    Thanks, very clear and thorough. I have used revit for a few years but as I work on the very end stage of construction docs and on site stage when options have usually gone, I have only had a small knowledge aboutoptions so if someone asked me to work on one for a short while I would be in a bit of a panic, but I feel more confident now.

    Thank you for your time explaining design options. I have been looking a while for a video guide explaining how to delete all design options back to just the original main only. Could you please point me in the right direction for this kind of video? Thank you again! Michael

    You are quite welcome for the video! My best advice would be as simple as this: Accept one of the options within each set. Doing this would in fact "delete" the design option but integrate the contents from the option set. If you did not want any of the option set's contents, then you could create a blank design option, set that to the primary and the design option will be gone. Hope that helps.

    Thanks for this video - it's a really important topic and there are many ways to screw it up! You're a great resource and I like the way you think. I'm a Revit newbie but am using it to help design a house for my oldest brother so this seems like the way to give him choices. I think I understand how to create views of each option. Once you accept an option and delete extraneous views, do they automatically disappear from sheets? If one sheet consists entirely of a rejected option, are you then left with a blank sheet? If so, I guess you have to be meticulous about cleaning up the sheets. I love the workaround of creating an option set so that you can include materials. I thought that each option affected schedules, so a finish schedule would only include materials in that option. Another thing: you said that too many option sets can bloat the project file size, so I guess that maybe you just keep that one option set around and use it as a kind of closet for things you need but don't want to show.

    If you accept an option and delete the associate views, they will be removed form sheets. This applies to deleting view regardless of design options. You would be left with a blank sheet if you delete the views. If you do not, then you are left with the views as is but with the views now showing the accepted primary option instead. You are correct on the bloating model. Keeping in mind that every option is another copy of all the elements will give you an idea how much you really have in a model. It is not just what you see but a summation in a way of all the elements in all the design options that make the model.

    thanks for the video... Question: Can you document several design options within the same project? My understanding is you can only document the design option set to main/primary model. Thanks!

  • @ArchitectureVanguard

    @ArchitectureVanguard

    You can have as many design options as you want. Just know that the there will only be one of the options within a set that will appear and be a part of the main model. I apologize if I misunderstood your question.

    Hey Great Video, Is helped me understand Design options better, but like you showed every time that I accept my primary it deletes the secondaries, does this means I need to make a copy of the floor plan with the option from the beginning or it can be at the end? also does the copy of the plan where the options take place has to be a normal copy or it has to be a detailed copy or copy as adependant? Kind Regards.

  • @ArchitectureVanguard

    does not matter how you copy it to your main model if you do want to copy it. Depends on if you want the 3D elements or not. The idea of design options are that you actually do want to delete those items in options that are not accepted. You can choose to keep the options or just copy them somewhere else instead of delete them by accepting the design option. It is up to you.

    at 16:59, your view list gets longer, and includes level 1 -A and Level 1 -B, but you do not explain why you did those or how you set those up . At around 24:00, you start talking about remembering the setup of option 1A and B, but that was not in the video. But at 26:15ish, you show how to make the BLANK option. Just commenting to let you know but also for anyone in the future who watches the video and wonders about this! I saw part of it when the video was released and finishing it now due to a project that will require design options, I think you covered everything I needed to know but the one thing that to me was not too clear is what happens when you want to delete or hide stuff between options? I think it will probably all make sense when I start experimenting with how these work. As usual , thanks for the great video!

  • @ArchitectureVanguard

    @ArchitectureVanguard

    The view list getting longer was just me duplicating the view and renaming them so I could have a different result for each view showing a different design option. That could have been an editing issue on my end but I did just duplicate them and apply different design options to each view. Me showing the duplicate view for the blank option was the exact same thing I did for the other options, I must have just edited it out. If you are looking to hide elements between options, the only thing to know is that everything in design options is its own instance if that makes sense. If you for some reason have the exact same elements in 2 different design options, hiding, deleting or doing anything to an element in one option will have no impact on the other option. Everything will be shown in design options by default but those options will inherit the view settings you have applied to the view you are looking at. Hope that all makes sense.

  • @ArchitectureVanguard

    You are able to control which design options are on in the visibility graphics of the model link you want to control. You will see a design options tab in the link.

    Hey anyone kwon why does the room scheme colours change some of the colour of the rooms within the design options? it not really affecting me as the design options it is turning back the colours back to normal when I select the one that I want back to normal. just wondering.

  • @ArchitectureVanguard

    @ArchitectureVanguard

    3 жыл бұрын

    There is no way to do that. unfortunately. You can have multiple views open with options shown in each. The best way to do this may be to copy everything in one option and place it in another option set. You can have different option in different option sets shown at the same time.
