Jupp. I like wearing belts and the quality of most is dismal. You have to pay a serious amount of money for a belt, that will survive even a year of regular wear. And not that I mind paying for quality...but considering the small amount of material and hardware needed and how easy belts are to manufacture, belts are really overpriced compared to other articles of clothing/accessories. I often make fabric belts for outfits for that reason and am considering getting into leatherwork, even.

@@raraavis7782 you absolutely should get into leatherwork, it's super easy to get into and do decent quality stuff, the tools are relatively inexpensive and it's the leathers (and any fancy hardware) that can cost you as much as you want based on what quality you get, and if you sink the many many hours of training and studying necessary to get great at it then you can create pretty breathtaking projects.

@@ingridakerblom7577 One thing I'd like is the stiffened fabric belts don't last. Plus the center point in front curls up on leather and cloth belts. This might bite, but it would last awhile. As you said, the corset will stop it digging in so much. These Belts made a brief come back inthe late 1980's 1990's along with conchos, ovals, corded belts.

I got something similar as a gift from family stationed to Afghanistan years and years ago. They found it at a market and thought it fit my style and appreciation of dance, not realizing it was a real vintage custom dance piece and probably worth far more than they paid even though it was missing a few stones. Yes, it has semiprecious stones inlaid into each plate piece and not cheap ones either! They didn't realize that though; it was just "something pretty" and coordinated with a bracelet to be an extra special gift.

We have the same blets that we wear in Morocco with takchita and catans we call them " mdama" . They usually come in gold and they're worn for special occasions such as weddings

I purchased one just like that one in Mexico. Pure silver and sometimes I have used it like a bracelet. It’s a wonderful piece in my wardrobe.

Thank you for this video. Sansa is ny favorite. As a kid, I loved and still love embroidery, sewing, and stereotypical feminine hobbies. I was always embarrassed by it and felt like I had ro hide it.

This is similar to what is known as a nurse's belt. You can find them in sterling silver. A beautiful period piece indeed!

i love the style of the north american covers because they take themselves seriously while also conveying a fantastical element. i feel like the covers which use a photo might imply to the reader that they're supposed to believe that actual cats are supposed to be doing all the things in the books which isn't really the case. i think the original north american covers are soo successful it's kind of amazing to see them side by side with less successful covers (as well as covers which totally understood the assignment like japan, korea, taiwan, and some of the german ones).

For those who are wondering: Yes, these types of belts are still being made, for example in Morocco they are still being made :)

Having the box is extra special and adds value to the piece. As does the screwdriver. Keep it safe. That is special.

Not sure why this popped up on my page, but after seeing the old belt and you still have the box was awesome. I love collecting old advertising and all the wacky ways the used to promote things 😂
