Hi there, very nice comparison. However, I would like to address the fact that a JM pickup is in fact very different from a P90. Their coil sizes and depths are very different, and so are their constructions. I would really appreciate it if this was rectified. Other than this I dont see much issue.

Fair. I’ll see if I can get my hands on a true p90.

That's a well put together comparison. Now here's a comparison challenge for you. How about the different Gretsch pickups? I've seen several requests for Filter'trons here, but Gretsch now has several varieties. There's the classic on the high end Gretsch that has that chime that everyone thinks of them there are the Blacktop and Broad'trons for the Electromatic and Streamliner models that are voiced more like PAF humbuckers. Oh, and don't forget the Dynamics.

I’m gonna be so broke. Happy… but broke. Haha I wanna do this SO BAD. I’m trying to find out from sweetwater what it takes to become an affiliate so I can potentially get things sent to create videos with. It likely will take WAY more views/subscribers than I currently have, but that’s the goal!

Single coil wins in every clean position, in my opinion. I also tend do prefer neck dirty sounds with single coils.

I tend to agree with you. I have a really hard time with bridge pickups if they’re not overdriven. I just think they sound aggressive and brittle.

@@macwrightmusic I totally agree. It seems like If youre not playing country music, bridge pickups just does not fit with clean tones

While the Squier JM Jazzmaster's pickups are more a kin to a P-90 they're not true P-90's. I have a J Mascis along with a few P-90 loaded guitars and while the JM is close to a P-90 it's still lacks a bit of the midrange bit and clarity of a real P-90.

I totally agree. I’m hoping to beef up my guitar collection in the next few months and do a new video with as many pickups as I can get my hands on!

I believe the PUPs on a Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster are closer to P90s then the standard Jazzmaster.

@@thebrysmith3 they are closer for sure but as someone who has multiple p-90 equipped guitars I can tell you without question they’re not really p-90’s. They’re awesome don’t get me wrong but they lack the midrange bite that most p-90’s have.

@@thebrysmith3 they are much closer, but still not a true P-90 and therefore will only spark more controversy in the comments haha. I tried to find true P-90, but even I have to admit, this is not a perfect comparison.

For sure. I think I might do a strictly semi-hollow/hollow body video like this and those would fit nicely in that!
