I've had several AirTemp heat pump package units with an issue in the heat mode. The unit turns on, then after a min it shuts off with no code on the circuit board. In this video I show how I fix this common problem. Hope you enjoy the video, LET'S DO SOME WORK!!

Thank you for the great video I had this same problem 2weeks ago and it was the Contactor also replaced it just like you did everything went back to normal working at 100% once again thank you for the great video keep them coming stay safe out there
Very helpful, I don't know about the problems with the 24v circuit and the relays. I always look forward to your videos, thank you.
Had a York Predator Heat Pump RTU kick my butt one time via a contactor coil. Every time the simplicity board would send a 24V signal for the 2nd stage compressor it would completely blank out the board and go into a power recycle start up delay. Had several others say they've encountered similar issues with York Units & contactor coils. But good informative video!
Thanks for the tip man. Always the best content from this channel. 👌🏻
Thank you for your video I had no heat last night it dropped to 29 degrees. When ohming out the coil I found a broken wire. Repaired and we were good. Thank you
For what they are worth,i would replace all 3 a lot less than a call back,thanks for the info.
Crazy thing I had happen while at a heat PM at the start of the heating season. Trane heat pump and air handler, about 5 years old, I tested the auxiliary heat first then the heat pump via the installer test settings on a visionpro 8000. Then I tested both together and the contactor in the heat kit fried the coil out of nowhere. Thankfully the customer understood that nothing I did caused that to happen and it was a crazy fluke
Excellent content sir! Love troubleshooting!
Great job! Thanks for the info. Keep up the great work!
Good find. But, gotta ask why do they use two contactors for 8kW?
@jammin345
2 жыл бұрын
Good question. Contactor with black wires supplies 120v to one side of two heaters. Contactor with red wires supplies 120v other side of heaters to total 240v, and runs through hi limit switches.

Them contactors probably are 30 amps so 8 kw is to much for one
Nice diagnosis and fix! Thanks!
Thanks for the great info may help for future calls
Thanks for the tip I’ll be looking out, good job 👍
Thank you sir for sharing this knowledge. Very interesting.
Great tip Zack knowledge is important 👌
Great information and repair! 👍
Been installing Rheems for over 10 years. Over the past 2 years they have been having massive issues with their contactors as well.
Great information and video young man. I'm no longer in the field service business but appreciate the knowledge the young generation of techs are sharing. I am a stationary engineer at a LARGE data center working on CRAH, CRAC unit's and chillers/cooling towers. Same principle but much larger scale equipment. I enjoy your videos and even though I've been in the HVAC industry for 42 years, it's a joy to learn something new. Keep up the great work. 👍🏾
Might as well swap the evap while your at it It’s an airtemp 😁
Good job Zack.
Good tip. Thanks for the video.
Easy to understand. Thank you.
Great video! So I see you have a topper on your truck now. Can you do a video on your truck setup sometime? I always like to how other people have there trucks setup. Thanks man
Great job😊 Could it be that the surface for the relays placed near the heaters get warm? Added heat to coils is not a great condition if picked up from the assembly. The right sided one catch more heat? Seldom seen coil failures on relays over my years on equipments. May be change them to some better working ones? Later years I have been found of solid state types relays since they has been nice to me😬
greetings bro faithful follower of yours from your beginnings greetings from 🇪🇨
Great Job Nicely Done 😉👍🏽
Very common in Trane/American Standard package heat pumps also.
Love the new black out trailer 👍
The ECM blower motors on these systems are notorious for failing
I see a new cap on the truck… need to post a video of the new set up
Good info. Thanks
Thanks for the tip.👍👍👍
Great job
Fixed several straight cool units with the same issue. The ones I did blew the fuse.
Good information
Thanks Boss Good Video
Hey bud you did a video that is called I can’t believe this happened it was a package unit on the ground and you were replacing a blower motor and the housing was a plastic housing and you were using a hand held pump sprayer and you poured some viper cleaner in it.great video by the way if you don’t mind me asking where did you purchase that hand held pump sprayer it had a black and blue top on it ?.
Have you seen this in regular split systems as well or just package units with electric heat?
Zack have you use any flareseal in refrigeration HVAC ductless Schrader valve or mini split.
Change both contractors and do not pull wires from them. Use a long nose pliers to pull wires loose.This will save a repeat call.

Why does everyone want to change both contactors when one tested good? Doesn’t this seem a little bit like wasting the customers money? And why do we need to use long nose pliers to pull wires loose? Please explain….
@douglaskahane141
2 жыл бұрын
@@89dhvac because both contractors are the same part number. Also, by pulling on the wires there is the chance of the wires coming out of the spade terminals. When the other contractor fails the client will have the same problem. Eliminate a call back and save the client time and money. A contractor does not cost that much.
Main Power breaker box looked a little rough,( rusty) is that for ac and everything in the house? normally most inside out the weather , ? but ha good job getting it going /
Ever get the feeling China is doing this to us on purpose? Contactors have been around for decades and there's never been this high of a failure rate that we're seeing right now in the industry. Most of it seems to be with the contactors on the heat kits. Trane has had major issues. Rheem has been affected and now Airtemp. Carrier was having a lot of problems with their contactors on the outdoor units. China is out to get us...one cheap part at a time. 😎👍

Hey man. Do those run off of just this system or do they also come with the coil and the tank inside. We have one smiling but a little older and noticed we don't have the tank or e coil where I thought it would be
Wow 1st 👍🏻 love the videos. As always great work.
I have been having issues with contractor on Airtemp equipment in general
Keeps us busy🙂
Every package heat pump air temp I've had problems with is the back left low fitting to condenser coil ruptures . Same place everytime. I'll never sell their products.
Package units on the side of a house are hilarious to me.
Does this apply on air temp heat pump systems with electric furnace in its Mobil homes
Sometimes the voltage tap should be changed too?
Can’t say iv ever seen a residential Packaged unit in Australia. Are they common in the US? Nice video as always 👍🏻
@OGHVAC

@Mitch Attwood, package unit's either heatpump or gaspaks are very common in the USA. Depends on the brick and mortar build of the home or commercial structure. Some have natural gas piped to them, some do not. In my 42 year's being in the HVAC trade in America, I've seen hundreds of package unit's.
@maracservices

@@OGHVAC thanks mate. I watch so many HVAC vids from the USA and was genuinely surprised how many Air Conditioner / Gas Furnaces there are over there as opposed to just a reverse cycle Air Conditioner. Very interesting watching how other countries do things . 👍🏻 thanks
what kind of tool bag do you use.
Would this cause it to not reach the set temp on the thermost mine never gets to the set degree
do you know the difference between heater coil and heat pump? please let us know
I live in DFW, Texas. Residential package units are very uncommon in this area. Why are package units so common in Nashville?
If you get Error 02 and SC. On heat and cool, could the contactor of the heater pack can cause the issues. Error 02 keep tripping after reseting the control board. Won't let the unit call for cool or heat.
@dyershvac5884
9 ай бұрын
I have ran into this on literally 6 or 7 units. An Error code 02 will show and the SC as well. Definitely a shortage somewhere. These units are notorious for this issue
8K electric heat strip as a secondary heat added. isn't that too much heat or that the HP is not very effective?
@jammin345
2 жыл бұрын
8kw heating strips supplies 27K btus which matches the heat pump heating capacity. The heating strips not only provide supplemental heat, but it also acts as back up if the heat pump (compressor) were to fail.
My Powermate 3400W generator won't turn on my NEW gas furnace! It did run the old oil furnace. When utility power to house came back on, the furnace started. The generator sockets have 3rd ground hole The ground is already connected to neutral side. The power out at end of 3 prong extension cord was 60cycle AC 117volts. What's wrong? The male plug has poor ground. The socket on furnace has loose connection for plug. Is the new gas furnace in lockout mode? Service sheet says no power.Does the new Airtemp gas furnace have a timed off period before allowing main circuit board to turn on? No response from contractor. He has the plague.
Why are you checking g and commen. Check r and c.for system low voltage.
Update on The Trailer !!!! Thing looks nasty
👍
When you sell and install low end equipment you get low end results!

The best way to repair Air Temp systems. steps: 1) Uninstall the Air Temp hvac system. 2) Haul the uninstalled Air Temp system to the local dump. 3) Install another brand of hvac system (ie Carrier, Trane etc); anything other than a piece of sh*t Air Temp hvac system.
The coil is getting hot and melting the shellac on the coil windings, causing the windings to short out. Bad design.
Please stop wiggling those crimp connectors to remove them! Use a pair of needle nose to remove them. You can damage the wiring in the crimp by wiggling them.
Why do need such a high resistance? Shouldn’t it be low resistance? New tech trying to comprehend the ohm side of things ?
Airtemp got a manufacturing problem with the quality of their switchgear. Why does new American tech look like it was designed in the 80s? Definitely no fujitsu or daikin tech in there.
just as bad as the POS capacitors and copper there selling us nowadays
Cheap cheap cheeeeeeap contactors.
AirTemp is total garbage. Too bad the crap Trane replaced it with is also garbage! Come on Trane, you need to at least try to make something decent quality like Champion in the economy line.
Nortek global bought them out. Their units are all cheap parts and all seem to have major issues with them down here in florida.
