 10m in, and it’s not Julian’s fault at all. Another whisky guy who likes to hear himself talk - when none of us clicked this link to hear him talk. Painful. Do better. Show some respect. Listen. Don’t cut off.
cringey can’t waych
All that bourbon and they still let the price gouging happen with a bottle going for $1,500 and up.
JESUS stop fuckin cutting him off at the end of his sentences. horrible disrespectful reporting.
Dude…learn how to actual conduct an interview and stop cutting Julian off
It’s sad you can’t get a Pappy unless you take a second mortgage😂
